Dear TIMA Families,

Welcome back to the 2024-2025 school year at Tybee Island Maritime Academy! We hope you had a wonderful summer and are as excited as we are to embark on another fantastic year of learning and growth.

Once, I was encouraged by some community members to give a TED Talk at a local TEDx event. There was a brainstorming meeting with the organizers, and I remember clearly the instructions before we started to draft a submission.

“If you had five minutes to change the world, what would you say?”

It was a disarming and resonant requirement. With pen to paper, I made some notes and then followed up with a formal pitch. They liked it and invited me to the stage. In the spring of 2016, I proclaimed to the world a simple solution to everyone’s benefit. We must love teachers. In hindsight, perhaps the audience was too small. Maybe I didn’t make the right connections or deep connections to all industries. Maybe my logic was faulty, or word-choice ill advised. It’s been almost 10 years, and it has not had the universal impact I had imagined. So, stay tuned; I am revisiting those ideas again this year, because the importance of creating supportive and loving environments for teachers to foster educational excellence and support each other is necessary for all of us to thrive. Nevertheless, I am grateful to serve in a community that openly believes what I believe and I am sincerely appreciative for all you do to support teachers at TIMA as we return and beyond.

As we prepare for the new school year, I want to inform you of an important change regarding parking. Even though we are enjoying a continuingly positive relationship with St. Michael's, the parking lots at St. Michael's near their thrift store and their main parking lot will not be available for our use this year. To ensure a smooth and safe dismissal process, we encourage you to parallel park along Butler Avenue if you walk up with your children before school starts or at dismissal. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we make these adjustments. Your support helps us create a safe and efficient environment for all our students and families.

Once again, welcome back! This edition of our Newsletter is chock full of important information and calendar items. Thank you for being a valued part of our TIMA family. The City of Tybee is seeking feedback from its community—residents, employees, and visitors—regarding the types of services you would like to see offered on the Island. This survey could influence the potential for a shared community space, including much-needed educational facilities for our school. Your input is invaluable in helping shape the future of our community and TIMA's home island.

At this time, there is a waitlist for 24-25 Transportation. If you would like to be added to the waitlist, please reach out to Mrs. Jennifer at jennifer.fleming@sccpss.com to be added to the waitlist.

Morning Drop-Off begins at 8:00am. Students can pick up breakfast and go to class. The first bell is at 8:30am. Students arriving after 8:30am must be signed in at the Front Office and walked to class and will not receive breakfast.

Afternoon Dismissal begins promptly at 3:30pm.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO LEAVE DRIVEWAYS OPEN AND ACCESSIBLE AT ALL TIMES DURING DROP OFF AND PICK UP.

Parents of students Grades K-4 choosing to walk up to pick up your child, will be required to join the designated Walk-Up Line in front of the Annex Building so that TIMA staff can verify the pick up of your child through Pikmykid. Parents should announce in the Pikmykid App when they arrive and students will be dismissed individually.

We ask for everyone's patience in the car rider line the first week of school as everyone familiarizes themselves with our routines and procedures!

TIMA will continue using the Pikmykid Dismissal App for the 24-25 school year! Parents will receive more information regarding verifying your child's dismissal info in next week's newsletter.

All TIMA students will be provided a Breakfast at no cost for the 2024-2025 school year. We urge all TIMA families to complete and submit a Free and Reduced Meal Application online

TIMA requires that all families purchase iPad insurance for each student iPad. After you purchase insurance, you will receive a confirmation email to finish setting up your account. Please note that information regarding your child's iPad model and serial number will be updated by the school.

While we do not use SCCPSS’s website, we do utilize PowerSchool for state reporting purposes. All TIMA Families will now need a Parent Access account to view grades, attendance and report cards. TIMA will no longer issue school-wide paper report cards. This is also an opportunity to verify that your contact information is correct and up to date in an effort to insure that you are receiving all important communications coming from TIMA. As the bulk of our school communication is done via email, please be sure to update and include current email addresses.

Please note that any changes made to home addresses will have to be verified with proof of that address.

Join us for some social time and to learn more about different aspects of TIMA. We will be covering different topics each month. Topics will be announced a week prior to the scheduled date.

We love seeing volunteers on campus! Volunteers must first be cleared through the VISTA background check process. Please complete the simple registration and application process . The system also enables us to track volunteer hours. Tracking volunteers is important to TIMA's grant initiatives. Please help us by ensuring you are tracking your volunteer hours

TIMA offers athletics for students in grades 6,7&8. All students wishing to participate in evaluations, practices and games MUST have a current physical on file with Athletic Director, Noel Ingram. Students must also meet the athletic eligibility requirements to participate. Physical packets and eligibility guidelines can be found in the folder linked below.
