I would like to warmly and excitedly welcome all of our new students and families to West Riverside Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year! Our school theme for the school year is:

"Let's root for each other and watch each other grow!"

This theme was chosen by our faculty and staff because we want to ensure all students at West Riverside Elementary are rooted with foundational academic skills in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies. We have a sincere desire to provide students with a strong community balanced with nurturing, guidance, creativity, and challenge to foster growth in our students academically and socially.

I will provide families with newsletters including important information and school updates throughout the school year. I encourage you to use our newsletters to stay engaged in the school environment. When our students see their parents involved in the school, they are motivated and accomplish amazing things!

I’m happy to share that online application and registration will begin on July 15th at 8 a.m.

Extended Day services are offered to families during the following times:

7:00-8:00 AM ($75 Monthly)

3:00-6:00 PM ($135 Monthly)

*Prices are subject to change.

I encourage families to register for Extended Day as soon as possible once the registration opens as we often have waitlists for the program.

Looking for ways to give back to your child's school??? If so, we invite you to attend our Summer Parent Volunteer Day on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 9:00-11:00 am. During this time, we need volunteers to assist with the following tasks:

• Assemble Student 1st Day of School Packets with Flyers and Important Documents
• Hang up decorations in the hallway
• Deliver student workbooks to classrooms
• Deliver computer carts to classrooms
• Write Welcome Back Cards to Teachers and Staff
• Organize clothing and supplies for the school clinic
• Label Cafeteria Tables with Homeroom Class Names
• Add backdrop paper and boarder to select hallway bulletin boards

High School Students and West Riverside Alumni may also attend this event to receive community service hours.

Volunteers are a vital part of student success at West Riverside Elementary.

To ensure the safety of our students, volunteers who will be at the school more than once, must complete an application and undergo a volunteer screening, free of charge. We ask that parents take the time out this summer to complete the DCPS volunteer screening if you plan to attend any field trips with your students or volunteer at our school. Anyone, including parents, who will visit the campus more than once to help must complete the process.
