Monday marks the beginning of Semester Two. Students should refer to PowerSchool to see potential changes to their schedule for any half-year courses.
Scheduling for next school year has begun! If your child is interested in Early College, please be aware that they must have their college acceptance by May 2nd, 2025. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions.

🎓 The Governor's Institute
Applications for the Governor's Institute of Vermont summer programs is currently open to grades 9 through 11 (the application process closes on March 31st). The art program will be hosted at Castleton this summer! Tuition is on a sliding scale (could be as little as $10).

We are also hosting events for high schools during the school day at college campuses around the state. Talk to your school to find out if they will be attending one of these events and how to register your student.

Cognia Testing Information Event
Come learn more about the VTCAP/Cognia testing 9th (ELA & Math) and 11th (Science) grade students will be taking in the Spring. This presentation will give great background information and let you experience the test from your child's point-of-view.

This Spring, students will have the option to take the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). This anonymous survey measures health related issues in order to help our state and local schools best understand how to support our kids. There will be an opt-out letter coming home, in the mail, with upcoming report cards. Please feel free to look over the information below to learn more:

VTeen Science Pathways Cafés, Jan 11, Feb 15- full, March 22, April 12 & May 10
Join us for monthly hands-on science workshops by UVM faculty, graduate students and other STEM professionals. These are excellent opportunities to learn about a breadth of careers and current research in a variety of STEM fields. Workshops are for teens age 13+. Cafés take place on UVM campus on Saturdays from 5:00-7:00 pm and pizza and soft drinks provided. Upcoming topics include:

Feb 15 Finding Patient Zero: Tracking Disease Outbreaks

Discover Engineering Day, February 22, 9:30-2:30, 2025
Discover Engineering is a day of hands-on learning and exploration for youth in 5th-12th grades to learn about engineering, build skills, and network with college students, professors, and professionals in the field. Organized by UVM’s College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) and UVM Extension 4-H, the day includes an Engineering Scavenger Hunt (interactive exhibits showcasing various types of engineering and career pathways), and an afternoon of learning through hands-on workshops. VSAC's Annual Financial Aid Trainings for Education and Agency Professionals
Register today for this year's Financial Aid Updates sessions to learn about the many changes and new norms for the 2024-25 financial aid cycle. Both events will take place via Zoom starting at 9:00am.

College & Career Pathways High School Events
College and career readiness workshops targeted to 10th and 11th graders (and open to 9th and 12th graders). All high schools in the state of Vermont are invited to bring students. Registration opens in early December, and some locations reach capacity quickly!

- Landmark College: Thursday, March 13, 9:15am-1:45pm
- Saint Michael’s College: Thursday, March 20, 9:15am-1:45pm
- VTSU-Lyndon: Monday, April 7, 9am-1:30pm in partnership with the NEK College Fair
- VTSU-Castleton: Wednesday, April 9, 9am-1:45pm in partnership with the Rutland Area Guidance Counselors’ College Fair
Tentatively Saturday, March 8, 2025, 1pm-5pm @ UVM Davis Center and online via Zoom
9th-12th grade families are invited to participate in post-secondary planning workshops. All sessions will be offered in person, as well as live streamed and recorded. More information and link to register will be available in January 2025 by visiting vsac.org/ccp.

End of Semester One - January 24th
We are almost half-way through the school year! Please make sure to connect with your child's teachers if you have any questions about their progress. Grades will be finalized on January 29th and report cards sent by February 3rd.
Principal's List and Student of the Marking Period Assembly - February 7th
February 14th is more than just Valentine's Day at FHUMHS! We will be celebrating the amazing academic achievements of our high school students!
Winter Carnival Dance - February 8th
Our annual Winter Carnival Semi-Formal Dance will start at 7 pm on February 8th. This dance marks the beginning of our Winter Carnival, which runs from February 10th to the 14th.
February Break - February 17th - 21st
Friday, February 14th will be a half-day where students celebrate the annual Winter Carnival Day! After that, students will be on their Winter Break throughout the following week.
