LEARNING HIGHLIGHTS
The annual Multi-Lingual Learner Dinner was held this past Tuesday (6/4) at Westfield High School. We celebrated a year of growth, learning, and community. Attendees enjoyed delicious food, great company, and cultural performances which highlighted the diverse languages and backgrounds represented within the Westfield Public Schools.
Pre-K students continued the unit of study on gardening. They explored the question "Who helps gardens grow?" by identifying gardening tools and discussing the roles of farmers, insects, and gardeners. Students read books like "The Very Lonely Firefly" and "The Grouchy Ladybug" by Eric Carle, and enjoyed garden-themed songs. In Math, they created shapes, extended patterns, and sorted insects by whether or not they had wings. They also explored the concept of symmetry by studying butterflies and creating symmetrical butterfly crafts.
In Kindergarten this week students are continuing to read and write short sentences and are learning distinguishing characteristics of storybooks and informational books. In Readers’ Workshop, they are identifying and discussing non-fiction topics they find interesting with partners. In Math, they are comparing backpacks using terms like height, width, and area, exploring their capacity and weight, and practicing addition. In Social Studies, students are following an octopus's day, learning about different cultures, and enjoying music from around the world. In Science, they are observing the sun's path in different seasons and understanding how sunlight warms the Earth.
We hope everyone enjoyed today's Kindergarten Celebrations. We are so proud of our Kindergarten students and the all the growth they have demonstrated!

End of Year Carnival, 6/12
The End of Year Carnival will take place on Wednesday, June 12.

As always, parent volunteers help to make these events run more smoothly. Please consider signing up to volunteer.
JOIN THE PTO EXECUTIVE BOARD IN 2024-25
A Message from the Lincoln School PTO:
The PTO is a fun and rewarding way to be a vibrant part of our Lincoln family. No experience required! This is a great opportunity to get involved, to help make a great year for your Lincoln student, and to meet other parents!
We are gathering interest now for roles on the Lincoln PTO Executive Board for next year. The board meets once a month, either virtually or in person. Much of the work is done independently between meetings, and the time commitment required ebbs and flows through the year.
Committees and Class Parent volunteer sign-ups will be separately sent in the fall and are other opportunities to get involved.
