GREEN MEADOW BUILDING PROJECT
GREEN MEADOW BUILDING PROJECT -- VOTING DAY IS NOVEMBER 7
Good News for the Project: On Wednesday, October 25th, the MSBA Board of Directors voted to increase the construction funding limits on the Green Meadow Elementary School project and others that achieved Project, Scope and Budget Agreement in the same timeframe we did, on eligible construction costs from $432/SF to $568/SF. This increases the maximum MSBA grant, which needs to be confirmed in our Agreement, on the project by approximately $7M, so the MSBA share vs. Maynard share ratio changes from 35%-65% to 44%-56%.

WAVM
GENERAL INFORMATION
WAVM is our student-run radio and television station. Student radio shows are up and running for 2023-2024 -- tune in on 91.7 FM, or at wavm.org -- every school day from 2 PM - 9 PM.
Students in grades 6-12 who want to get involved are encouraged to stop by the station or come to a staff meeting, meet Mr. Valenti, Mrs. Newey, and the student CEO's, and sign up for a job! Even better, sign up to work at the 2023 Beacon Santa Telethon!
2023 TELETHON -- NOVEMBER 29 FINAL MANDATORY FAMILY MEETING
Our first Telethon meeting drew a huge crowd of volunteers. We are excited to put everyone to work. There will be a final mandatory meeting to finish up our WAVM Telethon planning on November 29. Each student who plans to work at the Beacon Santa Telethon must attend and must bring a parent or guardian to this meeting. The meeting will provide all the details of each job, and its expectations. Don't forget to block out the weekend of December 9-10 in your calendar now -- that will be Telethon Weekend!
Families and community members who want to support the Beacon Santa Telethon are encouraged to email anewey@maynard.k12.ma.us. We need volunteers, auction items, sponsers, and more! Everyone in Maynard and the surrounding towns is welcome to help us support local families in need.
GERMAN EXCHANGE STUDENTS VISIT MHS
MHS has just completed its first German American Partnership Program (GAPP) exchange with our partner school, IGS, in Ingelheim, Germany. Twelve students and three teachers visited MHS for three weeks. They experienced "typical" American class schedules, broadcasting radio shows on WAVM, visiting Boston and Salem, watching MHS sports, and even fully participating in an MHS pep rally. MHS host families went above and beyond in showing their visiting students the area, with individual trips to Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, or Rhode Island, Broadway shows, apple picking, and more. This was the second part of our exchange, as MHS sent a contingency of 12 students and 2 teachers to stay with host families of IGS Ingelheim in June. We look forward to continuing this partnership!
STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council has announced the dates for our November Spirit Week: November 15th-21st. Themes will be announced shortly. Festivities and competitions will include a class wall competition, class poem, and a lip sync competition that includes the teachers!
THE MAYNARD MUSIC ASSOCIATION
The mission of the Maynard Music Association (MMA) is to promote, support, and advocate for exceptional music education for all Maynard High School and Fowler Middle School students.
MAYNARD SEPAC
The mission of the Maynard Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is to work for the understanding of, respect for, and support of all children with special needs in the community.
Maynard SEPAC works in collaboration with MPS community members to:

· Advise the school district on special education programs, training needs, and policy
· Promote communication between PAC members; local, state and national organizations, councils and groups
· Promote understanding, acceptance, and inclusion within the community
· Provide informational forums for parents, students, educators, and professionals
Joining is easy - any community member who attends a SEPAC meeting or event during the year is considered a voting member. There are many ways to contribute and we will work with you to identify something that works with your schedule and responsibilities.

MAYNARD HIGH SCHOOL FOOD PANTRY
A FOOD RESOURCE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
In addition to all students getting free breakfast and lunch at school this year, Maynard High School offers a food pantry for any student who needs it. The pantry is located in the nurse’s office. This can be accessed by a student asking the nurse or their school counselor. Students may also take enough food and supplies for their families, if needed. If your student wants access to the pantry, please complete this Google Form.
FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATIONS
Although all students can get one free breakfast and one free lunch at school, we still encourage any family who may qualify for free or reduced lunch to fill out the free/reduced lunch application. Qualifying for free/reduced lunch can also qualify students for:
- Fee waivers for college applications
- Standardized testing (SAT and/or) ACT fee waivers
- Fee waivers for the bus
- Fee waivers for the athletics/student activities fee

COMMUNITY RESOURCES
As we head towards the end of the year and "holiday season," stress increases for many of us. We know our teens are stressed and we know the importance of self-care for them. But parents and caregivers, are you caring for yourselves? It's important that you take the time to care for yourself, both to ensure you're not giving from an empty cup, but also to model self-care for our teens. And we don't need to wait until things get even more hectic than they are to start. Here are some tips to think about now: https://parentandteen.com/parents-who-care-for-themselves-prepare-teens-to-thrive/
