Emotions Matter
by Kevin Kern
Emotions, I have them, you have them, we all have them, but do you actually know what emotions are and how they happen, and what strategies you can use to help yourself become aware of them. Well there are many ways to help regulate and make yourself aware of your emotions. As a member of our school's Student Council I’ve had the opportunity to prototype and work on a “Mood Meter.” The Mood Meter is an easy and effective way to regulate and be aware of your emotions. It is best used during the beginning of the school day because it gives you a perspective of how you are and what you can do to get to another emotion, or keep the emotion throughout the day. Though best at the beginning of the day it can be used at the end of the day or whenever you want to check in with your emotions. The Mood Meter also has a video linked with it that is done by a fellow member of Student Council, the video gives you questions to take into consideration, to help you give yourself an idea why you are feeling the way you are. As well that video you have other videos remade by us, Student Council, these videos are of techniques that can be used to help regulate and understand emotions. The videos are remade to be more understandable and easier to relate with. Overall, the Mood Meter is an effective tool that you can use to help check in with yourself and your emotions.
A Glimpse Into the Mood Meter Around Berner Middle School
7th Grade
Ms. Waterman’s 7th grade English Language Arts classes utilized the mood meter to connect to “Zebra” by Chaim Potok. Yale University’s RULER is an acronym for the five skills of emotional intelligence (recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing, and regulating) is the evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning created through Yale University. In this short story the protagonist Zebra gets into an accident that results in him being impacted both mentally and physically. Students had meaningful discussions about the question: If Zebra were to use the MOOD METER, which emotion do you think he would pick at this point in the story and why? This juxtaposed the end of the story where they discussed their analysis on: If Zebra were to use the MOOD METER, which emotion do you think he would pick at the END of the story and why? Students thought critically about Zebra’s emotions and how they change as a result of the conflicts and resolution throughout the course of the story. In addition, they reflected on how their own life experiences contribute to themselves on the mood meter.8th Grade
Fun Things To Do With Friends Over Spring Break
by Jackson Crudele
Introduction
Spring break is a great time to hang out with friends because on a good day the weather is absolutely perfect. It’s not too hot or cold and it’s sunny which is as good as it gets in terms of weather. Personally, Spring break is one of my favorite times of the year because there’s so much to do whether it’s doing things with family or friends. If you don’t know what you’re gonna do for Spring Break here are some ideas on what to do.
Going on Vacation
One of the most popular things to do during Spring Break is probably going on a vacation with family or friends. It’s so much fun going on vacation because it's usually either very relaxing or a ton of fun and sometimes it can even be both. In addition to this there are so many places to go with places like the Bahamas, Cancun, Florida, and Jamaica are some of the popular places to go but there are so many other places to go with so many different environments. When going on vacation it doesn’t really matter where you go as long as it’s somewhere that you, your family, and/or friends enjoy.
Going to The Movies
Unfortunately, there are still some days during Spring Break that are not nice out at all and are rainy which limits the things you can do. Thankfully there are things like movie theaters that save the day. Going to the movies with your family or friends is so much fun. There are always so many different movies to see and just spending time with your friends is always so nice. Also there is nothing like popcorn, candy, and drinks at the movie theaters, I don’t know if it’s just me but those things always taste different at the movies than at home. Overall during those rainy days personally I think one of the best things to do is to go to the movies with friends or family.
Going on Bike Rides
Now that the weather is starting to get a little better and a little warmer you can start going on bike rides more often. Going on bike rides is one of my favorite things to do over break, during the spring, and over the summer. There are so many places to go and so many things to do on your bike. Especially when I need to get out and get some fresh air. You can go get lunch on your bike, ride around the neighborhood, go to places like Burns Park and so many other places. I love riding my bike to the deli with my friends or just going around the neighborhood or other places that are nearby. This is just a great thing to do when you want to get out and enjoy the nice weather. No matter what you end up doing it’s such a fun thing to do with your friends or family and can really go anywhere you want to ride to.
Exercising
Another thing you can do during Spring Break is exercise. With the weather starting to get a little better it makes the perfect weather to start exercising outside. On the nice days during Spring Break it is sunny and cool which in my opinion is the best weather. Also, there are so many different things to do. For example, you can go on a run around your neighborhood, you can go on walks around the block, and you can also go to different parks or fields if you want to start getting ready for another sport that is coming up soon. Even if you aren’t a huge fan of sports or working out you can even try doing yoga outside when it’s nice out. Exercising or doing things like Yoga outside or even inside is a great thing to do if you start to get bored or just wanna get outside.
Conclusion
Overall, Spring Break is so much fun and there’s so much you can do. You can go on vacation, go to the movies, go on bike rides, and exercise. In addition to those things there are so many things to do as long as it’s something you enjoy doing you can really do whatever you want. I hope this article helped give you an idea on what you want to do over Spring Break this year.

Greenport
Greenport is a very fun and nice place to go with family and friends during Spring Break! There are sunflower fields where you can admire all of the flowers and take beautiful pictures. There are also very good restaurants to make time to visit. Greenport is near the water so you can also make a visit to the beach!

Spring Holiday
by Mia Cespites
In the Spring there are so many fun things to do for holidays, and here I will list so many fun things to do for a bunch of spring holidays. You can do these things with your family, friends, or anyone!!! Also did you know that the top 5 most celebrated holidays are Thanksgiving with a popularity rate of 80%, Veterans Day and Mother’s Day with 76% and other national religious events are Memorial Day, Christmas, and Father’s Day? (All this info was found by Statista.com.)
Some fun things you can do for St. Patrick's Day is making a leprechaun trap. A really fun, decorative, and easy way to set up a leprechaun trap is to take about a cardboard box and cut the top off. Then you could paint it green. Once the paint dries then you can either glue or tape on fake gold coins, gold and green bead necklaces and anything else you think you could add onto the box for a leprechaun! Once that is done you can take the part you cut off or a new box for the base of the trap, make sure it is a little bigger than the box. Then put a bunch of duct tape loops and stick them to the base. Lastly, you can get a mini black witches pot and fill it with gold coins and everything gold, and you are done!!! Have fun catching leprechauns! Some popular holidays celebrated in April are April Fools Day, Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, Passover, Earth Day and Jackie Robinson Day! And did you know that on April 15, 1912 the Titanic sank and on the same day in 2004 Jackie Robinson's MLB baseball number became retired and no one can use it.
The History of Spring Holidays
by Vincent Apap
Winter has officially ended on the 20th of March, that means that it is officially spring time!
Spring is home to a very popular holiday, Easter! Easter is on Sunday April 9th this year. The Greek Easter is April 16th. Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the full Moon that occurs on or after the Spring Equinox. The mascot for the holiday is the Easter bunny, the children's tale states that the Easter bunny comes to your house and plants Easter eggs all around your house with treats or money inside. Easter may be a fun holiday about looking for eggs and other traditions your family may do. But do you know the real backstory behind Easter? There are 2 backstories behind Easter. In the religion of Christianity, it is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The other backstory is it is a celebration of the spring equinox. Easter is celebrated world wide. Around the time of spring there are also other holidays during the month. Passover is also a popular holiday during spring. Passover is celebrated by people and is the religion of Judaism. It commemorates the Biblical story of Exodus where God freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. On Passover they eat, pray and spend time with family. Passover is mainly celebrated in Israel and American people of the Judaism religion. Passover has been celebrated for over 3000 years. It's the oldest holiday celebrated in the Jewish calendar. This was the history of the Spring holidays.
Habits to Pick Up This Spring
by Sophia LaBella
Stay Organized
One way you can stay organized this spring is to keep a planner and an agenda. To stay organized you can also do a spring purge. To purge is to get rid of things that you don’t need to free up space for things you do need.
Study
If you have a test coming up and you’re procrastinating studying, don't worry. Studying isn’t always so bad to make it seem more fun, maybe study with a friend. You can also make your notes look neater and colorful and it might motivate you to study more.
Ride your bike more
One thing you could do more this spring is you could ride your bike more. During the spring the weather gets nicer and the sun stays out for longer. You could also invite your friends and go to Burns Park or Ralph's Ices.
If you have pets take them for a walk
Pets need exercise just as much as you do so you could take 10 minutes out of each day to take them for a walk. On your walk maybe you could go to the park or to your friends house.
Get all your homework done right away
This spring you could try out a new habit and try to get your homework done right after school. By doing this you could have more time to do fun things after your homework, and free up time by doing it right after school if you have sports or other things you want to do.
Take breaks
Another habit to maybe start this spring is taking a break. If school gets too stressful, maybe take a weekend to visit places that you haven’t been with your family or catch up on work.
Join a spring sport
This spring you should join a spring sport. Some of Berner's spring sports include: lacrosse, softball/baseball, track and field, and more. Joining a spring sport could be great because you make new friends. You also can have something to do in your free time. At Berner there is a study hall before after school sports to get your homework done before practice.
How to Keep Your Locker Organized
by Ashley Justino
Do you need a locker makeover? I did and it really helped me stay organized throughout the day. Maybe you are thinking that you don't but it is still good to think about.
First, I would start by color coding all of your binders and folders. (I would label everything so that nothing gets lost.) Make sure all of your papers have a home. You might want to put all of your folders in a binder. Try to clean out your folders daily so you don't have back problems later in life.
Now for the locker... Try not to throw loose papers in your locker in between classes. Say you did your homework perfectly, you need it the next day but you lose points because you don't have it. You should use your locker as much as you can so again you don't have back problems. If you have shelves, think about what you can do with them. Maybe you want a different spot for your folders, binders, etcetera. Are you the person who likes to fix their hair 24/7? Is a mini mirror the thing for you. Or maybe a mini white board for any notes that your friends will jot down while you are not looking. What about colorful magnets or a family picture?
There are so many options and you can have fun with them. Just make sure that you still have room for your school stuff. I am sure that your locker will be sparkling soon enough! I hope all your friends enjoy scribbling all over your white board like they did to mine. 😀
Studying Techniques
by Chloe Symington
You have the quarterly coming up and you still are having some trouble grasping that one, super important topic. You figure that studying might solve your problem, but you don’t know how to study. If you do, your current technique is starting to get old, and you want to find a new technique. Well, this article is the perfect place to find the studying technique that fits YOU!
Flashcards
There’s nothing quite like the good, old flashcards! All you need is index cards (any form of small paper works, but I just find that index cards work best), a Ziploc bag or rubber band, a writing tool, and maybe a study guide that you or your teacher wrote. The flashcard technique works best with vocabulary. On one side, write the word that you want to study. On the other one, write the definition, and maybe an example or two. To study, then read one side, then guess the word, or definition. If you are hanging out with your friends, or you're at home, ask a sibling, trusted adult, or friend to read you one side, and have you guess the other. With a Friend
Teamwork makes the dreamwork, especially when you are studying! You and your friend both have a test coming up, you can both take turns reading each other's notes! If you think that your friend is missing something on their notes, then feel free to add something. The same goes for your other friend. After that, read your notes, and see what your friend added. This ensures that you and your friend will have everything that you need for that class to study. Also, studying with someone just makes it 10x better.GimKit
Not only are GimKits fun, but they are also easy to make! The only thing is that they are just time consuming. So, I recommend that as you learn the topic, you add to the GimKit. In order to make a GimKit, you are first going to go into GimKit through Clever. Not GimKit Join! From there, you are going to click on “My Kits.” Then, click on “Create New,” and it’s pretty straight forward. Even better, you can play it with your friends!Notes
A good way to study is to watch a video on the topic that you’re learning, and pause every now and then in the video. During that pause, write down, in bullets, everything that you remember. Then, un-pause the video, and continue the process. Watch the video once, twice, or as many times that you're comfortable with! Some key points to remember are dates, names, accomplishments, and important places. Do not write down everything that you hear. Ask your teacher some important points that will be on the test or quiz, and focus on that. Stay on the topic that you are learning!Write n’ Guess
Write down everything you learned that you can remember from class, or write down as much as you can from a study guide. Then, after reading what you wrote down, flip the paper. From there, give yourself 5 minutes or less, depending on how much information you wrote, to write down everything that you remember from the study guide. Once the timer goes off, stop writing, and compare what you wrote to the study guide, or the previous information you wrote. Continue this process until you have most of the information on your notes compared to the study guide.Slideshow
The slideshow, like the other strategies that I named, is pretty straight forward. You just make a slideshow about the topic that you want to study. Make sure that you made the slideshow in the folder that is dedicated to the subject that you’re making the study guide on. For example, you make a science slideshow, put it in the science folder. If you like to be organized, make a folder within your subject folder that is titled “Study Guides”. I would start the slideshow off with a title slide, maybe stating the topic of the study guide, unit, and lesson. Don’t jazz up the slideshow too much, until you know that you're done. If you are like me, and cannot resist trying to make a slideshow look nice, then maybe change only one small thing about each slide, depending on how many you have. On each slide, assuming that you are reviewing vocabulary that you still have to learn, start off with the vocabulary word. From there, add a definition, example, and a picture or two. Once you finish your vocabulary slides, add any other slides of things that you think that you have to review a bit more. Then, it’s time to decorate. When decorating your slides, don’t do a crazy background, or a font that you can’t read.Write and Doodle
Writing and doodling you actually do probably a lot more than you may realize. Writing and doodling is taking notes, and letting yourself doodle every couple notes or so. Just remember, don’t focus too hard on the drawing. If you focus too hard on the drawing, you will most likely completely forget about note taking. Also, for once, why exactly am I telling you to doodle? Well, one day, scientists wondered, “What are the effects of doodling?” Well, that was answered. Scientists showed a bunch of people the same video, but in two rooms. One room was full of doodlers. The other room was full of non-doodlers. They both had to take notes on the video. Once the videos were finished, the people were both given the same test. The doodlers ended up doing much better than the non-doodlers. As it turns out, doodling can lead to stress relief, mindfulness, enhanced creativity, better concentration, and improved memory. Just, don’t get too carried away when doing it.Overall, there’s a lot of different ways to study. It’s just a matter of finding what’s best for you exactly. Thanks for reading!

Tips on How to Study for Different Classes
by Ashley Justino
Social Studies, Science, Spanish, (or any language you take) and English Language Arts
(First I am giving shout outs to Mrs. Kiley and Señor Medina) Social Studies, Science, English Language Arts and the language you take are similar in a way. Most of the time, the thing that you need to know most is vocabulary (or at least I do). I am the kind of person who likes to be comfortable while they study. I like to study on my bed with a lot of blankets and pillows. Before I take my trip to blanket heaven I like to take out any study guides or vocabulary papers I have and think that they will help me. One of my friends likes to rewrite her whole study guide (*cough Danielle *cough *cough). I suggest only writing down the things that you are having trouble with.
My Dad helped me study so maybe it will be helpful if you have a friend or family member to quiz you. If not, you can still do it on your own. I like to take out a piece of loose leaf paper so I can write down anything that I don´t know because it is a waste of time to write down things that you already know. If you think that flash cards will help you go ahead. Just make sure that you use your time wisely.
Math
My teacher (shout out to Mr. Cunha) usually will give me a review packet a week before a big test. Even if you think that you are better than Albert Einstein at math I would still do the packet. The review packet is so beneficial to preparing for the upcoming lessons, activities and assessments so take advantage of the preparation!
Art and FACS
(More shout outs to Mrs. Shehada and Mr. Coppola). You really can't study for these classes. I mean I am only in 6th grade but so far I have had any homework. These classes are mostly fun. For FACS you can practice cooking at home and for art buy a few shading sticks and good quality paper. It really depends on who you have as a teacher.
Tech and Heath
I really like my teachers for Tech and Health (Mr. O'Connor and Mrs. Meehan). They are both super nice. Just like Art and FACS you really can't study for these classes. Health you might have a vocabulary test or something.
I hope that these study tips will help you for your upcoming classes. I am sure that you will ace your next test!!
Spring Outfit Ideas
by Eleni Diakoumakis
Have you ever woken up one morning and thought, “What should I wear today?” Well, I have just the solution for you!! If you are having a girls night out with your besties, I recommend you wear something like this. I suggest you wear Lululemon(or any brand) leggings. For your top, it really depends on what color your leggings are. If they are black, wear any shirt you like! If they are, sonic pink for example, I recommend a white or pink shirt. To go with your base outfit, find a cute sweatshirt or hoodie. The Lululemon define jacket, and scuba hoodie are great to keep you warm! There are also some cheaper ideas, such as GOAT USA, Ron Jon Surf Shop, or any other brand!
Are you meeting someone special at a park? Or out for dinner? Girls, listen to me! On SHEIN.com, there are so many different dresses that you can choose from!! If you are feeling a bit revealing, get a cute spaghetti strap dress and add a small cardigan on top.
Are you wondering what would be appropriate for school? Well, here are some ideas. I always recommend sweatpants for school. They’re comfy, and chic! I love Aviator Nation sweats. They are a bit pricey though. Places like SHEIN, Target, and Kohl's have great deals for pants just as cute! With sweatpants, I recommend a Lululemon tech swifty t-shirt and then the define jacket on top of the t-shirt. Like I said before, it depends on what color your pants are when it comes to choosing a shirt color. For school, leggings are also great! Like I said earlier, Lululemon is great! You can also get leggings from places like Nike, Dicks Sporting Goods, Old Navy, and more! With leggings, I recommend a loose t-shirt with a hoodie on top.
I hope my outfit suggestions helped with your clothing dilemmas!
Best Restaurants on Long Island
by Sophia Hannon
Whether it's Italian food, Asian food, Greek food, American food, or Mexican food, you can't deny the restaurants in Long Island are amazing. This article will be talking about the best restaurants all around the island. Well, what are we waiting for? Let's start!
1. Brownstones
Brownstones is a wonderful brunch place located in Amityville. It has a rating of 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor. Some dishes from Brownstones I would suggest are: The BLT, it is smoked bacon with sliced ripe tomatoes, lettuce, sliced avocado, and chipotle mayo served with pasta salad or fries. Another thing I love are the French toast bites! They are just classic French toast in bite size form.
2. TOA Asian Fusion
TOA Asian Fusion is a great place if you want sushi! It is located in Farmingdale. Something I recommend is the baby back spare ribs. They have an amazing barbecue sauce on them with perfectly cooked meat. Another thing I recommend is the spicy tuna rolls. They are pretty spicy so if you don’t like spice please don’t have these! It comes with spicy mayo and has a crunch on top. This place is rated a 4 on trip advisor and is great if you want some Asian fusion.
3. All American
This place is a Long Island classic! It is located in Massapequa and it has the best American food. I recommend the burger and vanilla milkshake. It's great for late at night burgers or hot dogs! The line to get food is usually very long but it goes by fast. It is rated a 4.5 on Yelp.
4. Haunted House of Hamburgers
Speaking of hamburgers, this place is a spooky themed restaurant where it's Halloween all year long! It is located in Farmingdale and is rated a 4 stars on Tripadvisor. The Mac and Cheeseburger is to die for! It's basically just a burger with Mac and Cheese on top. If burgers aren’t your thing there is a delicious tomato soup which is made to perfection.
5. Nautilus Diner
The Nautilus Diner is located in Massapequa. It is rated 4.3 stars on Tripadvisor. I recommend the French onion soup! It is an onion soup with cheese on top and bread on the bottom. If you are a little bit older you can go to this place after school because it's right by Berner! This place has basically everything on its menu and is perfect for everyone!
Yoga and Mindfulness Club
by Chloe Symington
After a stressful day at school, an aching back after carrying your backpack around the whole day, and a cloudy mind from the long day that you just went through, what might make your mind, and body, feel better again? Well, the best answer is the Yoga and Mindfulness Club! The club itself is not a huge commitment, meaning that you will not be missing out on a huge project and you won’t have to worry about making any projects up! And, you might meet some new people there, too. Not only are the people there nice, but the teachers are amazing as well! The only thing that you would need in order to attend a meeting is a yoga mat (not exactly needed but highly recommended and preferred), and a good mindset. Some days, you might walk out of the room not only with a calmer mind and body, but also sometimes a coloring sheet. Here are a couple of interviews from some of the proud club members and advisors/ yoga instructors!
I = Interviewer
S = Student or Instructor in the Mindfulness Club

I: What inspired you to start the club?
S: I actually heard about it on the announcements and I was so excited that there was a club about yoga. I was so excited that on the same day, I emailed Mrs. Urban asking to be apart of it.
I: What is your favorite thing to do in the club?
S: Well so far, doing the yoga flow with them. Getting them together to do the yoga flow is probably the best part.
So, how much fun does that sound? There’s so many students that love attending this club, and have so much fun together. The club starts off doing guided meditation, then does a bunch of fun activities! Overall, I highly recommend going to the Yoga and Mindfulness Club. The teachers are amazing, and so are the students. If you decide that yoga just isn’t your thing after going to one meeting, you don’t have to go back! The teachers will just be happy that you’re there and that you tried it. Anyways, happy spring!

Rocks from Space
by Abigail Matheis
Have you ever wondered how meteorites were formed, what they are, or anything about these rocks from the sky? Well if you have, then you might think to yourself where can I find the answers? In this article, you will learn many facts about meteorites and where they came from.
Meteorites are the oldest and most ancient things that a human can actually touch. Some of which were made as the solar system was forming! The majority of them are pieces of asteroids which had been orbiting between Mars and Jupiter for billions of years. Occasionally, when they break out of orbit, some collide with other asteroids and can get pulled by Earth’s gravity into the atmosphere where many are found in desert areas. A meteoroid is when it's flying through space and when it lands on a planet, it then becomes a meteorite. There are 3 main types of meteorites: metal, stony-iron, and stony. Metal meteorites are mostly iron and nickel (magnets would stick to these), stony-iron meteorites have nearly equal amounts of silicate and metal crystals (magnet would stick, but not well), and stony meteorites are made of mostly non metallic minerals (magnet will not stick). Some scientists believe that life was seeded by meteorites bringing over microorganisms. In conclusion, meteorites are some of the oldest things on Earth.
Yankee Stadium: Full Review
by John Thomas
Introduction
Many people go to Yankee Stadium to see the Yankees play even if they’re not a fan and there is a reason for that. The Yankees are one of the most exciting teams in sports with 27 world series victories. Yankee Stadium is loaded with food, activities, and much more. Yankee Stadium is a great place to watch the most historic and successful team in North American sports history.
The Stadium Itself
The new Yankee Stadium was built right across the street from the old Yankee Stadium and was opened in 2009. Macombs Dam Park is actually where old Yankee Stadium was built but has transformed into a little league baseball field and park. The location of Yankee Stadium is along 161 street in the Bronx hence the name Bronx Bombers. The dimensions of Yankee Stadium are 318ft to the left field foul pole, 408ft to dead center, and 314ft to the right field foul pole. Old Yankee Stadium cost the team just 2.4 million dollars to construct after moving from the Polo Grounds in 1922 old Yankee Stadium was opened in 1923. New Yankee Stadium cost a whopping 2.3 billion dollars to build in 2008.
The Food
The food at Yankee Stadium is phenomenal and although Citi Field has Shake-Shack guess what it doesn’t have, Streetbird. Yankee Stadium’s version of Shake-Shack just a tad bit better, don’t tell the Mets fans I said that. Yankee Stadium has probably the best ice cream I’ve ever had, Oatly Soft Serve is fantastic. They have a delicious creamy chocolate and a great vanilla ice cream. I didn’t even know it was dairy free until I went back for seconds. Of course you can’t forget Yankee Stadium’s very own Mighty Quinn’s, specifically their brisket sandwich. The brisket sandwich is a staple at Yankee Stadium. Yankee Stadium has a lot of food to offer, the favorites are Streetbird, Benihana, The Halal Guys, City Winery, King’s Hawaiian, Oatly, Grand Slam Shakes and much more.
The Team
With the Yankees being one of if not the best baseball teams in the sport. The team is loaded with superstars ranging from Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, Harrison Bader, Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes, and newly acquired Carlos Rodon. The most historic team in sports is back in business on March 30th, Opening Day for the MLB. The Yankees are loaded with talent and a bunch of young bucks ready to be called up. The Yankees have some of the most positional depth in the league with a lot of infielders and outfielders. The Yankees needed starting pitching help this offseason and they acquired star pitcher Carlos Rodon for 6 years for $162,000,000. The Yankees also addressed resigning the reigning AL MVP and single season AL home run leader in history for 9 years for $360,000,000. The Yankees also re-signed Anthony Rizzo for 2 years for $40,000,000. Aaron Boone is letting the kids play in spring training and it is definitely the right move as they are playing great against the big leaguers. Some rising stars in the farm system are Oswaldo Cabrera, Jasson Domínguez, Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza, and Austin Wells. The Yankees are for sure as always gonna be a fun team to watch and be sure to watch out for those end of season ‘staches.
Monument Park
Monument Park is always the best way to kick off the pregame at Yankee Stadium. Monument Park consists of many players from the past and some recent guys like Derek Jeter, Paul O’neil, and Mariano Rivera. Monument Park is located in dead center field and is used as a place to remember and pay homage to the amazing players that have put on the pinstripes in their career. 30 Yankee legends are being honored in Monument Park as of March 2023. Monument Park actually used to be in play in center field at old Yankee Stadium.
The Yankee Museum
The New York Yankees Museum located at section 210 is one for the ages. The Yankees Museum has everything from players equipment, world series rings, game worn jerseys, and much more. The Yankees museum starts with the featured exhibits, the exhibits that aren’t permanent but are commemorating an anniversary of a historic achievement or a record breaking event set by a current player. As soon as you walk in there is an exhibit of players achieving franchise records for the Yankees. There are jerseys, gloves, and balls in the franchise records exhibit. As you keep walking there is a computer that tells you all 40 guys on the roster for one certain year, then you walk a couple of steps and there are all 27 world series rings from 1923 all the way to 2009 except for this year’s ring that will be coming up in November. The Commissioner's Trophies are shown next to the rings and in front of the rings is the home plate and rubber from old Yankee Stadium. You can also customize your locker at the very end.
Conclusion
There is no doubt that the New York Yankees are the best team in major league baseball history but they were never this ever so dominant team that ran New York City like we know them today, they were once a struggling team with no cap space. The Yankees even had to share Polo Grounds with the New York Giants now known as the San Francisco Giants as their first stadium. The Yankees have performed time and time again so let there be no surprises when November rolls around and the Bronx is partying… you’ll know why.
How to Grow Kiwis
by Elena Lopez
Have you ever had a kiwi? Kiwis are berries that grow best in the United States, New Zealand, Greece, France and Chile. Kiwis weigh about an average of 2.8 grams, and are about 2 inches in diameter. They can have a cost of about $2 per pound, which is expensive for just one pound of fruit. Instead of buying kiwis, it may be easier to just grow them.
Requirements for Growing a Kiwi
The first thing you’ll need to do is to make sure you have enough space to grow a kiwi plant. You will need a male and a female Kiwi plant spread about 8-15 feet apart from each other. Then, you’ll need to make sure your yard has the conditions a kiwi plant needs to grow properly. Although kiwis can grow in a light shade, you will have much better success with growing them in full sun. Then you will have to make sure the soil is habitable for a kiwi plant. Kiwis grow best in well-drained soil, but the soil cannot be 100% dry. The soil should also have a pH between 5.0 and 6.5. A kiwi plant may also grow best facing a south or west faced wall. You may also have to protect young sprouts in the winter, being that they are vulnerable to frost damage. Now that you know the living conditions of a kiwi plant, you can begin to start the growing process.
Steps to Growing a Kiwi
First, remove the seeds of a mature kiwi. Let the seeds dry for two days before moving onto the next step. Then, let the kiwi seeds sit in a container with moist perlite. Refrigerate this container at about 40’F, about 4’C for two months. Next, plant the seeds about ⅛ inches deep in a sterile potting mix. Proceed to cover this container in plastic wrap. Place this container in a warm, bright, and sunny spot and keep the soil moist. Later, when kiwi sprouts begin to appear, remove the lid of the container. Then, when the plants have four true leaves, transplant the seeds into individual spots. When the plants are inches tall, transport them outdoors. Next, when the Kiwis are about six inches tall, cut the stem into six piece lengths and place the cuttings into individual cups of water. In three weeks the cuttings should have tiny roots. Finally, plant the kiwis in a pot indoors in a sunny spot or outdoors.
Maintenance
After the Kiwi seeds are planted, you will have to maintain the plant. After waiting a bit, it is recommended to plant the seeds in the ground with the above steps. During the first year of growth, you should water the plant deeply, yet not excessively. This could likely kill the plant. It is also recommended to annually add mulch. You also need to inspect the plant for insects that could kill or mess up the plant's growth. The kiwi plant should take around three years to sprout fruit if it is pollinated by male.
Conclusion
Once you have developed kiwi fruits, you can make smoothies, sorbet, jam, or just eat them plain. Don't eat the skin though, it's not edible. Although growing a kiwi takes a long time, it's worth it!
WW2 Events (in order)
by Nate Stutz
World War II was the most intense war in history, and it ended with the deaths of 72 million.
There were some good outcomes, like the establishment of the U.N and NATO, and the advancement of technology. The bad things were like the holocaust and the Japanese’s massacres of Chinese civilians. But there were many events that led up to it and events that were turning it too, so let’s get into it!
Remilitarization of the Rhineland: March 7, 1936
Germany was angered by the Treaty of Versailles that ended World War I in 1919, that established the weak Weimar Republic and Germany went into an economic crisis. The treaty basically stated that Germany were to have no aircraft, a military with no more than 100,000 men in the army. It also made Germany pay back 132 billion gold marks, or 269 billion US dollars in today’s standard. The Germans also needed to demilitarize the Rhineland, which was the region of Germany that borders France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, which was supposed to prevent future German aggression. After Hitler took power in 1933, he was angered by the treaty, so on March 7, 1936, he broke the treaty and stationed troops there.
2nd Sino-Japanese War: July 7, 1937-September 9, 1945
The 2nd Sino-Japanese War was a conflict between the Japanese Empire and Chinese warlords, including Communist China, which is the government that rules Mainland China today. It all started with the Marco Polo bridge incident, which was a skirmish between Japan and China, in which 756 people died. This led to an 8 year long conflict, which overlapped with WW2. The Chinese were not prepared, which led to them losing many lives and land in the process. But in the end, the Chinese won with the nuking of Japan, as well as the surrender, in 1945.
Anschluss of Austria: March 12-13, 1938
The Germans were seeking to join all ethnic German lands into their control, as you will see later, and this is no different. An Anschluss is the German word for unification or political union. This wasn’t an invasion, as the Austrians held a vote for them to join Germany. The reason they joined was because they had had similar political ideals, and the Austrians overwhelmingly voted in favor of it
German Annexation of the Sudetenland October 1-10 1938
Not long after the Anschluss of Austria, the Germans turned their attention to the Sudetenland, which was mostly of German ethnicity, which was in the Western area of Czechoslovakia, which is modern day Czechia and Slovakia, and a tiny area of Western Ukraine. The reason that nobody interfered with these annexations was because of the Appeasement Policy. This said that the British and French would not interfere to prevent further conflict on a global scale.
Pact of Steel: May 22, 1939
The Italians, Germans, and Japanese all were major fascist powers. A fascist country is one country that opposes other political parties, and the leader is led by a king-like dictator. The alliance between the three would be important in the impending conflict between democracy and fascism.
The Kickoff of WW2: September 1, 1939
The Germans had an exclave, which is a part of a country that doesn’t border the mainland. In Nazi Germany, there was one as well. Kaliningrad was separated from Germany by the Polish corridor. The German asked to annex this land, but the Polish refused, and along with the Soviet Union, in an alliance known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, they attacked Poland, and Great Britain and France declared war against Germany, but not the USSR. The invasion lasted 35 days.
Phony War: September 3, 1939-May 10, 1940
The start of the second world war wasn’t that filled with death, as the Allied power and Axis powers didn’t fight much in the beginning. The Axis was the German, and Italian alliances. The phony part ended with the German invasion of Denmark and Norway
Germany Attacks Denmark and Norway: April 9th, 1940-June 9, 1940
The Germans wanted to control the North sea and control the iron reserves in Scandinavia, so they attacked, the German invasion of Denmark only lasted 6 hours, with 1 danish shot being fired at the Nazis. The Norwegians, on the other hand, resisted the longest of all nations attacked by the Nazis, which was 61 days. The Germans saw Norway as a possible staging ground for an invasion of the United Kingdom.
German invasion of the Lowland Countries: October 9, 1940
Adolf Hitler saw the low countries as a great place to invade France. The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg were all almost under sea level, but they extended the land so they could live on it. The French heavily fortified the Maginot Line, which was the current French and German border, but the French didn’t expect an attack from the north, which they would regret, after the Netherlands fell in a week, Belgium in 18 days, and Luxembourg in a single day.
The Blitzkrieg against the French: May 10-June 25, 1940
As the French didn’t defend the northern front because they didn’t expect an attack, which I call being cocky. They swept through the northern plains and took all major cities, and the French surrendered, many fled through the city of Dunkerque, where a movie was based from. The Nazis established a puppet state in Vichy France. A puppet of a country is a country where they use all resources and act as a buffer state.
Tripartite Pact: September 27, 1940
The Axis Powers wanted to expand their control across Europe, so they asked for help in the Balkans, a peninsula in Southeastern Europe. At this time it consisted of 5 countries, Yugoslavia, Greece, Bulgaria, a slip of Turkey, and Romania. The Axis was the alliance between Germany and Italy, as well as Japan. Greece and Yugoslavia rejected, so the Germans and Italians would show the mistake they made.
German invasion of the West Balkans: April 6, 1941
The Germans wanted to launch an assault against the Balkan countries that didn’t accept the pact. The Italians were already attacking Greece, but no significant moves were made. The Germans, as they did with the earlier countries attacked, swept through them with no problem. The Yugoslavs fell in 18 days and the Greeks in 24.
Fall of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact: June 22, 1941
The Germans thought the Soviets were a threat, and they were prepared for what was coming for them. The Germans broke the pact on June 22, 1941, and the then dictator Iosif Stalin didn’t expect an attack. The Germans would quickly take major cities in the USSR like Minsk and Kyiv. But, when the winter came, their advance was grinded to a halt.
Attack on Pearl Harbor: December 7, 1941
The Japanese were a very ambitious country, they wanted to gain influence all over the Pacific. And as their attack on the Chinese was going well, they set their eyes on the neutral United States. Pearl Harbor, a port in the then territory of Hawaii, was attacked resulting in the loss of thousands of lives and the sinking of a sizable chunk of the US fleet. The British were surprised with the attack and wanted to call the US to the war almost immediately.
Battle of Stalingrad: August 23, 1942 - February 2, 1943:
The battle of Stalingrad, now known as Volgograd in Russia, was perhaps the biggest battle in world history. It resulted in 1.5 million deaths, including civilians. The soviets ended up winning, and it all went downhill for the Germans from there.
Allied Invasion of Italy: September 3, 1943:
After taking the majority of North Africa from the Italians, the allies decided to attack them at their weakest. On September 3, 1943, the allies began their invasion of Sicily, the Southern Island of Italy, where US paratroopers were accidentally shot down by British forces. The invasion was back and forth, and after 18 months, the allies took the entire peninsula, wrecking the beautiful landscapes along the way.
D-Day Invasion: June, 6 1944:
The US, which was successful in the Pacific front against the Japanese, launched an invasion with the British and French soldiers that evaded capture during the armistice and capture of France. The attack was successful, and the Allied power gained a firm foothold of mainland Europe, and with the help of the Soviets, were putting the Germans on a last stand, as the Italians were already gone, when the year before the Allies attacked Sicily and traveled north.
Capitulation of Germany: May 8, 1945:
After losing most of their claimed land, and even Berlin, Poland liberated, the Balkans liberated, as well as France, and even Hitler dead and Berlin lost, the Germans surrendered. The Soviets established communist governments in East Germany, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and Albania, with the balkan exception of Greece.
Nuking of Japan: August 6&9, 1945
With the US still at war with Japan, and their pacific front going well, the Americans developed nukes, and dropped them on Japanese cities Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The Japanese surrendered and a democratic government was put in place, and the American continued occupying Japan until 1952, and now Japan is a major ally of the United States.

Warm Day
Today is a warm day.
I will play outside.
Let's hope that there is very few bees
And then we can play outside.
Let’s have fun!
Come Outside
Come outside to play.
Come outside to swim.
Come outside to collect flowers.
But make sure to avoid the bees.
But really come outside.
Not the Bees!
The bees!
They are going to get me.
They will sting me and I have allergies!
Never the bees that will sting me.
Top Movies to See From December-April
by Nick Andreski
9. Violent Night (December 2, 2022)
It was a good movie but other movies on this list are better. This movie also had a good amount of hype, but it didn’t live up to it. It is about a family being held captive by a group of mercenaries when a man breaks into the compound to save them. It was still a great movie even though it lacked critical areas.
8. Scream 6 (March 10th, 2023)
The first few Scream movies were very good, but the more recent movies were a lot worse. The ratings are going down and I am not very excited for this movie.
7. Avatar: Way of the Water (December 16th, 2022)
I found the first Avatar to be very good and interesting but it was a very long movie. It became very boring and I stopped watching it. Seeing that the second movie was about just as long I don’t expect anything more.
6. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (December 21st, 2022)
This movie was very good and very entertaining. The quality was very high and it looked amazing. It had solid comedy and action scenes that were great. Overall, nothing needed to be changed but it isn’t as good as the other movies on this list.
5. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (February 17th, 2023)
This movie was extremely hyped and I thought it was going to be a top 10 Marvel project, but it was not very good. Some CGI was not very good, but the action made up for that. It also has a very interesting plot with a great post-credit scene.
4. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (April 5th, 2023)
This looks like it is a very well animated movie and should be exciting. Many people have been waiting for this movie for years. It seems interesting and should be remembered as a good debut movie.
3. Shazam! Fury of the Gods (March 17th, 2023)
Personally, I am very excited about this. I loved the first movie and I hope the second is just as good. This seems like it will be all about the Shazam family and the missing member. That missing member will probably be the villain. I really hope this will bring the DC universe back.
2. Creed lll
This movie had a very basic plot that can work for any movie, villain is once better than the hero and the hero wins the second fight. He relies on family to get him through the fights. This also has a great ending. I think that this movie was still good and sits well at 3rd.
1. John Wick: Chapter 4 (May 27th, 2023)
After 3 very successful movies, a fourth one is coming out. This seems like it will be a very important part of the John Wick series. This will most likely be nominated for some kind of award and maybe more. This movie is also going to be very violent and action-packed. This movie is easily #1 on this list.
Shows and Movies I Recommend
by Justin McComb
The Good Place
This show is PERFECT 10/10 definitely, the plot twists in this show are mind blowing and the ending of season 4 was amazing. The good place follows Eleanor Shellstrop, Tahani Al Jamil, Chidi Anagonye, and Jason Mendoza after they were all transported to the afterlife also known as the Good Place. But some of them aren't supposed to be there… This show has 4 seasons all circling around the afterlife, relationships, and trust. I would definitely recommend it! You can watch on Netflix and it is 12+
Stranger Things
This show is great! I would rate it a 8/10. There are some seriously great action scenes but you can tell there are some parts where it could be better. With four seasons and a fifth one coming soon, Stranger Things is set in the late 90s all about the people of Hawkins, Indiana, as their town is connected to the upside down, an alternate dimension filled with monsters. Eleven, known as Jane Hopper is the main hero of the show helping to defeat any monsters in the Upside Down and trying to seal off the entrance she created.
ME3AN
If you're into a little horror this is for you! This was an AMAZING movie. I would rate it a 9/10. The ending was amazing and the movie is like an experiment gone wrong. M3GAN is a lifelike doll that's programmed to be a child's protector and friend. Designed by Gemma, a brilliant scientist, M3GAN can listen, watch and learn as it plays the role of friend and teacher, friend and even a protector. But ME3AN misunderstands her goal function and ends up murdering people and causing havoc.
Never Have I Ever
This is a pretty good show that I enjoyed watching, not really binge worthy though. I would rate it a 7/10. This show is about Devi, a teenager in High School just trying to get through it. But her friends and family don't make it easy for her. Her friends, relationships, along with her dads passing influences her accidentally hurting people, There are 3 seasons with a fourth coming soon!
The Last Of Us
This show is amazing! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time ! The Last Of Us has a perfect combination of sadness and scariness. If you're into scary movies and zombie apocalypse movies this is the show for you! The show is based on a video game and it's about life after a global zombie-pandemic, a scarred survivor taking charge of a 14-year-old girl who may be humanity's last hope. There is one season with a second confirmed. I am really excited and I hope you start watching!
Wednesday Review
by Eleni Diakoumakis
Are you someone who loves The Addams Family? Well, then the Netflix show Wednesday is the right show for you! Wednesday is about Wednesday, portrayed by Jenna Ortega, and how her parents send her to their old boarding school, Nevermore, the school for outcasts. The show starts off with Wednesday walking through a normal high school. Everyone is avoiding Wednesday because obviously she looks a bit weird with her pale face and cooky choice of clothing. Wednesday then starts having visions after taking her brother out of a locker. Her first vision is the bullies locking Pugsley in a locker. She then plans that she will put piranhas in a pool to get back at the bullies. This leads to Wednesday going to Nevermore. She also meets her roommate, Enid Sinclair. That night at a fall festival, Wednesday has a vision. She sees a student named Rowan being killed. But, Rowan thinks Wednesday is a danger to Nevermore and tries to kill her. Fortunately, before he kills her, then, a monster appears and tears Rowan to bits.
In episode 2, we see a mysterious serial killer committing many murders. The sheriff of the town (Jericho) questions Wednesday about the night's events. But, nobody believes Wednesday when she talks about how Rowan was torn to bits by a monster. Wednesday enters the Nightshades headquarters and realizes she's at a secret library. Later, Enid suggests that Wednesday participates in a boat race.

Stranger Things Season 3 & 4 Review
by Max Burns
Stranger Things Season 3 and 4
Stranger Things season 3 and 4 were so good that not only did the show get lots of popularity, but Netflix itself gained lots of popularity. What made these 2 seasons so popular?
Season 3
At the start of Season 3 Mike, Eleven, Dustin, and Max are all messing around with each other. Mike and Eleven are now dating each other and are always hanging out. However, Lucas and some of Mike’s other friends don’t like this new version of Mike. They feel like he hangs out with Eleven too much. Meanwhile far away in Russia. There had been another lab that opened another portal to the Upside Down. The Mind Flair had found a new host. Its new host is Billy. He was a strong lifeguard as well as Max’s older brother. Billy started to violently bring people to a warehouse where this weird creature made out of flesh would inject something inside the people which possessed them. As we got to the end of the season the possessed people were sacrificed to be made into this one giant creature made of flesh. It was controlled by the mindflair as well. Eventually it was trying to attack eleven but they killed the mindflair while sacrificing Billy in the process. Max was crying as Billy was killed by the mindflair
Season 4
At the beginning of Season 4 a cheerleader named Chrissy dies and her boyfriend is trying to figure out who killed her. The real answer to the question was Vecna. Vecna is like eleven but instead of the number 11, he has the number 1. A long time ago eleven had killed this monster and sent him upside down. He was able to get back and now kills people through their own minds. If the person's mind is weak, Vecna can get in. Vecna almost kills Max multiple times as she is really weak. Max’s heart stops beating but eleven rescues her and brings her back. However, 5 people were killed by Vecna. The upside down and the real world would combine. Although Max was brought back, She was still counted as dead. The most important final scene we saw in Season 4 was the upside down spreading quickly to the rest of the world. We also learned that Vecna has not died. He had escaped and is still out there somewhere.
Conclusion
Overall, Stranger things season 3 and 4 were very good and enjoyed by most who watched it. It was so popular that these seasons made Netflix itself more popular and Stranger Things still plans to do a season 5.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Review
by John Brzezinski
In November, the long awaited Pokémon Scarlet and Violet came out to the public. In this article I will discuss the game and everything you need to know.
Starters
First, I will discuss the starters and try to give you an idea on which you should pick. Starting off we have Sprigatito, the grass type starter. Next, we have Fuecoco, the fire type starter. Finally Quaxly, the Water type starter. Sprigatito’s final stage is Meowscarada, Fuecoco’s final stage is Skeledirge, and Quaxly’s final stage is Quaquaval. Skeledirge is a Fire/Ghost Type, Quaquaval is a Water/Fighting type and Meowscarada is a Grass/Dark type. Each of these have a different signature move, Skeledirge has Torch Song, which raises your Special attack every time it is used, Quaquaval has Aqua Step, which raises your speed every time it is used, and Meowscarada has Flower Trick, which always lands a critical hit. All these Pokémon are great in their own ways, with that knowledge it’s preference.
Gameplay
For those who have actually played the game, they would know that the game was released in awful condition, the game so unbelievably laggy and buggy and with glitches left and right. You cannot even go online without seeing at least one “Communication error has occurred”. If we put the buggy stuff to the side, you get a really fun game with an amazing story. The story is one of the best Game Freak has ever made. The things in the game are good too, you can go in any order you want, fighting raids, catching new Pokémon, there is a lot to do.
Post Game
The post games in Pokémon are usually good, however this game is a little different, I'm not going to spoil the main Post game story with the crater, but the post game is very boring. You basically just beat all the gyms again and do this strange tournament thing, that's it, that's the post game. There is not much to do, but the story is very interesting and very good, I really recommend playing till the post game.
The Story
The story is one of the best that a Pokémon has ever had, it gets emotional, and the main characters are amazing and have interesting back stories. The characters are very relatable and for some reason the story is actually emotional in some ways and is one of the better stories we had in a long time compared to past Pokémon games.
Shiny Hunting
This game changed the best way to hunt shiny Pokémon, so let's talk about it. Shiny Pokémon will appear in the overworld now unlike sword and shield, so it is easier to hunt that way. The best way to hunt in S&V is using the sandwich method. You use certain ingredients when making sandwiches to get Sparkling Power, Title Power, and Encounter power all level 3. This is by using herba mystica (can be found after unlocking 5* raids). These shiny sandwiches boost the spawn and encounter rate of certain Pokémon. The Masuda method still exists, but differently. You get 2 Pokémon, one ditto of different language origins, and you head to the nurse- oh wait.. There is no nursery? Oh well then let's camp with them and then we get eggs. Using egg power sandwiches helps boost more eggs.
After all, Scarlet and violet are good games overall and I would recommend buying them.
Peep Sunflower Cake
by Eleni Diakoumakis
Ingredients
1 yellow cake mix (regular size)
2 cans (16 ounces each) chocolate frosting
19 to 20 yellow chick Peeps candies
1-1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips (assorted sizes)
Directions
Prepare and bake cake mix according to package directions, using two parchment-lined and greased 9-in. round baking pans. Cool in pans 10 minutes before removing to wire racks; remove paper. Cool completely.
If cake layers have rounded tops, trim with a long serrated knife to make level. Spread frosting between layers and over top and sides of cake.
For petals, arrange Peeps around the edge of the cake, curving slightly and being careful not to separate chicks. For sunflower seeds, arrange chocolate chips in the center of the cake.
Test Kitchen Tips
Thick frosting tends to tear the cake. For easier spreading, try thinning it with 1-2 teaspoons of water.
Tweezers come in handy when arranging chocolate chips.
Keeping Peeps connected works great for decorating this cake. But you can also cut them apart and arrange individual chicks around the cake's perimeter. Either method yields an adorable result.
