Our busy classrooms
1st grade
3rd grade
5th grade
In 5th grade, students have been working hard on completing cause and effect essays. Next up is theme. In math, they continue to make growth in their computation skills.
CLDE
Our students are busy finishing up the last 2 domains (Speaking and Writing) of the ACCESS Test. For those of you who have children taking the test for the first time this year, the ACCESS Test is the equivalent of the Superbowl for our Multi-Language Learners. It is an English aptitude test, testing our students on their mastery of the English language. This includes how well they can listen, read, speak, and write in English. This test happens during a month-long period every year. Our students have been working very hard to give their best and show off how well their journey with English has been over the past year. They are almost done, and we will have their results toward the end of the semester. Other than testing, our students are continuing their education every day as well. The CLDE department of Mountain Vista appreciates all of the families, students, and communities continued support!

February is Black History Month! Let us honor the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history. Here are a few facts from some of our historical figures:
- Shirley Chisholm during the year of 1968, was the first African American woman in Congress.
- Jackie Robinson joined the Major League Baseball in 1947. At the time he played for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
- Famous scientist: George Washington Carver discovered different uses for peanuts, soybeans, pecans and sweet potatoes.
- Alive and well, Mae Jemison on September 12, 1992, went into orbit aboard the space shuttle Endeavour as the first African American woman in space.
Another culture celebration starts on February 28th, the first day of Ramadan! Did you know the word "Ramadan" originates from the Arabic root "ramad," which means scorching heat or dryness. Aside from fasting, Ramadan is a time of spiritual renewal, discipline and a journey of self-reflection.
Thank you to our school resource officers for your support and hard work. February 15th is National School Resource Officers Appreciation Day!
