Kindness Week
Kindness Week was a great mix of learning and bonding. We had activities that encouraged kindness, empathy, and teamwork. It was a chance to connect with classmates, work together on projects, and discover new ways to spread kindness. The week left everyone feeling closer and more aware of how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Counselor's Corner Snippet
From our amazing Counselor Lexi Ward
"Happy February! Last month in K-2, we worked on using our Personal Space Tool and practiced defining our personal space bubbles. We discussed why it's important to respect one another's boundaries and how to use our words in an appropriate way when someone is invading our space. We used hula hoops for the visual of our imaginary space bubbles that surround us and how that space grows bigger or smaller in different situations. We read the book "Personal Space Camp" and each student created their own personal space astronauts. So much fun! This month we are focusing on our listening tool.
In grades 3-5 , we worked on setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) goals. Each student worked through a goal of theirs and turned it into an action plan. We will follow-up on this goal throughout the rest of the year as a class and I would encourage you to ask your student about theirs. This involved using our patience tool as we talked about how most goals are not achieved overnight, but through hard-work and dedication over a certain period of time. This month we are working on forming healthy relationships with our peers.
If you have any questions about how these lessons can be reinforced at home, please feel free to reach out to me anytime at ward.lexi@westada.org π "

Handwashing
Did you know?
Handwashing offers several key benefits for elementary students:
1. **Prevents Illness**: Regular handwashing helps reduce the spread of germs, leading to fewer colds, stomach bugs, and other infections.
2. **Builds Good Hygiene Habits**: It teaches students responsibility for their own health, fostering lifelong habits of cleanliness.
3. **Reduces Contagion**: Handwashing helps keep germs from spreading to classmates, teachers, and family members.
4. **Improves Food Safety**: It prevents the spread of foodborne illnesses by ensuring hands are clean before eating.
5. **Protects Skin and Eyes**: Handwashing reduces the risk of skin infections and prevents eye infections like pink eye.
6. **Supports Learning**: Healthy students are more focused, miss fewer school days, and engage better in class.
**Tips to Encourage Handwashing**:
- Make it fun with songs or games.
- Teach the 20-second wash rule.
- Model good hygiene behavior.
- Ensure easy access to sinks and soap.
By promoting handwashing, schools create a healthier, safer environment for students and staff.
