What is Happening in P.E?
Over the past few weeks we have been focusing on fitness during PE. We have done yoga and working on controlling our breathing and heart rate. Then we did fitness activities in a game setting. For a little fun before break I had each class vote on there 2 favorite large group PE games. We then randomly assigned one game to the Kansas City Chiefs and one game to the San Franciso 49ers. Next week we will play the game assigned to the winner of the super bowl!
A few reminders and helpful items for PE. Please help your child to remember sneakers and water bottles for their PE days. Also because we are in an old building and the way the heat is set up it gets very warm in the gym. It might be helpful if they wear layers on the days they have PE so that they can just have a tshirt on instead of a sweatshirt or heavy sweater.
What is Happening in the Library?
Red Clover Books
The Red Clover Book Award is Vermont’s children’s-choice picture book award created to honor excellence children’s literature. Vermont youth in grades K-4 read the 10 nominated books and vote for their favorite. In grades K-4th grade, we have been reading a title a week and students have been keeping journals to rate and reflect on each picture book. We will vote for our favorite in March.
Golden Dome Book Award
Vermont Golden Dome Book Award is Vermont’s children’s-choice middle-grade book award created to honor excellence in children's literature. Vermont students in grades 4-8 read the 25 nominated books and vote for their favorite. We have been encouraging Lothrop students in 4th-6th grade to read 5 titles from this list. Students can read it independently, or listen to the audiobook or have the book read to them. We currently have over 20 students at Lothrop who are working towards completing this challenge. They need to read 5 books by April 25th in order to attend our district author event at OV.
Book Report Podcasts
5th grade is currently turning their latest book report into podcasts. Students are using WeVideo to narrate their voices and add music in order to create a podcast. They will share and present their podcasts with other learners at Lothrop.

Car Rider Drop Off/Pick Up Reminders
- Car drop offs and pick ups should occur in the lower lot only in the morning and afternoon.
- Please pull all the way forward so we can unload or load as many students at one time as possible, it really does make it go faster.
- Please remain in your vehicle, although we understand that some younger students still need help with seatbelts, if possible, please work with your child to be able to buckle their own seat belt.
- Please remember that student safety is our priority. Please do not park in the lot and ask your child to come to you or pass other vehicles in line.
- Please be patient, we're all working hard to make these times run smoothly. Thank you!

Girls on the Run 2024 Information
Every Girls on the Run season, volunteer coaches foster empathy and acceptance by empowering participants to build strong connections with one another, regardless of their backgrounds, abilities, or beliefs. Throughout the program, girls learn to appreciate the beauty of diversity and grow into compassionate, understanding, and open-minded individuals. Become a GOTR coach at Lothrop School and play a vital role in developing these positive relationships.
Our 10-week season begins the week of March 18 and culminates on June 8th with a celebratory 5K event!. Our team will meet twice weekly for 90 minutes each session to connect, move, learn and have FUN! No running or coaching experience is required. Coaches are provided with comprehensive training, a curriculum that maps out each session, supplies and support from GOTRVT for an enriching season. Programs are for girls in 3rd-8th grade.
