The Tiger Times
Week of September 15, 2024
Hello Ragsdale Families,
This is Noel Keener, the proud principal of Ragsdale High with this week's updates.
It may be hard to believe, but next week is already the 4th week of school which means our first Interim Grade Reports will be sent out. They will be emailed out on Tuesday, September 17. If you don't receive an email, please check to see if the correct email address is listed in PowerSchool. You can check by logging into PowerSchool Parent Portal by going to the link under "Parents" on our school website. The link is also provided in this week's Tiger Times. All interims and report cards go out through email, so we want to ensure we have the correct information.
Have any questions about your child's grades or attendance? Please reach out to your child's teachers. Find our counselor and administrator assignments in our newsletter.
Please remember we are scanning OneCards in the morning as students enter. Students should have their OneCards out and ready to scan. If students have not received their OneCard yet, they should see the Attendance Office. Lost OneCards can be replaced for $5. Please be sure you arrive at school with plenty of time to scan in, walk through the scanner, and get to class before the 9:15 tardy bell.
All cars parked on campus must now have a valid parking pass. If you still need a parking pass, it can be purchased at the Attendance window. Cost is $50. You must also have a valid drivers license and present your registration.
Please look for us on Instagram @ragsdalehigh and Facebook @lucyragsdalehigh.
We look forward to seeing you Monday at 8:55!
Thank you , have a great week, and, as always, TIGER PRIDE!

Sales Tax Referendum
On November 5th, voters in Guilford County will consider a sales tax referendum. If the sales tax referendum passes, GCS will use the additional funding to recruit and retain effective teachers and increase compensation for frontline workers.
Sales Tax FAQs
Will the sales tax apply to all purchases?
- The sales tax would not affect essential items such as gas, groceries or prescription medication.
If the sales tax referendum passes, how much more will I pay?
- The proposed sales tax increase is 0.25% (a fraction of a penny). It will increase the sales tax in Guilford County from its current rate of 6.75% to 7%.
- The fraction of a penny tax amount would equal an additional five pennies on a $20 purchase. With tax, a $20 item would cost $21.40 instead of $21.35.
How much could the district expect to bring in from the sales tax increase?
- County government officials could see about $25 million per year in revenue.
- The referendum will distribute the cost of education to both visitors and residents alike.
How will the sales tax money be used?
- If the sales tax referendum passes, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners has committed to allocating the additional funding to increase compensation for teachers and frontline workers.
How will the sales tax money benefit frontline workers, including cafeteria workers, custodial staff, mechanics and bus drivers?
- If the sales tax referendum passes, it would help Guilford County Schools provide more competitive wages to frontline workers.
How does Guilford County’s sales tax compare to other area counties?
- Many surrounding counties, including Forsyth, Davidson, Randolph and Rockingham counties, already have a 7% sales tax. Wake and Mecklenburg counties are at 7.25%; Durham is at 7.5%.
How does Guilford County Schools’ pay scale for teachers compare to other area counties?
- Current teacher salaries in Guilford County are, on average, 35% lower than those in peer counties (Forsyth, Durham, Mecklenburg, and Wake).
