"The Hobbit"
Mrs. Schaal and Mrs. Hart took the National English Honor Society on a field trip on March 11th downtown to the Theatre of Youth. The students saw the play, “The Hobbit”, and enjoyed a question and answer session conducted by the actors afterward. The play took the audience on an adventure through forests, caves, and rivers while meeting and fighting off fantastical beasts.
Key Club
West Seneca East Key Club, led by advisor Mrs. Jennifer Eisenmann, hosted our second annual Student vs Staff Charity Volleyball night on March 12. New York City
Mrs. Eisenmann, Ms. Smith, and Mrs. Ruchalski took seniors from East and West High Schools to New York City for the Senior Math trip. Students visited MO*Math - Museum of Mathematics, Statue of Liberty, 911 Memorial and Museum, NBC Studio tour, Grand Central Station, and even got to attend a Knicks game! Students can only attend this trip if they are electively taking a 4th year of math.
Ramadan
We were happy to honor our Muslim students' celebration of Eid and mark the month of Ramadan. Since many of our Muslim students also helped decorate Christmas trees for our "hall of trees" in December with clubs and activities, we thought it would be fun to honor them and their holiday, too. We found an Eid Tree, courtesy of the PTG, that was designed by a Muslim mom in Michigan who wanted her own children to have the experience of having a "tree" to put their gifts under. It is in the shape of a crescent moon because it is symbolic for Muslims for a variety of reasons. The Islamic calendar is based on lunar cycles. Also, the beginning and end of Ramadan is marked by the new crescent moon. The students were very excited to put up our newest "East Tree" in the front hallway and were very happy to share in the beautiful hall of trees tradition.

Athletics
Heart of a Hall of Famer
Earlier this month, student-athletes from both East Senior and West Senior took part in the Heart of a Hall of Famer program. The students had the incredible opportunity to hear from Buffalo Bills legend Thurman Thomas, who shared his insights on what it truly takes—beyond athletic ability—to achieve success both on and off the field. Thurman discussed the core values of the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Commitment, Integrity, Courage, Respect, and Honesty, inspiring our students to embrace these principles in their own lives.

Alumni Spotlight
Each month an Alum of West Seneca East Senior will be featured in our Alumni Spotlight! May we introduce you to our very own, Mr. Joseph Godzala... What year did you graduate? 1989 What is one memory you have from growing up in West Seneca? Junior Year Varsity football. Our goal: Rich Stadium. Finished regular season 6-2. First round of playoffs travelled to Jamestown to play the #1 ranked large school in WNY. Crowd was brutal. Heckling and swearing at us during warmups, very intimidating but also motivating. Rained most of the week, the field was soaked which played to our advantage. We won 6-0 and earned our trip to play at Rich Stadium. In the locker room after the game, not a dry eye, we were all crying tears of joy. The next year Jamestown became one of the first high schools in WNY to install an artificial turf field. They were not going to let poor field conditions play a factor anymore. What were your dreams and goals in high school? Attend college and become a Physical Therapist. Being an athlete and having to rehab strains and sprains, I thought it a natural fit to become a Physical Therapist. Does that differ from where you are now and the career you are in? Sure does, currently in my 29th year of teaching, 28.5 at WSEast. Go Trojans! Do you know an Alum who you feel should be featured or who would like to be featured in our Alumni Spotlight? If so, please email Mrs Ocasio at nocasio@wscschools.org
