Hillside Family Newsletter
April 2024
Principal message
Dear Hillside Families,
I'm thrilled to share that our recent parent involvement events have been a tremendous success! Our Parent-Teacher Conferences saw an outstanding turnout of 97%, showcasing your strong commitment to your child's education. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the parents who dedicated their time to meet with our teachers and discuss their child's progress.
Additionally, I want to express my deep appreciation to all the parents who supported our students during their performances in Treasure Island. Your encouragement and support made a significant difference in their experience, and we are truly grateful.
As we approach the final stretch of the school year, I urge all families to continue seizing opportunities for school and family engagement. Our upcoming Git Up 'N Glow dance provides a perfect chance for families to come together and enjoy a memorable evening. Please consider volunteering to help ensure its success. The Git Up 'N Glow dance is just around the corner, scheduled for this Friday! We are also seeking parent volunteers to help make this event a success. Please see the form below!
Lastly, as we prepare for state testing, please remember that our 5th graders will commence science testing on April 16th followed by math and language Arts testing in the initial two weeks of May. While it's normal for students to feel apprehensive about these assessments, there are ways parents can assist in ensuring their children's success.
Here are a few tips to bear in mind:
Encourage your child to get sufficient rest the night before the test.
Ensure they have a nutritious breakfast prior to the test.
Remind them to carefully read and adhere to all instructions.
Stress the importance of taking their time and reviewing their work.
Encourage them to strive for their best without fixating on perfection.
Facilitate your child's regular attendance at school.
Thank you once again for your unwavering support. Together, we will make this a successful end to the school year.
Warm regards,
Principal Jen Durham

PurposeFull People character traits for our students of the month
During the month of April, our Hillside staff will be celebrating scholars who demonstrate courage. We will focus on understanding that fear is one of our feelings, it is okay to feel afraid, and how important it is to choose the right thing even when we are scared. We would encourage our families to practice this trait at home too!
April 2024
Courage: choosing what is helpful, right, and kind - even when it’s hard or scary.
Think About It
Here are some questions to ask your child at home or talk about as a family:
K-2 Think of someone you know that shows courage. How can you tell that they have courage? Why is it important that they show courage? How might their example help make your courage stronger? What are some strategies that have helped you feel calm even when you’re being asked to be brave?
3-5 Talk with your child about what scared you as you were growing up. How did you overcome those fears and/or show courage in the face of those fears? Talk about a time that you’ve needed to show courage. How did that feel? What did it look like? When have you wished for more courage? Who is your role model or example of courage? Why?
2024-2025 Registration is open for ALL students
2024-2025 Registration is open for ALL students. Every school will be expected to help parents register and update their information in Synergy. As we strive to improve communication with our families, it is critical to get their information updated and accurate. Begin thinking how you are going to support and encourage registration for the new school year.
