Miller Elementary Weekly Update
September 22, 2023
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families!
Our Fun in the Forest continued as our preschoolers ventured into the woods to check out the amazing fairy houses and fairies that our kinders and 5th graders made last week! We want to thank all the parent volunteers that came to Miller to take a short hike into the woods. This was such a fun way to discuss using our senses and exploring nature. Please check out some of the photos below!
Our kindergartners also had fun in the cafeteria this past week trying some new foods from our food service department, The Nutrition Group! We offered 2 days of free meals, we walked around fresh fruit and vegetables along with some apple crisp to any child that wanted to try it out. I think breakfast for lunch was a huge hit even though Mr. Jimmy and Mr. Anthony stayed extra busy cleaning up the sticky syrup!
This upcoming week our kindergarteners will be traveling on their first field trip to Lake Farm Park. Please remember to pack a disposable lunch for your child on the day of their trip. This includes any necessary disposable silverware and napkins. It is important that your child dresses for the weather in comfortable clothes. As always, we will travel with all important medical documents and medications. Our school nurse, Jackie Pawlowski, and many other school staff members will be going out to the farm too! Should something arise, one of our staff members will be in communication with your family. You will be receiving an important reminder about this trip next week.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Preschool Enrollment for the Current 23-24 School Year
We are currently accepting names of families interested in having their child be a part of our integrated preschool program for the current 2023-2024 school year. We still have openings in preschool and we will be holding screening days to meet potential children and explain more about our program. In addition, if you know of any families who might be interested in their child being a part of our preschool program, please feel free to pass this message along!
We have attached the preschool waiting list form below so we can collect the names of all interested families. We will reach out to families in the next week or two when we host our screening days. Children must be 3 years old, potty trained, have clear communication skills, and demonstrate age-expected social and emotional skills to be considered as a peer for our integrated program. If you have any questions, you can email Lauren Barker at lbarker@aurora-schools.org.

Miller Parent Pick-Up & Attendance Reporting 23-24
This is a reminder that we are using our Miller Attendance and Parent Pick-up Form as an easy communication tool to report your child will be absent or you need to pick them up from school early. You still need to use the Alternative Bus Stop Form linked in this newsletter if you need your child's bus to change. You do not need to report if they will not be riding the bus in the morning due to an absence or illness on this form.
If you want to change your child from a bus rider to a parent pick-up, please scan the QR code below or click the button to fill out our Google form. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Wolf.
If you need an alternative bus stop or a change in busing, we also have attached the transportation forms to change your child's busing information. These forms need to be completed and sent to our transportation department at transportationinfo@aurora-schools.org

Updates From Our School Counselor ~ Mrs. Ambrosia
Hello Miller! Part of my role as a school counselor consists of connecting families with varying resources. You will note a link to a list of Community Resources should you wish to explore resources for your child outside of the school setting. During the school year, Miller offers a variety of opportunities to assist families with financial needs through partnering with our PTO. By reaching out to me via phone, email or in-person, I can assist your student with funds for upcoming Book Fairs or the Holiday Shop, holiday gifts, Thanksgiving “baskets,” winter clothing including jackets, pants and boots; purchase of the class T-shirt, purchase of a yearbook, school supplies and any other need brought to my attention. Please do not hesitate to contact me with the slightest concern. Feel free to simply let me know what you need, and I’ll connect with you to ensure this need is fulfilled!

Updates From Nurse Jackie Pawlowski
Here are some important reminders to ensure the safety of our school community each day:
- Check your child each day for illness symptoms. If they begin to feel ill, please know she will assess your child and make contact with a family member when necessary.
- Students sent home with a fever or vomiting, may not return to school until they are fever or vomit-free without medication for at least 24 hours. This means if your child was sent home on Tuesday with a fever, he/she may not return to school until Thursday. If your child does return the next day, our school will be calling for you to come and pick him/her up. Please help to support our efforts in this area.
- We will use Final Forms to communicate any health concerns or communicable diseases that may arise in your child's class. Such examples include strep throat, pink eye, and COVID. This will allow you to closely monitor your child for any similar symptoms.
- Please make sure your Final Forms medical information is up to date. We will closely read the health sections to address any medical concerns.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email our school nurse Jackie Pawlowski at jpawlowski@aurora-schools.org.
