Hello North Rockland Families,
Welcome to Autumn 2022!
The first month of school has been an amazing start to an incredible year and I am so excited for all that is ahead. October kicks off all the things fall in North Rockland including autumn themed lessons, festivities, athletic contests and halloween events. Over the next few weeks, be on the lookout for our many fall extracurricular activities and events structured for all NR students and families to enjoy.
District leadership has begun the interview process for the new School Resource Officers who will be officially joining our team this fall. We are looking forward to the addition of these officers to our building's hallways, which will be the final piece of our increased Safety and Security measures. Stay tuned for their introductions to the community.
It was wonderful to meet our parents and guardians at this week’s Meet the Teacher Nights. Our educators appreciate families being involved right from the start and are looking forward to the last Meet the Teacher Nights at Fieldstone Middle School September 28 and 29 at 7PM.
As a reminder all North Rockland Schools are closed September 26 - September 27 for Rosh Hashanah. We wish all our school community members of the Jewish faith a peaceful holiday and hope everyone has a restful four day weekend. We return to school Wednesday, September 28.
Finally, NRCSD’s buildings were all filled with sparkling gold today in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The color gold represents how precious children are and the resiliency of childhood cancer heroes. I’m so proud of the effort our school community put forth to raise awareness and demonstrate support for this worthy cause. As always there’s nothing we can’t accomplish #NRTogether!
Break "Brain Balancer"
NRCSD's Social Emotional Learning Office has put together a mindfulness exercise for our school community to practice during the long weekend. Give it a try!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Erin's Law ⚖️
As parents and educators, we often do not spend enough time talking to our children about personal body safety. New York State passed the Erin Merryn Law, which requires all school districts to implement lessons that teach children about personal body safety. The purpose of this law is to protect children if approached by known or unknown individuals who intend to harm them.
Starting this school year, K-6 social workers will teach two lessons using the, “Play it Safe!” curriculum. These lessons ensure our K-6 students learn vital skills that will keep them safe. Students will learn the 3-part safety rule: Saying No!, Getting Away from Danger as Soon as They Can, and Telling a Trusted Adult.
Students in Grade 7-8 will participate in two grade-appropriate lessons in their health education classes. These lessons will teach them strategies to stay safe. If you want to learn more about Erin’s Law, please click here. Erin's Law Parent Notice.
Snow Day Policy ❄️
The New York State Department of Education ruled that School District’s are able to utilize the remote-learning technology implemented during the coronavirus pandemic to allow students to continue their studies on days when the snow is too heavy for them to commute to school. Some Districts across the state have adopted a policy that will eliminates traditional snow days all together, opting for a remote learning day During inclement weather. North Rockland will not follow suit by eliminating traditional snow days and instead will follow a plan that is very similar to the one that was followed last year. Specifics will be provided in the coming weeks.
School Breakfast/Lunch Remain Free in NR 🥪
For the past two years, every student has been eligible for free school meals, regardless of how much their parents made in Rockland County. That program expired at the end of the summer and has created confusion. In North Rockland we are proud to share that all our schools qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our dedicated Food Service Department has worked to get all our schools eligible for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the next four years.
***Each child is entitled to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch meal per day. For additional meals students are encouraged to use My School Bucks.

District Spotlight
North Rockland Went Gold 🎗️
In honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month our hallways were bold with shades of gold. Many of us in #NR unfortunately have felt or dealt with the pain of this terrible illness. In their honor, our staff and students wore gold to school today Friday September 23 in an effort to raise awareness and demonstrate support for this worthy cause.
The Gold Ribbon is the international awareness symbol of Childhood Cancer. The color gold represents how precious children are and the resiliency of childhood cancer heroes. The Pediatric Cancer Foundation hopes that going gold this month will help send a message to policymakers that pediatric cancer research deserves more funding than it currently receives. Right now, only 4% of federal funds are going toward pediatric cancer research. More photos.

Fall Sports Highlight: NRHS Girls Varsity Tennis 2022
We're sharing our team's dreams!
In North Rockland our Athletics program is more than just being part of a team. Student-athletes who participate in school sports gain important personal skills like perseverance, responsibility, physical endurance, commitment and time management. Athletics reinforces the importance of implementing healthy routines. Being a Red Raider and being part of a team teaches highschoolers that other people depend on them. Through our athletics programs our students develop the self-discipline, motivation and leadership skills that they will need to succeed on and off the field.
Over the next few weeks we are highlighting each of our fall sports teams, their coaches and their RED AND WHITE goals. First up is our Varsity Girls Tennis Team led by Head Coach Nick Teglas. Let’s make some noise for our lady Raiders!
Raider Rescue 🐾
North Rockland has partner with Hi-Tor Animal Shelter to feature one dog and one cat to help them find a loving home each week. Check out the Shelter Wish List linked here. Red Raiders to the Rescue!!!
Reese and Chai 😻
"These two lovely ladies are not related and came in almost a year apart but are the best of
friends. They comfort each other and are inseparable. Reese likes to play around until Chai
holds her down for her daily cat bath. Both are very nervous but want to be pet. Reese loves
scratches down her back and Chai enjoys a good chin scratch. Reese is a rambunctious 1 year
old and Chai is 2 years old. Chai was originally brought in as a stray with her kitten brother.
They were both adopted together but the man never came to pick Chai up. Chai loved to try and
mother the other cats so when a stray kitten came in soon after, she immediately took to her.
Reese had come in with three other siblings but was never picked because she was always
hiding behind Chai. She has since come out of her shell and loves to greet us with her cross
eyed stare and usually is sticking out her tongue. If you are interested in
adopting please fill out an application on our website Hitor.org."
Cassie 🐶
"Cassie is a beautiful white pittie who has been with us for the last year and a half. She is people friendly and loves her walks with our staff and volunteers. When she gets excited she has a cute little bunny hop that makes her even more adorable. Will you be Cassie’s happily ever after? If you are interested in adopting her please fill out an application on our website Hitor.org."
Last week's adoptable friends can be found linked here.
