RAIDERs of the Month
Congratulations to the following students whose teachers nominated them as May RAIDERs of the Month. In May, teachers focused on the I in RAIDER, which stands for Independent. The May RAIDERs of the Month are:
- Grade 6 - Layla Rebello and Brooklyn Henry
- Grade 7 - Jackson Orosco and Sophia Castro
- Grade 8 - Olivia Gonsalves and Olivia Mello
Theo Murphy, grade 8, is also pictured. His teacher team nominated him as an April RAIDER of the Month.

Show Choir Auditions - June 3rd and 5th
SBRHS Fall Cheerleading Tryouts - June 3rd and 4th
Any 8th graders who will be attending SBRHS next year and are interested in trying out for the SBRHS fall cheerleading squad, please see the information below from Coach Silva:
Tryouts for the 2025 Fall cheerleading season will be on June 3rd and June 4th from 3 pm-5 pm in the SBRHS gymnasium.
You must register on FamilyID first to be eligible to try out on June 3rd and 4th!

Grade 8 DC Trip - June 9th through 13th
The grade 8 DC trip is Monday, June 9th, through Friday, June 13th. Please see detailed information below from DC trip advisors, Ms. Cardozo and Mr. Johnson.
- This is a reminder to all students needing prescription medication during the DC trip. Please bring the medication between June 2nd and June 6th. The medication must be in a Ziploc bag with an index card containing the student's name and dosage.
- All students attending the DC trip should arrive at SMS on Monday, June 9th, between 4:45 and 5:00 am. They should be dropped off at the main office entrance and report to the cafeteria. All buses for DC will depart promptly at 5:30 am.
- Luggage should be clearly marked with the student's name and stored under the bus. Students will not have access to their luggage until they arrive at the hotel in DC. A small bag/backpack may be brought onto the bus (blanket, pillow, charging cord, money, etc.).
- The lunch stop is at the Reading Terminal in Philadelphia. This location is often crowded and tightly packed. In order to keep to the schedule, students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the many food options at https://readingterminalmarket.org/. Bus drop-off is usually on Arch Street.
Grade 8 Chromebook Collection Dates
Rising Grade 6 Step Up Day and Evening Orientation
The grade 5 step day and evening family orientation are on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Grade 5 students will visit Somerset Middle School with their teachers in the morning. During the morning session, grade 5 students will be introduced to teachers and support staff and see the sixth-grade classrooms. The schedule summary for the morning appears below:
- Fifth graders will arrive at SMS with their teachers at 9:30 am and report to the auditorium, where the administration will give a brief presentation.
- Fifth graders will be divided into groups and assigned a sixth-grade teacher to visit the sixth-grade wing and sixth-grade classroom.
- All 6th-grade teachers will provide an overview of 6th grade at SMS and have students complete the same worksheet that allows them to ask questions about middle school.
All grade 5 families are invited to visit Somerset Middle School at 6:00 pm that evening. During the evening session, grade 5 students and families will tour the building and meet with current SMS students to learn about our extracurricular activities. The schedule summary for the evening event appears below:
- The evening event will begin in the auditorium promptly at 6:00 pm. Families can enter SMS through the gym/auditorium doors on the south side of the building or the main entrance by the flagpole.
- The information from the morning presentation will be reviewed with families along with various resources to learn about Somerset Middle School.
- Current SMS students serving as SMS Mentors will lead building tours.
- Current SMS students will also be in the cafeteria and/or gymnasium to share information about the various extracurricular opportunities at SMS, such as athletics, music, and numerous clubs.
Grade 8 Promotion Ceremony - June 17th
- Due to the new auditorium's seating capacity, two promotion ceremonies will be held on the morning of Tuesday, June 17th. Each ceremony will last approximately 30 minutes.
- The Pride team ceremony is at 8:30 am. Between 8:15 and 8:30 am, the north doors by the gymnasium and auditorium will be open for families of Pride team students to access the auditorium for the ceremony.
- The Respect team ceremony is at 10:00 am. Between 9:45 and 10:00 am, the north doors by the gymnasium and the auditorium will be open for families of Respect team students to access the auditorium for the ceremony.
Last Week of School
Monday, June 16th - last full day of school for students
Tuesday, June 17th - early release day with a noon dismissal time for students
Wednesday, June 18th - early release day with a noon dismissal time for student
Thursday, June 19th - no school due to Juneteenth holiday
Friday, June 20th - last day of school and early release day with a noon dismissal time for students
Summer Reading
Fall Sports Information
Fall sports sign-ups should be completed by August 11, 2025. Please complete the appropriate Google Form linked below for the sport of interest. Students are only allowed to play one sport per season. The SMS Athletics Requirements document, including the health forms, is also linked below. Please complete and return the forms to the school nurse by August 11, 2025. The forms can also be faxed to the nurse at 888-974-8553 or emailed to tiffany.conchinha@somersetschools.org. Students will be eligible to try out once the school nurse clears them.
