Catechetical Sunday 2018
Hello everyone!
What a blessed first day we had! Thank you to all teachers and helpers for welcoming students and parents with open hearts and warm smiles. And THANK YOU GOD for the opportunity to be your witnesses to bring your children closer to you!
This year, the Church will celebrate Catechetical Sunday on September 16, 2018. The 2018 theme is "Enlisting Witnesses for Jesus Christ." This is our special day! The United States Bishop's Conference said: "Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith."
While we were all commissioned already during Mass on our first day of class, I hope that you will find some extra time this Sunday to nourish your souls so that you can bring Christ's joy to all those in our parish, especially the youth whom God has given us to share His love.
Again, thank you for answering God's call to be witnesses for Christ! You are in my prayers always.
In Christ,
Chi

What a surprise!
When the Pope welcomes you back....
When the pews are filled with youth again!
Photos from our roving photographer (a.Andrew). Thank you to c.Thao, c.Maria, c.ThuyTien, c.Kelly and all our volunteers for leading these fun team-building activities that put these smiles on the students' faces this past Sunday!
Love this tradition of welcoming our youngest students to their first GLVN mass!
Change in Ban Điều Hành (Phụng Vụ)
God has answered those prayers in many ways! First, we have a very large group of young adults who were in last year’s lớp 11 who have committed to being helpers in classes.
Secondly, he inspired a.Frank and a.Thắng to come back to GLVN to teach in classes where we needed.
And third, we were also blessed at c.Đào’s “yes” to teaching for one of our VL2 classes so that we didn't have to put 48 six year olds into a class with a.Andrew! Her experiences in education in her real job will be a wonderful thing for those students and for our program.
With this change, we are also making a small change in BĐH so that we can lighten c.Đào's load and give her more time to focus on her class, which is our greatest need.
Starting this Sunday, cô Dung will be rejoining the GLVN team as ủy viên phụng vụ. As you all know, she led phụng vụ for GLVN for many many years. So she will be a great support for our team.
Please join us in thanking c.Đào for all she has done for Phung Vu in GLVN. The success of GLVN is the result of all our prayers and collective efforts, and everything she did in phụng vụ -- preparing our readers and gift bearers, coordinating weekly reconciliations, preparing (and cleaning!) the church space for 500 of us, working with ca đoàn Seraphim and with quý Cha -- all of her hard work has been a huge part of our program's success in drawing our youth closer to Jesus. Thank you c.Đào! We know that the kids in your class will love you, and we appreciate your ongoing leadership as a teacher for our youth.
And, please join me in welcoming cô Dung back to GLVN!

Forms from Parents
Student Code of Conduct -- parents were asked to turn this in. If you receive it from your students, please leave it in your classroom mailbox, and we will pick it up.
Nametags & Lanyards & Uniforms
Also, please remind students to wear their nametags. This is part of the uniform, and it helps us address kids by name. Being able to do so makes communicating with them so much more effective.
Please also remind your students to wear their uniform shirts. They should also be wearing proper pants like jeans, slacks, etc., as their Sunday best. Tennis shoes are preferred as well.
Here's a little blurb about why uniforms are so important (borrowed from TNTT):
"Đồng phục nói lên vẻ đẹp đồng nhất và tinh thần đồng đội bề ngoài, và tinh thần kỷ luật, vâng lời bên trong. Do đó, mọi thành viên luôn luôn cố gắng có đồng phục chỉnh tề và đúng cách."
"Uniforms signify unity, teamwork, and the spirit of discipline and obedience. Therefore, every member should always try to have the correct uniform."
Weekly Rosary for GLVN
On Sundays where we have the teacher meetings, we will close out our meetings praying a decade of the rosary together :-)
Thank you Cô Trang for the wonderful idea!
A Catechist’s Prayer
All-School Prayer to Our Patron Saint
Amen.
St. Thomas Aquinas Daily Prayer
Grant me, O Lord my God, a mind to know you, a heart to seek you, wisdom to find you, conduct pleasing to you, faithful perseverance in waiting for you, and a hope of finally embracing you. Amen.
Here's a link to the prayer if you want to print it out for your students.
Classroom Patron Saints
The Saint for your class was chosen because of their unique stories, lives and virtues that we thought were relevant and perfect for your students' ages. Here's a list of the prayers to your patron Saints. Please pray it with your students each week, and take time to find other info about your Saint to share with your students throughout the year. This is a really great resource for information about the Saints: http://www.catholic.org/saints/
A Teacher's Prayer for Their Students
In addition, here is a link to the prayer for your students that we used during our teacher workshop. I hope that you found the prayer a powerful time with your class teaching team to offer up your students by name to God. As a teaching team, we encourage you to gather together to pray this every once in awhile together. (A reminder that we have small prayer rooms on the upper level that can fit the teachers/helpers in for quiet prayer time if you are looking for a good space to go to pray! There are crosses/statues, holy water fonts, kneelers, and comfy seating in these reflection rooms!)
Important GLVN Documents & Forms
