NURSERY ROAD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - ARTS MAGNET
A Message from the Principal
Dear Nursery Road Families,
As we enter October, our thoughts are with those still without power and families in need after Hurricane Helene. In this time of recovery, may we be reminded of the importance of community care, both in our schools and beyond.
October is National Bullying Awareness Month—a perfect opportunity to teach our children the value of kindness, empathy, and helping others. Let’s take this call to action, not just in response to natural disasters, but in our everyday conversations, schools, and neighborhoods.
Together, we can make a difference.
With care,
Karey Fisher

Notes from Nurse Utter
It is time for D5's student health screenings. District nurses and staff from Healthy Learners will conduct the screenings, and schedules have been devised to keep classroom disruption to a minimum. Screenings will be completed in one day and we request that each student make an extra effort to be in attendance on that day. Screenings will be held on Wednesday, October 16th at Nursery Road Elementary School.
Our school screening program is provided to find children with untreated vision and hearing problems. Such problems may make it hard for children to grow and learn. If your child does not meet district guidelines for passing one of the screenings, we will let you know and ask that you have your child checked by a physician or a healthcare specialist. School screenings are not meant to take the place of an examination by your child's health care provider. Continue to take your child for regularly scheduled visits with his/her health care provider. If your child wears glasses or contact lenses, please have them wear them to school on the day of screening. If you do not want your child/children to be screened at school, please contact Allyson Utter, RN -School Nurse at 803-476-4309.
A breakdown of screening service by grade level is:
4K All students - vision and hearing
5K All students - vision and hearing
Grade 1 All students - vision and hearing
Grade 2 Students new to District 5 - vision and hearing
Grade 3 All students - vision and hearing
Grade 4 Students new to District 5 - vision and hearing
Grade 5 All students - vision; new to District 5 - vision and hearing

Jeremiah Strong - In Our Nursery Road Family, No One Fights Alone
On Friday, September 30, we had the special opportunity to show our love and support for one of our own, Jeremiah Ambrose, as he prepared to leave for St. Jude’s Hospital. Jeremiah and his family appreciated the kind messages, thoughts and well wishes. Jeremiah's favorite neighborhood superhero, Spider-Man, showed up to spin some spirit at the send off.
There is a mailbox in the Front Office to receive Jeremiah mail that will be sent to him as he loves receiving mail. Feel free to contact Ms. Fisher if there are any questions. Thank you for your support and for being part of this caring community.
