PRINCIPAL'S UPDATE
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
As the colder days roll in, we’d like to remind you of a few tips to help keep everyone warm and safe! 🧥 Please remember to dress your child in layers and make sure they’re ready to enjoy the outdoors. We’ll be heading outside for recess as long as it’s above 20°F and not pouring rain. Hats, gloves, and cozy jackets will help them stay comfortable while they play. 🌬️
When we experience extreme weather, we’ll move to an “indoor arrival” 🌨️. This means students will enter through the front doors and wait inside during our arrival window from 8:20-8:35 a.m. If it looks like an indoor arrival day, we’ll do our best to notify you by 8:00 a.m. through text and email. Please keep an eye out on those chilly mornings so you’re in the loop! 📲
And lastly, a friendly reminder about our Hug and Go lane 🚗💨: This lane is for drop-offs only, and no parking is allowed in front of the school. Please use the right lane, pull up as far as you can, and let your child out on the passenger side for safety. The left lane is for driving through, so please avoid stopping there. If you’d prefer to park and walk your child in, feel free to use our parking lot or Clover Basin Drive. Thank you for helping us keep the morning drop-off safe and efficient! 🙏
Warmly,
Amanda

DEAN OF STUDENTS' UPDATE
Hello Eagle Crest Families!
Thank you for helping us navigate our first practice of preparing for an Inclement Weather Online Learning Day earlier this week! As many of you know, Colorado weather can be unpredictable, and we want to ensure we’re always prepared. Our goal is to prioritize safety and maintain consistent learning for all students, which is why we are sending iPads home again today.
Whenever your child brings home their iPad, please know this is only a precaution to make sure everyone is ready for remote learning if needed. We will communicate any final decisions regarding school closures or online learning days via phone, text, email, the district website, and local news stations. If you do not receive a notification about an Inclement Weather Online Learning Day, we will proceed with in-person school as usual the following day.
Please remind your child to bring their iPad back to school each day it comes home. We rely on these devices to support classroom learning, and having them returned promptly helps keep everyone on track.
Thank you for your support and flexibility as we work together to keep students safe and engaged, no matter the weather!
All the best,
Lindsey Cheney
Dean of Students
Eagle Crest Elementary

MWEBAZA FOUNDATION: UPDATE FROM OUR UGANDA PARTNER SCHOOLS
Did you know that Eagle Crest has a partnership with a school in Uganda?!
The Mwebaza Foundation is an educational organization that partners schools in Colorado with schools in Uganda. Interested in learning more? Check out their website: https://www.mwebaza.org/
Last spring two of our Uganda partner schools received a grant from an organization called African Library Project https://www.africanlibraryproject.org/. Both schools, Mwebaza Annex and St. Paul Primary, received books to start a small school library. The books came with a library training for all teachers on how to successfully run a small school library. In May, 2024 the teachers attended the training and also received their boxes of books. Our Colorado partner school clubs hosted fundraising events to support the start up of these libraries. The money raised was used by both schools to send their teachers to the training and bring their books back to school, as well as build bookshelves, tables, and chairs for their library space. These funds also provided the materials used to label books and organize them on the shelves, as well as the purchase of small bags for students to carry their books home through the check out system.
When the Mwebaza Foundation staff and volunteers arrived in Uganda last June they were able to work alongside the teachers to plan the library systems and get them up and running. It was wonderful to see how excited the students were when they unpacked and began looking at and reading the books. Equally important was that the teachers now had many books to enjoy reading to students of all ages.
Parents: Did you know that the 2nd largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Victoria, borders Uganda to the south?
Ask your student:
What kind of jobs do you think people could have if they lived next to Lake Victoria?
Why do you think having a school library would be important?
What have you learned about life in Uganda?
What are some foods they eat in Uganda that are the same as foods we eat?
Can you think of a fruit that is grown in Uganda but not in Colorado?
Why do you think we can’t grow that fruit in Colorado?
(if you want to share the answers you get please send them to hillari@mwebaza.org)
