District 30 Board Brief
February 20 - Board of Education Meeting Summary
Partnering with you to support students
Dear District 30 Community,
This month's Board of Education meeting started the first of our three annual school presentations, with Wescott reporting on its progress toward School Improvement Goals in 2024-25. Next week is also a critical progress check-in for your own student, with Parent-Teacher Conferences set for Wednesday evening and all day Thursday, with both in-person and virtual conferences offered.
As educators, we deeply value this opportunity to continue our student-centered partnership with you. (A key priority of our Strategic Plan.)
That is why we dedicate such a significant amount of our school week to the effort. We see these conferences as a worthwhile investment that help us collaborate with you to ensure your student is growing academically, emotionally and socially.
I also thank you for taking the time out of your hectic week to make conferences a priority. We see over and over again that parent involvement at home benefits students tremendously. Your work to support your child and partner with us is invaluable toward helping them reach their greatest potential!
Sincerely,
Dr. Emily K. Tammaru
Superintendent of Schools

Enrollment and staffing update
Dr. Tammaru shared that that District 30 currently has all open positions posted, with nearly all as part of the District's strategic staffing plan. Many highly qualified candidates have applied and are currently being screened, while Human Resources will also be recruiting at education job fairs next month.
Registration for 2025-26 school year
District 30 is seeing a higher rate of early enrollment for the 2025-26 school year compared to the previous year, Dr. Tammaru shared. Staffing plans are structured to accommodate this growth. She stated that District 30 will continue to monitor enrollment trends, especially as registration opens following spring break.
Additionally, Dr. Tammaru noted that Summer School registration is open and already has 329 students registered. She congratulated Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Melissa Hirsch, and her summer school team for maintaining a rich program. "This is a joyful addition to our students' summer as an enrichment program, where they get to explore so many wonderful subjects," Dr.Tammaru added.
2023-24 Annual Report
In additional comments, Dr. Tammaru detailed thee 2023-24 Annual Report that was mailed to all households in the district. This document aims especially to reach the nearly 70 percent of residents who do not have children in our schools, so they can understand how their tax dollars are being spent and how District 30 is working to benefit our students and their families, as well as our community at large.
