National Honor Society
The National Honor Society is a national high school organization that MVHS students can apply to if they have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher. This society meets once a month and are leaders on campus with a focus on demonstrating good character in and out of class as well as doing service projects on and off campus. Students pay $10 yearly in dues, complete 40 hours of community service each year and can lead a project their senior year to earn a graduation cord. We host social events and guest-speakers at our meetings as well as celebrate college and scholarship applications and acceptances.
Students can apply to join the 2025-2026 National Honor Society on the attached google form (using your student email and chromebook) by May 2nd, 2025.
All current 9th-11th graders are eligible with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at the end of Semester 1 (January 2025).
Please contact Mrs. Wright at kwright@mvsd320.org if you have any more questions.
From the desk of Assistant Principals and Dean of Students:
Supporting Your Student's Success – Academic Support Opportunities
Dear Families,
We hope this message finds you well. As we approach the end of the third term, we want to ensure that every student has the opportunity and support they need to earn their credits and progress toward graduation.
On April 21, 2025, third-term grades for the second semester will be posted. As of last Friday, your student has not passed one or more of their courses. While there is still time to improve these grades with additional assignments and assessments, we want to make you aware of your student's current standing and share the resources available to support their success.
To better serve our students, we are organizing support into three focused groups:
Group 1:
Students who are currently failing 1–3 courses.
Group 2:
Students who are failing 1–3 core courses (such as Algebra B, English B, Environmental Science B, or Biology B) and also failed the A-section of the same courses earlier in the year. These students may still earn credit for the A-section through what’s known as Mastery Credit if they pass the B-section this semester.
Group 3:
Multilingual Learners who are struggling in general education courses. These students will receive additional language support and help with both Mastery Credit courses and others, such as Social Studies or Career and Technical Education (CTE).
Weekly Academic Support Schedule:
Mondays – English, Social Studies, Spanish in the Library
Tuesdays – Science in the Library
Wednesdays – CTE (computer labs) and PE (gym) (non-early release days only)
Thursdays – Math (assigned classrooms)
On Mondays and Tuesdays, our support team includes subject teachers, English Language Acquisition (ELA) teachers, administrators, and our Bulldog Edge Coordinator. Support runs until 4:00 PM. Students will be picked up from their last class by school staff and dropped off at their after-school support location.
On Wednesdays, students will receive 30 minutes of targeted support after school.
On Thursdays, students will receive help with math, including opportunities to complete makeup tests, receive tutoring, and get assistance with assignments. Support is available until 4:00 PM.
Transportation home is provided at 4:00 PM Monday through Thursday for students attending the support sessions.
Important Notes:
If your student is invited to attend this support program but you feel this is not the right time, you may request to opt out by emailing Ms. Kirkpatrick at kkirkpatrick@mvsd320.org.
If we do not receive a request to opt out, your student’s attendance is required.
We understand that students may occasionally have appointments. Just keep us informed.
Mastery Credit Students:
Students who are eligible to earn Mastery Credit will meet with the 9th-grade administrator on April 17 and 18. They will be expected to attend the library support sessions independently on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for Math support. Attendance will be tracked by Ms. Sosa, our Bulldog Edge Coordinator, and families will receive a weekly attendance report every Friday via email. As soon as your student attains a C, the student will not need to attend the program unless they want to.
We encourage families to log in to Skyward twice a week to check grades and missing assignments. Please also ask your student to review their academic progress with you regularly.
Our entire team is here to support your student, and we truly believe that with the right tools, structure, and encouragement, every student can achieve success.
Thank you for partnering with us to help your student stay on track. Please reach out with any questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Dr. Giovanna San Martin
MVHS VP & 9th Grade Administrator
P.S. You can see the after-school attendance form below.

Canvas
https://www.mountvernonschools.org/node/995
What is Canvas
We are excited to have deployed Canvas to secondary students as our new learning management system. Canvas will act as a central location for communication, coursework, assignments, and grades. As a parent, you play an essential role in your student’s education, and Canvas will provide you with the ability to stay informed and engaged in their learning.
How to get Connected
- You will receive an email titled “Finish Registration: Canvas” from Canvas at the email address registered in Skyward. Please check your spam/junk folder if you do not see the email.
- The email will provide you with steps to get logged in with your new Canvas Parent account.
- If you do not receive the communication, your email in Skyward may need to be updated. Please reach out to your student’s school front office, and they will assist you in updating your information.
Alternative Pathway to get Connected
If you are unable to access your Canvas parent account through the email invitation, you can create an account using a pairing code provided by your student.
To Create an Account Using a Pairing Code:
- Have your student log into Canvas.
- Click on Account > Settings.
- Select “Pair with Observer” to generate a unique code.
- Use the code to create a parent account by visiting https://mvsd.instructure.com/login/canvas and selecting “Parent of a Canvas User? Click Here for an Account.”
Already Using Canvas?
If you’re already set up with Canvas in the Mount Vernon School District, you shouldn’t experience any changes as we continue our implementation.

MVHS Closed Campus Policy
What Does the Closed Campus Policy Mean?
In line with Mount Vernon School District Board Policy 3242, students are required to remain on campus from the time they arrive until the end of the school day, including during lunch. As a reminder, this policy has always been in effect and is supported by RCW 28A.225.010, which mandates student attendance throughout the school day.
Exceptions:
- If a student needs to leave campus for a valid reason, such as a medical appointment, a parent or guardian must notify the school office in advance.
- Only those students with prior administrative or parental permission will be excused from the campus during school hours.
Consequences for Violations:
- Students who leave campus without permission will receive a Saturday School.
- Repeated violations will result in escalating disciplinary actions, including suspension.
How You Can Help:
- Reinforce the policy at home: Please discuss with your child the importance of staying on campus during the school day and the potential consequences of leaving without permission.
- Plan ahead: If your child has an appointment or another reason to leave campus, notify the school office ahead of time to avoid any confusion or disciplinary issues.
This policy is crucial in creating a safe, structured environment where students can focus on their education. Your support in communicating and upholding this policy is key to its success.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a safe and positive school environment for all students.
