National Poetry Month
It's National Poetry Month - so thought I would share two of my favorites from Dr. Seuss' Oh, the Places You'll Go:
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy who'll decide where to go.
AND
You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So get on your way!
Happy Passover to all who are celebrating.
Yours in Education,
Michael Ben-David J.D./M.Ed.

Mackay's International Week - South Korea Focus
Mackay School kicked off this year's International Week with a journey to South Korea that included kimbap-making, food tasting, and more. The week ended with a Share-a-Culture event that featured hands-on activities from many countries. Special thanks to Mackay's International Week Committee and the school's amazing parent volunteers!
Smith School Takes Action with Snack Pack Event
Since 2009, the Center for Food Action's Snack Pack Program is designed to help fill the food gap when free or reduce-priced school meals are not available. Last week, Smith School's students lined up to prepare 500 snack packs to be given out to students in neighboring districts to take home. The food that is supplied is nutritious, and everyone felt good about helping out others in need.
What A World!
In honor of Earth Day, and thanks to their HSA, Maugham's students had the opportunity to experience The Earth Dome, a gigantic inflatable earth balloon standing 19 feet high and 22 feet in diameter (see top of newsletter image). Our tour guide took each grade around and inside the globe while discussing the continents, time zones, latitude, longitude, and even various languages. What a fun way to see the world!
Science Stars On the Rise
This year, our THS Science Research and Olympiad students have earned multiple medals across the competition circuit. Most recently, the Science Researcher’s group have successfully competed at this year’s Terra Northern Jersey Science Fair (TNJSF), where they earned several awards (see press release HERE).
Special congratulations to Elliott Yoon, THS senior, who has been selected to represent his school and TNJSF - for the second year in a row - at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles, California beginning May 11, 2024. His first place award at TNJSF - in the category of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology - earned him an all-expenses paid trip as he will compete with other Regeneron ISEF finalists for awards, prizes, and scholarships. Let's go Elliott!
Earth Day Planting
It's important that we all do our part to take care of our planet, and learning to garden is a great way to start!
Last Friday, as part of their Earth Day celebration, Stillman School's students helped to plant flowers outside of the school - facing Tenafly Road - and now they are just waiting to watch them grow!
TMS Chinese Speech contest winners
Our TMS students once again performed very well in this year's National Chinese Speech Competition:
- 1st place - Middle School division - Isabella Rainone, grade 7
- 3rd place - Middle School division - Hannah Lee, grade 8
- Honorable mention - Kaylee Jui, grade 6
And special thanks to Ms. Coleman, who continues to lead her Chinese language program students towards success!
THS Lacrosse Players Reach 100
Congratulations to Tenafly Boys Lacrosse Senior Captain Dylan Reichel (#24) on achieving his 100th career goal - only the second player in Tenafly Lacrosse history to reach that mark - and Senior Captain Cooper Roberts (#1) on each achieving 100 points which took place during the team's win versus Ramapo. This year's team is off to a very strong start! Go Tigers!
