Dear ChurchillCSD Families & Staff,
We’re kicking off another great week as we move closer to Spring Break. A huge shoutout to Numa Elementary for completing their SBAC testing last week! Students, keep up the hard work, stay focused, and keep pushing forward. We’re only three weeks away from a well-deserved break!
March Madness is in full swing, not just on the court but across the district! There’s been some fun and friendly competition among district office staff and school staff. Numa even hosted a special March Madness basketball tournament between staff and students - head over to their Facebook page to catch some great photos of the All-Star game and a video of Principal Shawn Purrell sinking a 3-pointer!
With March winding down and April just around the corner, we look forward to warmer weather and a strong finish to the 2024-25 school year. Let’s keep up the momentum through state testing and make it a great week!
Regards,
Derild Parsons

Attendance Reminder for Families ✅
We'd like to emphasize our attendance policies and procedures.
ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES
EXCUSED does not equal EXEMPT! (State Law NRS 392.130)
Please note that any absence not excused by a medical/mental health professional or a school administrator will be counted against the student's attendance as per Nevada state attendance law.
Any absence that goes unreported by the parent will default to a truancy after three days.
Excused = NOT EXEMPT (counted against student's attendance).
Exempt = Medical Professional note provided or School Admin Excused (not counted against student attendance).
Notification: Schools may notify families of any concerning patterns associated with excessive absences; including but not limited to notes home, School Attendance Review Board (SARB) warnings, pre-SARB notices, and SARB attendance contracts.
Missing School for Illness?
Please remember to call your child’s school every day that they miss school due to an illness so the office staff can excuse them.
As stated above - EXCUSED does not equal EXEMPT (State Law NRS 392.130). Any absence not excused by a medical professional will count against the student's attendance as per Nevada state attendance law.
Excused = NOT EXEMPT (counted against student's attendance).

E.C. Best Elementary School 💙🐶
Last week, the E.C. Best Spring Jamboree Family Night brought together students and their families for an evening of fun, games, and delicious treats. The event offered a variety of activities, including a book fair, a carnival hosted by the CCHS Volunteer Club, and free hot dogs, popcorn, and caramel apples. Students from CCHS played a significant role in making the event such a success. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the CCHS Volunteer Club, the CCHS Mentor Club, and CCHS ROTC students, along with Sara McGowan and Heather Benjamin for all their help. It was wonderful to see our high school students giving their time and energy to make this event a success. Their dedication to serving our young students was truly inspiring! The Spring Jamboree was an excellent opportunity for families to come together and enjoy the evening with ECB staff, while also highlighting the efforts of some remarkable students from CCHS.
Lahontan Elementary School 🤍🐺
Students in Amy Hawkins’ class celebrated St. Patrick’s Day last week with a day full of surprises. The morning began with students coming in to quiet the mess in their classroom made by one sneaky leprechaun. After cleaning up what they could, they got to work creating colorful rainbows and writing poems inspired by the rainbows they made. For math, they enjoyed a sweet treat while graphing Lucky Charms marshmallows. Students ended the day with shamrock-shaped cookies. It was a fun and festive day of learning, laughter, and leprechaun mischief.

LICE
We are all excited to be back at school! As we encourage children to learn and share, they also share things we don't want them to: Head Lice! We start seeing a lot of lice outbreaks at our schools this time of year. Please click the link below to learn how to identify lice and for information on what you can do if lice hits your home.
Bed Bugs
Winter seasonal changes bring about infestations and household inconveniences.
Bed bugs are a nuisance, but they are not known to cause or spread disease. They are usually
active at night and can irritate the human skin. The bite is initially painless, but it may become
swollen and itch, much like a mosquito bite.
The source of bed bugs often cannot be determined, as they may be found in many places,
including hotels, hospitals, theaters and schools. Finding a bed bug does not mean that the
building is infested. Adults & children can unknowingly bring bed bugs into buildings,
including schools. In response to this seasonal concern, Churchill County School District
continually works to identify pests, provide inspections of schools and have licensed pest
control specialists treat classrooms and schools as appropriate.
If you have experienced bedbugs in your home, we strongly recommend seeking professional
assistance from a qualified pest control company. If your child has any bites, you should contact your health care provider.
Further information on preventing bed bugs are available on the following website.
