Let's work together to meet the urgent needs in the Hughes Community!
Due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene, the need for assistance has grown significantly. The PTSA helps provide food and hygiene items throughout the year for families experiencing food insecurity. Help stock the shelves by bringing the following items:
INDIVIDUAL CUPS OF FRUIT
INDIVIDUAL CUPS OF APPLESAUCE
INDIVIDUAL CUPS OF MAC AND CHEESE
FULL-SIZE TOOTHPASTE
FULL-SIZE DEODORANT (no spray)
NEW ADULT SOCKS (men or women)
Please donate ONLY the items listed. Items will be collected as students enter school on October 28-30. Thank you for being a part of One Team, One Hughes!
Hughes T-Shirt Design Contest
Calling all student artists! Hughes PTSA is looking for a new T-shirt design to be sold during the winter apparel sale. A committee of faculty and parents will select the top submissions that will then be voted on by Hughes students. The winner will receive a free t-shirt and be allowed to wear it on a special non-dress down day before it is released to the public. Submission rules are listed on the flyer. Deadline for submissions is November 15.
We need your help, Hughes Volunteers! There are several ways to get involved throughout the year. See what's needed below or click the sign up links for more details:
COUGAR SHACK EVERY FRIDAY! Look for all your favorite treats! Everything is priced at $1 or $2. We cannot accept bills larger than a $20 bill or smaller than a quarter. Exact change is always appreciated!

National Principals Month
Mr. Adrian Mayes is the heartbeat of Hughes Academy, bringing boundless energy and passion to everything he does. 8th Grade News
8th grade student who signed up for PSAT/NMSQT will test on October 29th. Testers will need to be at school by 8:30 that day. The test lasts until approximately 12:00pm. Testers have been shown how to access practice tests and test information. Individual Graduation Plan Meetings (IGPs) are under way for 8th grade students. The State of South Carolina requires this meeting for all 8th grade students. The meetings cover future career and education plans for students as they enter high school. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend. If a parent does not know their 8th grader’s scheduled time, please contact Amy Torlay, 864-355-6255 or actorlay@greenville.k12.sc.us.
Greenville County Schools Clear Bag Policy and Student Supervision
Please follow the rules of the Greenville County Schools Clear Bag Policy at all sporting events at Hughes Academy.
ALL students must come with an adult 19 or older. No student should be “dropped off” or unattended at any sporting/after-school events. They must be accompanied by an adult.
8th Grade Field Trip Information
The 8th grade field trip will be at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, TN on May 21, 2025. To reserve a spot on the trip, students must make at $25 deposit at www.orangeskytravel.com by September 20, 2024. We can't wait to see the creative writing, poetry, short stories, journalism, and art your students will share with us this year. Extended Day Program Registration Information
Hughes Academy offers an Extended Day Program (EDP). It begins at 3:45 pm and ends at 6:00 pm. Snacks, homework time, and playtime are offered. There is a $40.00 registration fee per family.
