WHPE Update November, 2022
"Good to Grow
Good to Grow
Greetings WHPE members,
Hopefully you had the weekend to rest and recover after attending this year's convention. Even though your motivation and excitement level may have tempered, now is the time to put what you learned into action. You owe it to yourself and your students to use what you have just learned to grow and improve. It's good to grow!
Here are 7 things to consider doing after convention:
1) Say thank you! If you were lucky enough to be allowed to attend convention and to have a sub available in your absence, give thanks. You truly have something to be thankful for, not everyone was afforded this luxury. If your convention registration/hotel was paid for by your district/university show an attitude of gratitude in a written note to your school board/administration/ business office/dean. Perfect for the month of November!
2) Build your connections! Networking is crucial and one of the main reasons people go to convention. Who did you connect with and how are you going to keep in touch with them? Email? Social Media?
3) Put your new found knowledge into action! Did you find a new warm up activity/game/ health lesson? Take what you learned and put it to use in the upcoming weeks so that it sticks in your memory. Neurons that fire together wire together. So fire up those new ideas and put them into practice.
4) Provide Feedback! Did you like a particular session? Reach out to the presenter and let them know how you are going to utilize their material. Every conference wants your feedback. Take the time to fill out the convention survey. Feedback matters! It is necessary for growth.
5) Share your knowledge! Was everyone in your department able to attend WHPE? Share your 3 main take aways within your department or in the upcoming WHPE newsletter. These little acts have an impact on the learning of others as well as your own.
6) Take time to reflect! Understand the What, Why, and How of your lesson so that you can infuse your new learning. Take the time to reflect on how your new knowledge might change your current practice. Reflection is the key to learning and growing.
7) Keep learning! Did you hear about Mindful PE for the first time? New to skills based health?
Do some research on your own, find a mentor, sign up for more professional development.
Looking forward to learning and growing with you the next two years.
Thank you for being a part of WHPE.

2022 WHPE Convention
I hope you had a fabulous time at this years convention. I enjoyed the timely message Jamie Sparks delivered in his keynote. The lip sync's were amazing and can you really say you are from WI if you don't jump around?
Please take the time to fill out the participants survey. It can be found in the EduPlus app and also will arrive in your email shortly. Keep an eye out for it. What you have to say is important to our planning of future conventions.
Every time I attend a professional development my goal is to find one take away that I can utilize in my classroom shortly after convention.
My personal take away came from @thepeheteacher
In the SEL session We and Me cards were used as a way to go beyond an icebreaker and truly connect with students. Check them out here.

I hope you found your take away and please consider sharing it in our upcoming newsletter.
