Red Ribbon Week
At Martinez, we want the future of all our little mariposas to be Drug Free. To build awareness about staying away from drugs we will celebrate the Red Ribbon Week.
- Monday 10/28 - We will wear RED to kick off Red Ribbon Week.
- Tuesday 10/29 - Wear your craziest hair and socks to be drug free from head to toe.
- Wednesday 10/30 - Dress up as a book character with your classroom theme because drugs are not in our character.
- Thursday 10/31 - Wear camouflage attire so drugs can't find you. No Halloween costumes, camouflage only.
- Friday 11/1- Wear pajamas to follow your dreams drug free.
Each classroom has a theme for Book Character Day. Expect communication from your child's teacher about the theme for the classroom and suggestions in how to dress up your child for the day. We will also have a character parade on Wednesday 10/30. Students will have a chance to show their character costume and see the customs of others. This parade will be recorded to share with our families. Unfortunately, we do not have space to have all our families come to see the parade live.
Book Character Night
On Wednesday October 30 we will have our book character night. The event will be from 5:00 to 6:00pm. We encourage children to come dressed up for this celebration of literacy. The event will be indoors so we can make sure the weather will not be a problem. We will have fundraiser through face painting for $3, and pizza slices to go for $3. We would love to see all our families in this night to celebrate our love for books and stories. Students may dress up in the costume different from their classroom theme. We require that costumes are not scary, include no mask and no weapons.
Your Child's Birthday in the Marquee
You can celebrate your child's birthday on the school's marquee. For $20 you can have your child's birthday announced for a week for everybody to see. You can pay directly in School Cash Online using this link https://aliefisd.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/206405/46610/False/False

The shirt has a cost of $20 dollars and is one of the ways we raise funds for our student fund. We appreciate your support buying the shirt.
Attendance Reminders
Things to remember about attendance procedures at our school:
1) School starts at 8:15 a.m.—students who are not in class at this time are considered tardy. Students who are 30 or more minutes tardy, will be considered as a “POD30”, which is a part-of-day attendance violation.
2) The official attendance time to determine if a student is absent or present for the day is 10:00 a.m., students must be on campus at this time.
3) Dismissal is at 3:40 p.m.—students may not be released after 2:30 p.m. because dismissal procedures will have already started.
4) Students who are picked up before dismissal time will be considered as an “early leave”, which is a part-of-day attendance violation.
5) Excuse notes for absences must be returned no later than 3 days after returning to school.
6) Only 10 parent excuse notes will be allowed per year, without extenuating circumstances.
7) Only 10 doctor/clinic/nurse excuse notes will be allowed per year, without a medical need documented by your doctor and verified by the school nurse.
