Panther Family Connect
September 30, 2022
From our Principal
Snohomish High School Parents, Families, and Community,
Greetings from Snohomish High School! We are about one month into the school year, and it has been a terrific start. I’ve been impressed with the students at SHS. The vast majority come to school each day with a smile on their face and a strong desire to learn. Our students have been kind and polite to each other and to staff members.
Our staff has done a great job of setting a positive tone for the school year. Teachers are establishing norms and expectations in their classrooms which allow students to learn to their potential. We hope that parents will play a role by checking in on your student’s progress through Skyward Family Access. Teachers will be updating grades every few weeks so we can monitor progress and offer academic interventions when needed. We have Panther Period four days a week this year, and this is a good time for students to get extra help in the classes where they need it most.
Next week is Homecoming Week at SHS! Homecoming is a special time to bring our school, alumni, and community together. Our ASB Leadership has done an excellent job planning activities and events, and we encourage everyone to get involved. One of the favorite homecoming traditions at SHS is the Serpentine Parade. The parade is Friday, October 7, beginning at 10:45 a.m. The Serpentine has been a tradition at SHS since 1958! The best place to view the parade is downtown on 1st Street, and we’d love to see families and the community out. If you are downtown, it would be great if you could support our local businesses! In addition, all SHS alumni are invited to a reception on Friday, October 7, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the south end of “A” Building at the Alumni Plaza. The football game, and all the festivities around that, starts at 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium. We hope to see many of you next week!
Go Panthers!

Senior Information-Class of 2023
College & Career Center
FAFSA and WASFA
Seniors, the best place to start when you are looking for money for college, tech school or trade school, is by filling out the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA, for undocumented and select non-citizens). This is the only way you can apply for federal or state financial aid. The information from these applications will be shared with the colleges you apply to and will determine your eligibility for financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships, work study programs and federal student/parent loans. Both applications open on October 1!
Financial Aid Information and Events:
- 12th Year Campaign Financial Aid Information and FAFSA/WASFA Filing Assistance Events Calendar (In person & Zoom)
- Everett Community College Financial Aid Workshop, October 15th, 10 AM to 12 PM, Gray Wolf Hall
- SHS Financial Aid Completion Night (Drop in FAFSA & WASFA help), November 3, 6-8 p.m. More information to come!
For more information on Financial Aid, visit the SHS College & Career Center Financial Aid webpage.
College Visits
College visits are now happening in-person in the SHS College & Career Center (B208), during Panther Period and afterschool. A college visit at SHS is a great way to learn about colleges you might be interested in. During a college visit, students can find out about the college application process, what campus life it like, available scholarships and what to expect as a freshman. By attending a college visit, you are not committed to the school. Check out the College Visit Calendar! No signup required.
College Application Deadlines
Seniors - if you plan on attending a four-year college or university, please visit the college websites for all the colleges you plan on applying to and find the application deadline and the scholarship application deadline (if they have a separate scholarship application). Early Washington college application deadlines include University of Washington, Seattle…November 15; Northwest University, Kirkland…November 15; Gonzaga University, Spokane…December 1. Application Fees and Deadlines for Washington Colleges and Universities.
Seniors, if you are in need of a letter of recommendation, please fill out the Letter of Recommendation Fillable form, save it, print and provide it to the person writing the letter.
Work Site Learning Event
Students that are 16 years or older and are currently employed, can earn credit for working at their job by signing up for Work Site Learning and tracking their hours at work. Eligible students can earn up to 1.0 high school credits in CTE or Electives. Students can learn more and apply at the event on October 5th during Panther Period in the SHS Library computer lab.

National Merit Scholarship
Please join us in congratulating SHS Senior, Lucas Haney who is one of about 16,000 National
Merit Scholarship Semifinalists. Lucas qualified based on scores in the previous year’s
Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The nationwide pool of
Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the
highest-scoring entrants in each state. Lucas will have the opportunity to continue in the
competition for a National Merit Scholarship which will be awarded in the Spring.
We would also like to recognize Ella Molsee and Cassidy O'Neill who have earned Letters of
Commendation in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended
Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise.
Although they will not continue in the 2023 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards,
Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023
competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
(PSAT/NMSQT).
