A Message from Principal Cutone
November 8, 2024
Dear HES Families and Caregivers,
Thank you so much for your generous support of our annual Veterans' Basket Drive! This cherished tradition allows us to partner with Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops, helping our students make a positive impact in the community. Thanks to our Sharks’ efforts, we collected enough food to fill 42 turkey pans! With additional donations, we were also able to purchase grocery gift cards for each basket, providing even more help for local veterans and their families. Service projects like these help us teach our Sharks about the importance of community involvement and citizenship.
As we continue into this season of giving, we’d also like to let you know that a local agency has generously offered to provide non-perishable items and gift cards to HES families in need of holiday meal assistance. If your family could use this support, please feel free to reach out confidentially to our HES administration or counseling team.
Next week, we are thrilled to welcome you to our fall Book Fair—a favorite event for students, staff, and families alike! In addition to our after-school Family Shopping time on Thursday, caregivers and siblings are welcome to join your Shark’s class for in-school shopping. Please check the schedule below for the specific shopping times for each class. Remember, all volunteers must have a current CORI, so be sure to apply if you haven’t already.
On Monday, our school will be closed in honor of Veterans’ Day. Please join us in extending our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have served in the armed forces to protect our freedoms.
Wishing you a wonderful long weekend!
All my best,
Christie

Call the Attendance Line If Your Shark Is Absent
Per the handbook, if your child is unable to attend school, please enter the absence in PickUp Patrol and/or call our designated attendance line, 617-848-0115, as early as possible. Soon after arrival, our office staff begins to call the caregivers of absent students if we haven't already heard from them. This is important, as we want to ensure that all students are safe. Your phone message with the reason for the absence is all we need. While an email to the teacher is helpful, it sometimes doesn't make its way to the office staff. Thank you for your help!

Harwich Elementary School Council
We look to build a strong School Council this year to guide our important work. A School Council is a representative, school building-based committee that meets quarterly and is composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members, and students. School Councils are tasked to assist principals in:
Adopting educational goals for the school that are consistent with local educational policies and statewide student performance standards
Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
Reviewing the annual school building budget
Formulating a school improvement plan
Reviewing the student handbook
If you are interested please send an email message to principal Christie Cutone at ccutone@monomoy.edu indicating your interest in serving on the school council.
