Veterans Visits
On Friday, November 8, KJHS welcomed nearly 20 Veterans into our building to speak with our students and share stories about their time in the service. We offer a heartfelt thank you to those who took time out of their day to come engage with our kids. Special thanks to Mrs. McGuire (our own vet right here in the building) for organizing and planning this event every year. To all of the Veterans who came in, and to Veterans everywhere, THANK YOU for your service!

Positive Office Referrals
Students at KJHS are recognized in their classrooms for being positive, respectful, responsible, hard-working, organized, and/or selfless. Students receive a positive office referral that they fill out and turn in. Each week, we draw names from these during lunch and students receive a small prize (popsicle, candy, trinkets, etc.). To date for 2nd quarter, over 100 students at KJHS have already earned a positive office referral. Keep doing wonderful things kids!!
7th Grade Science
From Mrs. Lester - "Students used a remote control car to explore the importance of reference points while learning how to describe motion."

KJHS Boys Basketball season is off and running. Both teams are 2-0 with wins over Costa and United to start the year. We have one more week of non-conference games next week before jumping into conference play on Monday, 11/25. Keep it rolling boys!!
Girls basketball's strong season wrapped up Thursday, 11/14. On an exciting note - our 8th grade team beat Orion on Wednesday, 11/13 and earned the title of 8th Grade Girls Basketball Prairieland Conference Champions!! This is the first outright conference title for a girls team in over a decade, so great job girls!
Postseason play will begin this weekend. 7th Grade begins Regionals as the #2 seed in their bracket and will play West Prairie on Saturday, 11/16 at 2:15 pm at Illini West High School in Carthage. The 8th Grade IESA Regional will begin next Saturday, 11/23 - also at Illini West. Our 8th grade team is seeded in the #4 slot and will play West Prairie at 1:00 pm next Saturday. Good luck to both teams and congratulations on great regular seasons!
KJHS Staff Shout Outs
This year, we want to provide an opportunity to recognize the positive things that our wonderful KJHS staff members have been doing. Each week, a Staff Shout Out Google Form will be shared out. If you feel drawn to recognize a teacher, paraprofessional, custodian, cafeteria staff member, administrator, secretary, etc., please feel free to fill out the quick form. It does have the option to remain anonymous if you choose. You will find it attached here: KJHS Staff Shout Outs.
7th/8th Grade STEM Class
Our STEM students created quotes utilizing the Cricut machines in the classroom. They cut out the letters/words and have placed them on the walls around the school, displaying positive messages for students, staff, and visitors to see.
Counseling Updates
Hard to believe but November is halfway gone! We had a wide spread of Character Strong topics circulating the building these past few weeks focusing on responsibility for 5th graders, battling test anxiety for 6th graders, developing character habits for 7th graders, and envisioning the future for 8th graders. Hopefully, students are starting to see the benefits of our focused SEL curriculum the way that we, as staff, know how beneficial it is to teach them these skills.
November is a month full of "no school" days, so academic check-ins will be happening more frequently to keep our students on track as we inch closer to the end of the 1st semester. Please reach out if you need assistance getting into Alma to keep up with your students' academic progress.
Bridgeway update - Today (Friday, November 15) is Ms. Weinberg's last day at KJHS, as she will be leaving to pursue another career opportunity. Bridgeway is working to fill this position as soon as possible. As soon as a candidate is hired, we will provide more information. In the meantime, if you have questions or need additional assistance, please reach out to Mrs. Ingle.
Character Strong
Our District-Wide Social-Emotional program, Character Strong, is an evidence-based, multi-tiered solution designed to support whole child success. This program is integrated into Advisory classes, helping build a sense of community while developing essential life skills.
The aim of education is to prepare young people for success in all areas of life, including academic growth, college and career readiness, and overall life satisfaction. To achieve these goals, Character Strong focuses on three foundational outcomes:
A Sense of Belonging: Fostering an environment where every student feels valued and connected.
Improved Well-Being: Enhancing students' emotional health and resilience.
Increased Engagement: Encouraging active participation and investment in their learning and growth. By addressing these key areas, Character Strong helps lay the groundwork for students' long-term success and fulfillment.
