Falcon Flyer
Week of 12/16/24-12/20/24
Principal's Messaage
Dear Falcon Families,
As we approach the winter break, we want to thank you for your continued support and partnership this school year. Here are a few updates and reminders:
🎨 VAPA Winter Showcase:
A big thank you to everyone who attended our 4th-6th grade Winter VAPA Showcase! Our students did a fantastic job presenting their talents in visual and performing arts. The showcase for primary grades will take place in February—stay tuned for details!
📉 Attendance Update:
Last week, our attendance dropped to the lowest point of the school year at 91.36%. While we understand that illness can affect attendance, regular attendance is essential for student success. Our highest attendance so far was 98.65% during the first week of school—let’s work together to reach those levels again!
📚 Winter Reading Challenge:
Encourage your child to participate in our Winter Reading Challenge! It’s a fun way to keep their minds active over the break and develop a love for reading. Details about the challenge are coming home with students. I've also included the PDF below. Completed challenges will earn students a special reward in January!
Wishing you all a safe and joyful winter break filled with family, laughter, and rest. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Tuesday, January 14, 2025!

Attendance
Attendance Matters
Congratulations to Ms. Fonzi's 6th grade class for having the highest average-98.40%!
Schoolwide our average decreased from 93.58% to 91.36%. Regular attendance is the foundation for academic success. Together we soar!
The Learning Pit
Continue to ask your child daily: Did you get into the Learning Pit? At Otay, we encourage students to use a growth mindset to face challenges, have a go at something new, try with a willingness to be confused or make mistakes along the way, and to persist in problem solving.

Friendly Reminders
Together we soar! #Partnership
- For safety reasons, students must wear flat, close-toed shoes
- Every minute of instruction counts. If your child forgets snack, lunch, or water, do not worry. Second Chance and lunch will be provided. They also have access to water fountains. We kindly ask that you refrain from dropping off any items. Let’s work together to help our falcons build responsibility.
- Please note that if your child is not picked up on time at dismissal, you'll need to sign them out from the office.
