SPRING 2024
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
Over the last few months, we have been busy at Meadow celebrating the power of reading during PARP, promoting kindness during P.S. I Love You Day, encouraging community with Valentineβs for Vets, practicing what it means to be an inclusive community with our Black History Month assembly.
Our students have also been engaged in amazing learning opportunities to practice their inquiry skills and critical thinking skills. Our kindergarteners had an amazing time on their Tree Tapping Leaving to Learn excursion, where they learned all about the process of making syrup.
In alignment with Baldwin 2035, Meadow continues to develop and nurture civic-minded students who are compassionate, caring, problem solving students who embrace diversity and differences. To this end, as a community we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day, and Autism Acceptance Month with culminating activities that included our Sensory Carnival, a visit from the Henry Viscardi School, and our 1st annual Multicultural Night.
I am truly grateful and appreciative of all the parents and staff involved in providing our students with so many awesome experiences that they will treasure for a lifetime. Meadow continues to be a great place of learning because of the great teachers, staff, families, parents, and PTA.
I look forward to sharing more during our May and June edition.
Please check out the upcoming events and ways to get involved on the Dates to Remember page.
PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) 2024π― π π
Meadow kicked off PARP with a "Wild about Reading" kick off parade on March 1st. Billy the Baby Bruin as well as PTA parents got our students very excited π
At the March PTA meeting, parents and reading teachers, Ms. Gagliardi, Ms. Wiener, Ms. Peters and Ms. Antoniello read to our students while their parents could attend the PTA meeting.
P.S. I LOVE YOU π
Ms. Burke and Ms. Occhino led students in K/1, 2/3 and 4/5 through the meaning of the "P.S. I Love You" Day and demonstrate ways to be kind. Ms. Simal and Student Council planned the P.S. I Love You" week with kindness and various learning activities.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH π΄ π’ π‘
Ms. Oden, along with many dedicated staff, organized a Black History Month assembly, as well as create a diverse library for teachers to introduce to their students each week. Many classes participated in the assembly to celebrate Black History. Students also shared a "The More You Know" facts each day during the morning announcements with principal, Dr. Martin.
Valentine's for Vets π
Our Student Council officers, along with our 8:1:1 life skills classes, delivered the Valentine's for Vets. These special greetings will be sent to soldiers both here and abroad. These greetings mean so much to our soldiers and our students always enjoy taking part in this special activity.
World Down Syndrome Day 3.21 𧦠π π
Every year on March 21, people around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of D S chromosomes actually look like mismatched socks!
Autism Acceptance Month β¨
Meadow celebrated Autism Acceptance Month in April through various spirit days and events! Ms. Krieger, Ms. Said, Ms. deGonzague, Ms. Odigie and the rest of the Autism Acceptance Committee organized these events as a building wide way to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month:
