MCAS Testing
This Thursday, March 27, we will officially begin the "MCAS Testing Season" at HMS, when our grade eight students participate in the ELA assessments.
During this time we ask that you keep the following things in mind . . .
- Get a good night's sleep.
- Eat a healthy breakfast.
- Arrive on time.
- Make sure your Chromebook is charged and working.
- Avoid unnecessary absences.
- Don't stress!
We would also like to remind students and families that MCAS does not stand for "More Candy And Snacks"! We have noticed in recent years that on MCAS days, students often arrive with bags of hard candies and enough food to feed a whole class! Please only bring with you what you would on a typical day. The extra food and candy becomes disruptive on testing days.
Thank you!
Matilda News
A reminder that MATILDA has an All-Cast and All-Crew Tech Rehearsal on Wednesday 3/26, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm! (Grade 6 need only attend 5:00 - 6:00 pm).
More info for these students can be found on our next Callboard!
Meet Our New School Resource Officer . . . Officer Sullivan!
We are very excited to announce that Officer Jeremiah Sullivan will be joining HMS next fall as our School Resource/D.A.R.E. Officer!
Please take a moment to read Officer Sullivan's introduction, in his own words.
"Good morning Hingham Middle School family. I would like to take a moment to introduce myself.
My name is Jeremiah Sullivan and I have been a police officer in the town of Hingham for
almost seventeen years. The experience as a law enforcement officer has given me a front row
seat to the greatest show on earth.
As a Hingham police officer, I have been involved in; training new officers in a field training role,
inspecting and installing car seats as a child passenger safety technician, maintaining safe
roadways as a member of the Traffic Division, engaging the community as co-director of the
Citizen’s Police Academy, a member of the Honor Guard, served as the patrolman’s union
president, a firearms licensing officer and now a school resource officer.
Having grown up in the town, I’ve formed many friendships and bonds with community members
allowing an enhanced level of policing and service. I have always placed an emphasis on giving
back through community service and have worked with the Hingham Interfaith food pantry, the
Hingham Veterans’ Council and the St Paul’s ministry.
I am excited for the opportunity to work cohesively with the school administration to provide a
safe, positive and fruitful learning environment for the students."
Please join me in welcoming Officer Sullivan!
The Barracudas created their own comics based on their favorite chapters from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, using visual storytelling to bring the story to life. Through creative illustrations, they captured the key events and themes of their chosen chapter in an engaging and artistic way.
The Adventure Club flipped for Nova Trampoline Park!
We hope you can join us for our next adventure!
It's Good To Be "Out Of The Loop"!
As a reminder, our bus loop needs to be kept clear of all vehicles during arrivals and dismissals.
Students getting a ride home should meet their rides on the sidewalk nearest the main parking lot.

Trivial Pursuits
Do you know . . .
. . . What part of the cell creates energy?
. . . Who the Bruins played their last game against?
. . . What 15% of 300 is?
. . . What the root "ami" means?
If so, you would have done well at this year's Grade Seven Trivia Bowls! Pirates, Great White Sharks, and Barracudas matched wits to see who would emerge as the Champions of Trivia on each team.
The only thing more impressive than the students' wealth of knowledge was the creativity in costumes!
