Welcome to Tiger Talk! This newsletter is intended to keep our community informed of important information and upcoming events in our school. Highlights of this month's issue includes preschool registration and new programs.

January 2024- Do You Have a Minute?

Open Enrollment - Preschool Expansion for 2023-2024

We are excited to inform all township residents that enrollment is now open for our tuition-free preschool program. This expansion provides a significant opportunity for early childhood education for children aged three for the 2023-2024 school year. It is important to note that, unfortunately, there are no available spaces in the program for four-year-olds for the 2023-24 school year.


Program Details:

  • Start Date: April 8, 2024
  • Program Hours: 8:45 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Transportation: Available for all students in the program These additional seats will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage families to act quickly, as we anticipate these spaces will fill rapidly.


Key Registration Information


  • Open Registration: Effective immediately for the 2023-2024 school year
  • Allocation Method: First-come, first-served basis for each age group
  • Guaranteed Spot for 2024-2025: Enrollment this year guarantees a spot for the next academic year.

Great Kindness Challenge Initiative

Union Township Elementary participated in the Great Kindness Challenge, with the goal to attain the Kindness Certification. The Great Kindness Challenge, developed by Kids for Peace, is an initiative that aims to create a more compassionate and respectful school environment. By engaging students in a week-long series of kind acts, it promotes positive behavior and fosters a culture of kindness in schools. UTES recently celebrated kindness week with a series of spirit events and activities aimed at fostering this initiative.

DREAMS Program Implementation

Union Township Schools are actively participating in the DREAMS program using the Nurtured Heart Approach. The Nurtured Heart Approach emphasizes enhancing a child's inherent qualities through four key components:


  1. Absolute No, setting clear boundaries for negative behaviors;
  2. Absolute Yes, celebrating positive behaviors to boost self-esteem;
  3. Relentless Positivity, maintaining an optimistic attitude; and
  4. Energetic Relationship, building a deep, empathetic connection with the child.

This approach, beneficial in various settings, helps children realize their potential and fosters a positive school culture. Additional insights into the Nurtured Heart Approach can be found in the principal’s weekly newsletter.

Linking with Leadership Series

Due to recent disruptions in our school's schedule, including closures and delays, the 'Linking with Leadership' meeting scheduled for January was postponed. January's topic will be included at the March Linking with Leadership Session set for March 26th.

Meetings are open to the public and formal action may/will be taken at all meetings. The Board reserves the right to go into Closed Executive Session during any/all of the above meetings.
