Mass Reflections from Wednesday, March 26th
In Deuteronomy, Moses reminded us that we should trust the word of the Lord and we should remember what we have seen. This is stated because we should always remember what has happened to make us who we are today, and how it changes the way we act. We all have people or moments that will stay with us forever like a teacher that encouraged your passion or a friend who was with you in your darkest times. We should remember them as we remember the Lord is with us, for with that knowledge we can live our lives knowing we are safe and loved.
Alanna, 6th grade
Today in mass, Father Glenn asked people what they did for Spring Break and one of the things he asked was if anyone went to mass. He said he was happy that people went to mass because there is mass every single day except Good Friday. In the Gospel of Mathhew it says, “Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven." To me this means that if you follow God's laws and love him, you will live with him forever in heaven.

Church Season Lent
Lent is a 40-day period dedicated to prayer, fasting, and giving to those in need. It starts on Ash Wednesday and concludes at sundown on Holy Thursday. This season is a time of preparation for celebrating Christ's Resurrection at Easter.
During Lent, we deepen our relationship with God through prayer by reading Sacred Scripture, extend charity by giving alms, and practice self-restraint through fasting. Lent invites us not only to give up luxuries but also to undergo a genuine transformation of heart as we strive to follow Christ's path more closely. We reflect on our baptism, when we were united with Christ's death, freed from sin, and began a new life in Him.
While abstaining from meat on Fridays is a well-known Lenten tradition, we are also encouraged to practice self-discipline and fast in other meaningful ways. Reflecting on the roots and purpose of Lenten fasting can deepen our understanding of this practice.
Additionally, giving alms is an important way to share God's blessings—not just through monetary contributions, but by offering our time and talents. As St. John Chrysostom reminds us: “Not to enable the poor to share in our goods is to steal from them and deprive them of life. The goods we possess are not ours, but theirs.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2446).
During Lent, the baptized are encouraged to renew their commitment to Christ, while those preparing for baptism through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults engage in a time of learning and reflection as they journey toward becoming members of the Catholic Church.
This Sunday's Gospel from Luke 15:1-3,11-32 Fourth Sunday of Lent
but the Pharisees and scribes began to complain, saying,
“This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”
So to them Jesus addressed this parable:
“A man had two sons, and the younger son said to his father,
‘Father give me the share of your estate that should come to me.’
So the father divided the property between them.
After a few days, the younger son collected all his belongings
and set off to a distant country
where he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation.
When he had freely spent everything,
a severe famine struck that country,
and he found himself in dire need.
So he hired himself out to one of the local citizens
who sent him to his farm to tend the swine.
And he longed to eat his fill of the pods on which the swine fed,
but nobody gave him any.
Coming to his senses he thought,
‘How many of my father’s hired workers
have more than enough food to eat,
but here am I, dying from hunger.
I shall get up and go to my father and I shall say to him,
“Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
I no longer deserve to be called your son;
treat me as you would treat one of your hired workers.”’
So he got up and went back to his father.
While he was still a long way off,
his father caught sight of him, and was filled with compassion.
He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.
His son said to him,
‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you;
I no longer deserve to be called your son.’
But his father ordered his servants,
‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him;
put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
Take the fattened calf and slaughter it.
Then let us celebrate with a feast,
because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again;
he was lost, and has been found.’
Then the celebration began.
Now the older son had been out in the field
and, on his way back, as he neared the house,
he heard the sound of music and dancing.
He called one of the servants and asked what this might mean.
The servant said to him,
‘Your brother has returned
and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf
because he has him back safe and sound.’
He became angry,
and when he refused to enter the house,
his father came out and pleaded with him.
He said to his father in reply,
‘Look, all these years I served you
and not once did I disobey your orders;
yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends.
But when your son returns
who swallowed up your property with prostitutes,
for him you slaughter the fattened calf.’
He said to him,
‘My son, you are here with me always;
everything I have is yours.
But now we must celebrate and rejoice,
because your brother was dead and has come to life again;
he was lost and has been found.'"
Box Top Goal
Our next Box Top goal is $600. Remember all you need to do is scan your receipts to help us reach this goal and all students will earn another dress down day.
