Longfellow Elementary
Summer 2023
Greetings Longfellow Families ~
It doesn’t seem possible that we are once again approaching another summer. Hopefully your summer will be filled with numerous activities and family time! Our Longfellow Staff want to thank you for all your support and partnerships in education. Teamwork is truly the best approach to help our children succeed, and we couldn’t do it without you!
Just a reminder that you will receive a letter from your 2023-2024 teacher sometime in the first two weeks of August. Our Longfellow Open House will be held on August 9, from 5:00-6:00 pm, with our first school day on August 16, 2023. If you have not registered your child/ren for the 2023-2024 school year, please do so immediately. Please remember, as mentioned in last month’s newsletter, that your child’s den will remain the same for grades 2-5, so if you haven’t turned in your fall input form and wish to do so, please do so before the office closes. The office will be open through June 9 and then will close for the summer. The office will reopen Wednesday, August 2nd at 7:30 am.
Have an awesome summer!
Mrs. Heckenlaible
Please register your student for the next school year. This is VERY important as it give you the opportunity to update your address or any other family information. If you have forgotten your user name or password, please call 605-995-7606 and our registrar will help.
Girls On The Run
This spring, girls from all around the Mitchell School District completed their Girls On The Run final run. They brought in over $100 to donate to the cancer center and made cards for patients. GOTR is about so much more than running. It's about believing in yourself, pushing yourself further, encouraging others, and giving back when and how you can.
Internet Safety Award Winners
Mrs. Krell teaches internet safety as part of her guidance cirriculum. Our students take the Safe Online Surfing test and, for the 3rd year in a row, Longfellow was honored with an award from the FBI for our high test scores!!! Congratulations to Mrs. Krell and all of our lions on this very exciting recognition. We are so proud of you!
From L to R: Jolynn Petersen, Mrs. Krell, Ashton Heth (scored 100% for the past 2 years), Mrs. Heckenlaible, Rebecca King. Ms. Petersen and Ms. King are from the division of FBI and work in South Dakota.

Lunch Menu
Lunch With Kindergarten
Our Begindergareners typically get out of school at 11:45 AM but they spent the entire day in school, joinging Mrs. Heckenlaible's kindergarten classroom to get a peek at what next year will be like. They joined for circle time, recesses, and even lunch!
