Kasper's Notes
So...what was that summer weather? Crazy, but Awesome!
The week leading up to the Literacy Parade was busy! Students were working on their projects about their favorite character from a book. I chose the cow in Click, Clack, Moo - Cows That Type. Mrs. Hilton chose A Bad Case of Stripes, and the K team (and Mrs. Trefry) chose the book The Day the Crayons Quit! There were so many amazing books represented in the parade! Mary Poppins, Harry, Hermione, and Hagrid, The Pigeon, Curious George, Pippi Longstocking, Pete the Cat, Dogman, Miss Frizzle, Rock/Paper/Scissors, Waldo, Flat Stanley, Ramona, Sam I Am, every character in the Laura Numeroff books and so many more, were proudly marching in the Mayo Literacy Parade!
I was truly impressed with the sense of community and the wonderful promotion of reading. Here is an interesting article on the importance of reading for pleasure. Let's keep this going!
Three things I learned this week: Yellow is Mr. D's color, Ken really can roller blade, and Mayo has the best families around!
Reminder: Half school day for students this Wednesday (11/1).
Kindly,

Nurse's Office
Learning Time Lost
Mayo students visited the nurse's office almost 500 times in the month of September alone. Almost 300 of these visits were by "repeat" visitors. (This does not include any student with scheduled visits).
Also noteworthy, only 8% of these visits resulted in a student going home.
496 Visit = 5,689 Minutes in the month of September = 94.8 hours
Our goal is for kids to be in the classroom learning! Thank you for your support!

KINDNESS
This week we will have our first CTBN Celebration for the month of October. Several students exemplified the meaning of RESPECT! They were nominated by adults throughout the building and will be acknowledged at our Respect Celebration. We will also be introducing the next monthly topic: KINDNESS!
