24 - 25 Parent Newsletter - Issue #23
Hello Golden Bear Families,
We are thrilled to announce that TVHS has made the statewide Honor Roll List! This recognition is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our amazing teachers and students. We are so proud of this achievement and excited to share it with you. You can read more about this honor further down in the newsletter.
In addition to this great news, this week across TVUSD campuses is the "Great Kindness Challenge." We encourage all our students to engage in acts of kindness, not just this week, but throughout the year. It’s a wonderful opportunity to promote positivity and strengthen our school community.
Last week, we had the privilege of celebrating over 800 students who earned a spot on the Principal's Honor Roll for achieving a 4.0 GPA during the Fall Semester. I was truly honored to recognize these exceptional students for their academic accomplishments, which reflect their grit, commitment, and personal growth. What continues to impress me is that many of these students are also involved in extracurricular activities such as clubs, athletics, CTE, VAPA, AVID, ASB, and community service—demonstrating a strong balance of academic excellence and leadership. These students are wonderful examples of the Golden Bear attributes we hold dear: Brave, Engaged, Aware, Resilient, and Service-Minded.
This week, we’re excited to host "Lunch with a Bear," the Academic Fair, and the Talent Show! Be sure to check out our calendar of events for all the details, and we hope to see you there to support our amazing students.
On the athletic front, we had several exciting events last week, and there are more to come this week. We encourage you to come out and support our student-athletes as they continue to showcase their athleticism and competitive spirit!
Our Regenerative Agriculture students were also busy this past Saturday, working hard to install irrigation lines on the hill. Their efforts are transforming the space, and it’s inspiring to see their dedication in action!
In the TVUSD Spotlight, our Superintendent Dr. Gary Woods highlighted our annual "Battle For The Belt" wrestling competition. He, along with Trustee Dr. Komrosky, visited our campus last week to observe our CTE classes and to celebrate the Honor Roll students. We appreciate their visit and are always excited to showcase the incredible learning and activities happening at TVHS.
If your student received an iPad over the past two weeks, please be sure to review the section in the newsletter regarding insurance for the device. It's an important step to ensure that your student’s device is protected.
Finally, we invite you to join us for our 3rd English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) meeting and student celebration on Thursday, February 6th. This is a great opportunity to provide input on programs and services for our English learners and to stay informed on how we are supporting all students.
There are also many counseling events and activities coming up in the next few weeks, so be sure to check our calendar of events for all the details.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events!
Go Bears!

Lunar New Year
The Lunar New Year, often called the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year is a cherished holiday celebrated by millions worldwide. The historic Chinese calendar is a lunisolar calendar, which means dates are determined by both the moon (lunar) and the sun (solar). Months begin with every new moon, when the moon is not visible in the night sky. The year starts on the new moon nearest the midpoint between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, sometime between January 21st and February 20th. China officially adopted the Gregorian calendar, used by the West in 1912 and in the late 20th century the holiday was reintroduced as the “Spring Festival.” The Lunar New Year marks a fresh start and a time for reflection, family, and traditions. In 2025, the Lunar New Year begins on Wednesday, January 29th, ushering in the Year of the Snake according to the Chinese zodiac.
The Snake is a symbol of wisdom, intuition, and transformation. Those born in the Year of the Snake are often seen as thoughtful, elegant, and resourceful individuals. This year represents an opportunity to embrace new beginnings and navigate challenges with grace and insight.
Key Themes of the Lunar New Year:
§ Family and Connection: Families gather to share meals, exchange gifts, and celebrate their bond. Traditional foods like dumplings, rice cakes, and tangerines symbolize prosperity and togetherness.
§ Reflection and Renewal: The New Year is a time to leave behind the past and set intentions for personal growth and success in the coming year.
§ Cultural Traditions: Customs like lion dances, fireworks, and red decorations bring joy and symbolize good luck, wealth, and protection from negative energy.
At Temecula Valley Unified School District, we value the diversity of our community and embrace the opportunity to learn about and celebrate global traditions. Click on the link below to learn about the Riverside Lunar Festival: Riverside Lunar Festival Jan. 25-26.

Temecula Valley High School- Safety Plan Review Meeting
January, 21, 2025
Dear Parent,
Each school in the state of California is mandated to annually review and update a Comprehensive School Safety Plan. The plan provides the school with the opportunity to bring together a Safe School Planning Committee to focus on site safety issues. Annual goals, objectives, and activities are developed, shared with the staff and community for input, and brought forward to the School Site Council for approval.
California Education Code requires that a meeting be held to allow members of the public the opportunity to express an opinion about this plan. Added to this requirement is the provision that each School Site Council or Safe School Planning Committee provide notification of this public meeting to the local mayor or supervisor, a representative of the local school employee organizations, a representative of the parent and teacher association, and a representative of the student body government. The notification information for our Comprehensive Safe School Plan public meeting is included below.
Our staff, students, and parents are committed to working together to ensure that our school has a positive, safe, and secure environment for learning. We appreciate the support that law enforcement continually provides to Temecula Valley Unified School District and our school to assist us in this effort.
Sincerely,
John Harney
