ANNOUNCEMENTS
My family and I will be attending Adoration 9-10pm on Friday, November 22nd. The Blackburns will be present 7-8pm. All SNYM Youth & Teens are welcome and invited to join us at either time. - Mrs. Beth
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament has been a pious custom in the Church since time immemorial, and the custom of having at least two persons present at all times has been the rule.
Perpetual adoration occurs when parishioners, religious orders and communities, and other interested people arrange their visits to Church in an organized way. Typically, two or more people, taking turns, spend an hour, in prayer and silence, before the Blessed Sacrament. The hours of the day or night are so divided that adoration is considered perpetual or extended over a period of time.
Why is it required to have two people present? Safety!
To ensure a safe and secure environment for the adorers while at the same time insuring that the Most Blessed Sacrament exposed in the monstrance is not left unattended.
Why should we not leave the Most Blessed Sacrament in the monstrance unattended?
First, out of courtesy, and second for safety, because — while in the monstrance — the Eucharist is vulnerable.
Use the link below (or the QR code on the image above) to sign-up for Adoration at the time that is most convenient for you and your family on November 22 or 23.
NOVENA TO CHRIST THE KING BEGINS THIS FRIDAY, NOV. 15
The Church celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King on November 24, 2024. For the nine days preceding the Solemnity, let us offer our prayers to Christ the King for the freedom of the Church with a Novena to Christ the King.
Novenas offer us an opportunity to purposely dedicate some time each day to prayer, communally or individually, to remember that we are called to be consistent and persistent in prayer.
The word novena derives from the Latin word for nine (novem), and it refers to nine days of private or public devotion and prayer; the days can be consecutive or spread over weeks/ months but usually on specific days. Novenas usually consist of a novena-specific prayer that is repeated every day, some type of litany or petition/response prayer, often a brief scripture passage, and sometimes with a hymn or canticle.
To pray the Novena to Christ the King, begin on Friday, November 15 and pray each day until completion on Saturday, November 23.
Use the links below for a printable of the novena prayers and intentions or they can be viewed on the USCCB website.
FIRST FRIDAY
FRIDAY, NOV. 8TH
Last week we had 24 Youth & Teens come together for another fun FIRST FRIDAY!
We began by sharing dinner together in the Social Hall. We reviewed that the month of November is dedicated to Remembering and Honoring the Dead. We discussed how to earn Plenary Indulgences for the Poor Souls in Purgatory and together we prayed for them.
For our service project, we kept the theme of the departed but with a twist... while none of those we were remembering have died, they are no longer physically with us or present in our parish.
The Youth & Teens divided into four groups. Each group chose a Flat Stanley (a poster sized image) to take photos with throughout the church. All of the groups got very creative, remembering and praying for some of our most favorite people who we miss dearly; Father Dominik, Father Welcome, Deacon Ron & Mrs. Betsy, and our HSYG buddy Olin! Each will receive a care package of the Flat Stanleys, photos & videos, and notes from the Youth & Teens, so that they can know that they are remembered and prayed for often by all of us in SNYM!
Then they came back to the Youth Room and had a blast viewing their photos & videos! Then they all agreed they would like to end their evening with free time in the Youth Room. See video below.
It was another awesome Friday night with our church filled with the love and laughter of our Youth and Teens!
Special thanks to Mrs. Shannon & Mr. Rob for joining us!
EDGE - MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP
RECAP FOR NOV 10
Unfortunately, the copy machine didn't want to behave for Mrs. Beth, so we had a delayed start. We opened in prayer and began Part 1 of Lesson 2 about the Early World. Once we had our copies thanks to Josh & Ms. Heather, we completed a worksheet. See slides below.
We continued with our lesson learning more about the Creation story in Genesis. The Youth then found and read scripture passages as groups and explained them to all of us. See video below.
Because we had a late start, we were unable to finish with any games or other activities, but it was still a great morning in EDGE!
Thanks to Miss Karissa for her continued assistance in EDGE!
COMING UP ON NOV 17
The Youth will attend Adoration and finish Lesson 2 of Encounter with Part 2 of the Early World.
HSYG - HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GROUP
RECAP FOR NOV 10
Fr. Aiden was very willing to accommodate when I let him know that quite a few Teens had asked if they could have Confession available for HSYG. We had so many receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation that even with beginning before 4pm, we still did not have everyone present to begin HSYG until almost 5pm!
So, we basically had Free Time for the first hour, visiting, playing games, and enjoying another feast that included Mummy Hot Dogs and Chocolate Chip Scones from Connor! See video below.
Once we had everyone present, we opened in prayer and began Part 1 of Lesson 2. Based on what was covered for the Early World, the topics were not new to the Teens, but they sparked discussion based on their new perspectives and expanded knowledge. See slides below.
Due to our late start, we were unable to finish with any games or other activities, but it was a blessed time together.
Many thanks to Shannon & Rob Blackburn for blessing us with their ongoing assistance in HSYG!
COMING UP ON NOV 17
The Teens will have time with the Blessed Sacrament and finish Lesson 2 of Venture with Part 2 of the Early World.
