Hello Parent/Guardian,
Como Park Senior High School is excited to announce the release of a new feature for your Parent Portal! The Parent Absence Request tool is being piloted at a few schools in the district and we will be opening it for use. Soon, you’ll have the ability to submit a request that informs the school office in advance when your child is not going to be in school directly from the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Examples include:
Child wakes up sick
Child has a doctor appointment
Child will miss school because of a family event
These requests are processed by the office staff and an attendance record is created on the student’s attendance record.

Staff Spotlight
New courses offered! Somali I and Somali for Somali Speakers
My name is Abdullahi Mohamed and I teach Somali Language at Como Senior.
Before joining Como staff, I taught ESL classes at Fridley Middle school for 2 school years. And even before that, for 20 years, I was teaching ESL ( English as Second Language ) at Sanford Middle School which comes under Minneapolis Public Schools.
I like to travel around the world. When at home , I spend my time reading , baking and cooking.
I speak Somali, Arabic, English and French languages.
After working all my past teaching years in middle school and as this is my first year teaching in a high school, I am really impressed with the maturity and responsibility of most of the Como students.
Great Things Happening at Como
Students in band got to hear a professional brass quintet perform from the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music! They played quality brass repertoire and gave students the chance to ask questions, think critically and discuss musicianship. Como band and orchestra students are eligible for FREE private lessons from a professional on their instrument through SPCM! Those interested can let Ms. Miller know and fill out the registration form from their website: https://thespcm.org/music-across-mn
Ms. Hartzell and student council put on a Pie a staff Fundraiser. For $1, students voted on who they would like to see pied in the face with whipped cream. The following top earners were pied during seminar: Dr. Brown (principal), Carlos (support staff), Tim (security liaison), Ms. Pin (teacher), and Mr. Erickson (teacher). A fun Friday with good sportsmanship and lots of laughs. Click here for pics and video. 😊 🥧

3DE Field Trip to St. Paul City Hall with Ramsey County
3DE is a program to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. This is accomplished through focusing on the skills and competencies students will need to be successful during and after high school across content areas. We also focus on connecting students with local and national business partners who can help support students in their growth of these skills and competencies using real world business situations and challenges.
185 freshmen attended the event at St. Paul City Hall. For this case we asked students to come up with a solution to the question: Which non-profit should Ramsey County collaborate with to build their talent pipeline? All students presented a solution in class and then our top 4 groups presented to Ramsey County employees. Our winning group was: Molly Zbacnik, Nijia Wheeler and Lilly Werner.
Here is a link to the slides detailing all of the students who received awards and recognition. 3DE Case 9.2 Winners
On November 1st the Como Park Senior HOSA-Future Medical Professionals students attended the Fall Leadership Conference in Brooklyn Park, MN. Students were exposed to a variety of healthcare careers and attended workshops on surgery, nursing skills, behavioral health, chemical health, and trauma response. Membership in the Como Park HOSA club is open to any students interested in pursuing a career in medicine.
The Como Park HOSA-Future Medical Professionals Club created over 100 friendship bracelets as a fundraiser to celebrate World Kindness Day. November 13th is recognized as World Kindness Day, a day where we are encouraged to practice acts of kindness. Students were able to purchase friendship bracelets along with candy and a card, and have this gift delivered to a friend on November 13th as an act of kindness. HOSA members created beautiful bracelets and were able to raise $200 to use towards the State Leadership Conference and Competition in St. Cloud, March 30th-April 1st, 2025.
Honor. Courage. Commitment. Let's be proud of our LE1/New Cadet Unarmed Color Guard Team led again by injured Cadet Lance Corporal Adam William. Despite the pain, he again wanted it and honorably led his team at the local Richfield, Minnesota VFW Marine Corps Birthday Ball Celebration for vets. Wow, all four of you were magnificent. Como Park MCJROTC cadets also received a generous donation from the North Star Marine Veteran organization in collaboration with the Eden Prairie High School Students for the annual 9/11 Cookie and Lemonade Stand held on 9/11/2024. Again, Happy Birthday all past, present, and future Marines! - 🤠
Motivating cadet "PT" challenged the best of our Delta Dawgs. Wood 🪵 PT was a real hoot. Ooh Rah! Pictured is our Delta Dawgs.
Cadets perfecting their craft on Saturday at what we call 99. Drill team practices start at 08:00 and end at 14:00. With five more competitions on our schedule yet. Teamwork make the dream work. Semper fi!
Cyber Patriot Round # 2 Competition. This past Saturday our CPSHS MCJROTC Cyber Patriot Team cadets participated in the second round of this year’s competition. Cyber Patriots is a program designed to develop future cyber security workers. During today’s competition, the team identified and rectified security mis-configurations in Windows 11, Linux and Windows Server machines. Great job cadets!

Sextortion: What Parents Should Know
The average screen time for a teen in the U.S. is between 7 and 8.5 hours per day. Often times parents do not know what their student is sharing through text or social media. For resources and more information on how offenders take advantage of teens and what you can do, click here.
