October Champions of the Charter
October's Champions of the Charter were recently chosen by the staff at Central School. This month, these students went above and beyond to practice and help others to feel POSITIVE, SAFE, RESPECTED, and CALM here at Central School. The champions will be recognized at the board meeting on November 19th. We are very proud of the great example they set for their fellow students. Congratulations to: Nora A., Summer A., Maya B., Leon D., Raeliegh F., Addison H., Jenna L., Paislee L., Jace L., Nicco M., Grace R., Addisyn S., Hadlee T., Charlotte W., Noah W.
Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser
Central will be having a fundraiser at the Peru Buffalo Wild Wings on November 9th. Central will get a percentage of the sales on that day. Here is what you need to do...mention to your server that you are there for the fundraiser for Central Intermediate School. That's it! You can dine in, or call in an order for carry out. We would not get a percentage of the sales on any online orders or deliveries. Get some wings and earn a little money for Central!
A Little Kindness Goes a Long Way!
Students from 6th grade house 2 asked to sit with Mrs. Hodgson's class one day at lunch. Since then, popularity has grown and many students have become good role models and friends to their peers. We love the kindness our students show!
Central and Shepherd PTO Holiday Greenery Sale
The Central and Shepherd PTO is hosting a holiday greenery sale through Garden's Gate and Floret Plants and Provisions. Below is the link to place an order. Once you have placed an order, Garden's Gate will put your order together and you will be notified via email when your order is ready for pickup. Items can be picked up at Floret Plants and Provisions at 610 E. Court Street in Ottawa.
Central Cyclone Challenge
On September 21, Central School had a "Red Out" day to show our school spirit, and to crown a Cyclone Challenge Champion. Sixth grade house 1 was the winner of the challenge with 81% of the students and staff participating! We can't wait to see which house wins the next challenge!
News From 6 House 1
The school year is flying by down here in 61. The students are settling in with expectations and starting to pick up some momentum. For continued success, please check planners daily to help make sure that work is getting completed. Students should also be practicing their math facts daily by getting their greenlight. All of the other things we do in math: fractions, ratios, area, et al. become MUCH easier if they have mastered their facts. It is also a wonderful idea to set aside 20 - 30 minutes for reading each night. This helps build fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.
Besides the schoolwork, we have been having fun down here with the Cyclone Challenges. Winning the first with our awesome "Red Out!" Now we are busy collecting coins for The United Way. So, if you have any spare change, please send it our way. It is a great way to give back to the community. And it's a nice way to thank The United Way because that's how we got Poppy.
Other big news from our House is that Mrs. Damyen had her baby! All of the kids had fun guessing the length and weight of the baby. Maeve arrived on October 23. She was 20 in. long and weighed in at 8 lbs. 4 oz. Congratulations to her family from her Central family.
Perfect Attendance for October
In October, we had 172 students that had perfect attendance! Students will receive a perfect attendance badge on their locker and are highlighted on a school bulletin board. Students that receive perfect attendance each month will be entered into a drawing for prizes, and will be able to help their class earn class rewards. Having great attendance is very beneficial to the success of our students. Congratulations to all of our students with perfect attendance!
Scholastic Book Fair
Recently, we hosted a Scholastic Book Fair. We had almost $5000 in in sales! Our librarian, Ms. Moreno, said that means we will get $2500 back to go towards the purchase of new books for our library! It's always exciting to get books for our students!
Mrs. Fields Fundraiser
A big thank you to everyone that participated in our Mrs. Fields fundraiser! Our students and families were excellent sales people! Dakota B. was our top seller with $672 in total sales! Items will be delivered before Thanksgiving. When that date has been set, we will communicate with families. Thank you to everyone that supports our students!
Reminders
- This school year, students have access to free lunch and breakfast, however, if a student wants an additional milk, the cost is 50 cents. Students wanting "Lotsa Lunch" will need to pay an additional $1.25 each time they want to order "Lotsa". Students that do not have money in their account will not be able to order "Lotsa Lunch".
- As it begins to get colder, please remember that we do not have supervision for students before 7:50 AM, and students are not brought into the building until 8:00.
