February 2025

From the Principals' Desk
Hello Wayland Middle School Families!
February is a busy and exciting month at Wayland Union Middle School! As we move further into the second trimester, we continue to focus on academic growth, character development, and fostering a strong school community.
With colder weather still upon us, please remind students to dress appropriately for their opportunity to get fresh air after eating their lunch as well as arrival/dismissal. Additionally, we encourage families to check in with students about their progress and reach out to teachers or staff with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your continued support in making WUMS a great place for students to learn and grow!
Respectfully,
Rachel Cimek

What is Kindness?
Kindness is the ability and willingness to express care and compassion for others. Kindness is a choice to use our time, talent, and resources to better the lives of others and the world through genuine acts of love, compassion, generosity, and service.
Why focus on Kindness?
Kindness boosts positive emotions. Acts of kindness create neural pathways that enhance feelings of well-being and the natural flow of feel-good endorphins and neurotransmitters.
Kindness is self-replicating. When we perform an act of kindness, it is likely to encourage others to act in a similar way.
Kindness reduces stress and anxiety. Kindness promotes positive relationships with other people. Anything that helps you to build bonds with other people helps decrease anxiety.
Clayful
This week’s journal, The Secret to getting it all done, (In Time), helps students take control of their time by learning how to make a schedule — and actually stick to it!
When responsibilities pile up, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and put things off. This journal gives students practical tools to stay organized, manage their workload, and feel confident about getting everything done on time.
Coaching is available Monday - Friday 8am - 10pm. Download the Clayful app or go to chatwithclayful.com.
February is Black History Month!
MHA is highlighting Black and African American contributions to the mental health movement because they are oftentimes overlooked. Without recognizing the lack of representation of Black and African American people in the mental health movement, we do a disservice and continue to inflict harm. This is a non-exhaustive list of Black and African American mental health resources.
