Dear Families of Sherwood Heights Elementary,

We sincerely appreciate your partnership in your child’s education. Your support, encouragement, and collaboration help create a positive and enriching learning environment for all our students. It truly takes a team effort, and we are grateful to have such a wonderful community working together for student success.

As we navigate this winter season, we want to remind everyone to take care and stay healthy. With many illnesses going around, please prioritize rest, hydration, and wellness for your family.

Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school year, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.

Please remember to always call the office when your child is going to be absent from school.

Excusable Absences from School (per Auburn School Department Policy): A person’s absence from school is excused when the absence is for one of the following reasons:

A. Personal illness,

B. An appointment with a health professional that must be made during the regular school day;

C. Observance of a recognized religious holiday when the observance is required during the regular

school day,

D. A family emergency or hospitalization,

E. A planned absence for personal or educational purpose which has been approved;

When a child has 7 unexcused absences we are required by Maine law to schedule a truancy meeting in an effort to create an attendance improvement plan.

Come join the FREE family fun on Thursday February 13th, 6 -7pm! Bring the whole family to Love Bug Bingo! This is always such a "sweet" event!

Doors open at 5:45 so games can start promptly at 6pm.
