Welcome Back to School
August 2024
Greetings Blair students and families,
I am so excited to be the acting principal as we kick off the 2024-2025 school year together. My first official day is Thursday, August 15th. I recently retired from MCPS after completing 30 years, most recently as the principal of Damascus High School. My wife is also a principal in MCPS and our three children are all MCPS graduates. I’m honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to work with you this year, and I look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday, August 26th.

Athletics
Blazer Community,
Happy summer and welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! And welcome to the class of 2028! Blair Athletics is up and running with the preparations for tryouts which start on August 14 th for most sports (see below). We are looking forward to another successful year in Blazer Athletics and Blair High School with all its outstanding students and staff.
The outside projects at Blair have been finalizing throughout the spring and summer. Currently the back fields have been renovated and are being finished with lights! The back softball field has been completed with ADA access. The track field is complete, and the lights have been utilized for about 6 months now. Equipment for the fields is on its way. These upgrades will be wonderful for our entire Blair community!
There are three sports seasons in MCPS. Blair offers every sport possible in the county and we are very proud of our teams and coaches for the work that they do with our kids and our community. The sports seasons start in August for fall, November for winter and March for spring. Informational meetings are approximately 6 weeks before the season starts, and online registration opens about one month before the season starts. Information for fall sports was sent to the Blair community in mid-July.
Fall sports are starting on or about August 14th. Fall sports include boys soccer, girls soccer, football, field hockey, girls flag football (starts August 15 th ), girls volleyball, golf (has a different schedule), cheer, poms, cross country and pickleball (starts after school starts). We are very excited to add pickleball as a full varsity sport and girls flag football as a pilot varsity sport! Those teams are set with coaches and are planning their seasons. For all information for fall athletics: Registration and Fall Athletics Information. The Blair Athletics staff have been preparing during the summer for the 460+ students who ultimately will be registered for participation on one of the teams!
The schedule for all Blair teams and games across the entire county can be found at County Sports Zone. All schedules will be up on the Blair Athletics website towards August 6.
The Blair Blazers Athletics website has lots of information for all things Athletics and will be updated as we go through the school year and receive updates. The Blair Boosters is a voluntary parent group that supports our Athletics program in incredible ways, and we are always looking for additional parent support. Please visit the Blair Boosters website for more information.
If you should ever have questions, concerns or comments, please reach out to Athletic Director/Specialist Rita J. Boulé at Rita_J_Boule@mcpsmd.org. Stay safe and healthy! Let’s Go Blazers!
Back to School Materials
At Montgomery Blair High School, every student will receive a free student plan book. On the first day of school, students should bring a notebook, Chromebook with charger, pen, and pencil. Ninth graders and new students will receive their Chromebooks during the first week of school. Teachers will inform students of additional supplies as needed for their classes.
If your teen needs assistance with school supplies, please contact Faye Nabavian, Parent Community Coordinator, at Farzaneh_Nabavian@mcpsmd.org.
Chromebook Distribution and Responsibility
9th-grade students and all students who are new to Blair will be assigned Chromebooks during the first week of school. They will receive their Chromebooks at the same time that they have their student ID pictures taken (between Tuesday, August 27 and Friday, August 30).
Each student is financially responsible for damage caused or loss of any Chromebook and charger that is checked out to the student. The device is loaned to the student to be used for instructional purposes only and in accordance with MCPS Regulation IGT-RA, User Responsibilities for Computer Systems, Electronic Information, and Network Security. No cost is associated for a student to borrow, possess, or use an MCPS Chromebook. A family is only financially responsible when there is avoidable damage to the device. If the device is faulty, there is no charge to the family; however, if the damage is considered avoidable or the device or charger is lost, the family will be charged according to MCPS current parts and replacement costs.
Seniors will depart from MBHS after the first block for Smokey Glen Farm in Gaithersburg for a day of fun, food, and unity. They will return before 2:30PM. Seniors attending the trip are excused from Edison, internships, and school for the time we are together.

There is information for every grade level! Ms. Delos Reyes, our College and Career Information Coordinator, also has exciting updates and information about upcoming programming! So, check out the CCIC newsletter to save some dates!
Emergency Drills

We will have several different Emergency drills during the first week of classes (Monday, August 26 - Friday, August 30). These Emergency drills include a Fire Evacuation Drill, a Shelter In Place Drill, a Lockdown drill, and a Severe Weather Drill. Blair and MCPS want students and staff to be as prepared as possible in the event of an emergency situation. Parent Community Coordinator & Kindness Corner
My name is Farzaneh Nabavian, Parent Community Coordinator (PCC) at MBHS.
I can help build and strengthen positive relationships with families and work collaboratively with school leaders, staff, and community organizations to develop and implement family engagement activities. I support families by guiding them through the school system, helping to build their ability to advocate for their student’s academic success, especially those who may be facing language, cultural or economic barriers. To inform, educate and increase skills of parents and guardians-empower them to advocate for their students and their success.
Please visit my website for additional information and useful links:https://blairpcc.weebly.com/
I work collaboratively with the school administration, staff, counseling department, our Pupil Personnel worker (PPW)-Ms. Clark, our social worker, Ms. Callaghan and the Wellness Center staff at MBHS.
One of the unique resources at MBHS is the KINDNESS CORNER, which I created 5 years ago with the support of Ms. Johnson (now retired principal), MBHS staff, MBHS PTSA and the community to provide on hand items such as clothing, supplies, shelf food, prom attire, shoes and more for ALL of our students. We are so grateful for all the contributions we have received to support the work of the kindness corner in our school community and to continue the mission of the Kindness Corner! We plan to continue a quarterly Freebie Friday event during lunch and once scheduled, it will be announced for ALL students at Blair to come and take items for FREE!
If you have any questions or know of anyone at Blair HS that may benefit from PCC and/or Kindness Corner, please share my information.
Please contact me at: Farzaneh_nabavian@mcpsmd.org call or text at: Cell: (240) 506-8576

Student Identification Card Expectation
Each year we evaluate safety and security protocols to ensure the safety of staff and students.
In accordance with the Board of Education approved resolution that requires students to use student identification at Montgomery County Public School locations, beginning this year students at Montgomery Blair High School will wear their student identification cards while in the building. Students will need their identification card to enter the building and to display during the school day and at school events. Students will receive a new free identification card on their assigned picture day the week of August 26-30.
After picture week, beginning Tuesday, September 3, 2024 students will need their identification card to enter the school building and must wear their student identification throughout the day, while in the school building and on school grounds.
Please assist school personnel by ensuring your student is ready for school including them having their Montgomery Blair High School identification card. This is a reminder that the first block begins at 7:45 a.m., the building will open at 7:00 a.m. to begin receiving students so they have plenty of time to make it to their class on time. If your student is a car rider please allocate enough time for your student to enter through the three identification check points (SAC/Cafeteria, Main Entrance and Colesville Rd), no other entry points will be used for entry.
Student Pictures
Students will have their ID pictures taken beginning on Monday, August 26 thru Thursday, August 29, with retakes scheduled in October. All pictures will be facilitated through their English classes. Detailed information – including dates for additional senior photo days – will be updated on the website by the end of August.
Students or parents who have questions regarding pictures can contact Andrew Fields at Andrew_S_Fields@mcpsmd.org.

Dropping your Teen off at School?
Over 3600 students and staff arrive at our school daily. We need everyone to drive safely on campus and follow our traffic patterns. Please see the diagram below which reflects the traffic pattern for student drop-off on the Colesville Road side of the building. Our security staff are positioned outside to help direct traffic.
Everyone must obey traffic laws.
