From the Counseling Office
For Families of 8th Grade Students
This week at school, your child received their Academic Information Form (AIF). The form gives students their course suggestions based on district placement guidelines to help as a starting point for making the best choices. Please review this with your child before next week, and help them prepare any questions to ask their high school counselor on Tuesday/Thursday.
On Tuesday, February 27, students will have High School Orientation at Beveridge with a high school counselor to learn about classes for 9th grade. The orientation will take place during 1/2 Block (8:12-8:56). Please arrive to school on time on Tuesday, Feb. 27! Make sure to review and sign the paperwork your child brings home on this day.
In the morning on Thursday, February 29, students will meet one-on-one with their high school counselors to submit their class choices for 9th grade. Make sure your child brings back the paperwork received from Tuesday. Students will receive a pass for their individually scheduled time to meet during Advisory that morning. There will be a make-up meeting day scheduled later for any students absent.
You should have received the High School Placement Letters by US Mail. If you have any questions about your child's high school placement, please contact the Student Placement office at 531-299-0302 or studentplacement@ops.org.
Science Olympiad Competition
From Mr. Elder and Mrs. Kloke

Sebastian Tipton and Layton Feeney placed 2nd out of 15 middle schools in the Reach for the Starts competition. Norah Dollinger and Evan Donnelly placed 6th in the Disease Detectives competition. Also participating were Hannah Caddell and Zach Parrot. The team did really well overall. Next, they will compete at the State Science Olympiad competition at UNL on April 27th.
There are a few openings on the team still. Any 6th-8th grade student can join the team. If you are interested in science and want to compete, let Mr. Elder or Mrs. Kloke know and we will talk to you.

Congratulations Boys Swim Team
From Coach Becker and Coach Aguilar
Congratulations to the Beveridge Boys swim team. We are halfway through the season, and we only have 1 meet before City Finals. The coaches continue to see a ton of effort from the boys and the improved times prove their efforts. Again, we coaches expect the boys to get better each and every time they swim. With Finals coming up, some of the boys are swimming events they are new to or not totally comfortable with, but that does not stop them. The boys are constantly working to improve their starts and nail their turns. I hope all of the boys are enjoying themselves and are seeing the improvements. The team comprises of:
Colin Achelpohl
Charles Borchert
Alex Bradley
Chase Buckley
Brody Busing
I.L.

The wrestling team went against Bluestem on Wednesday and won with a score of 61-6. There were a lot of open weights due to Bluestem only having 7th grade wrestlers. On A team, we won 5 out of 6 matches. Those winning individuals were:
A Team Wrestlers with a win:
William Lehl
Diagio Jackson
Ridwane Moudachirou
George Whitbeck
Ali Hajyasin
Lachlan Miller
B Team Wrestlers with a win:
Zayvion Butler
Braxton Suing
Tarek Baydoun

Aaron Soto
Wrestlers of the Week:
Haid'n Bartunek:
Haid'n has been a trooper this season. She has never given up even when it looked like she wouldn't be able to wrestle. She finally got her first match against Bluestem and battled extremely hard. She is a very resilient person and athlete and will have a bright future. Keep up the hard work Haid'n!
Lachlan Miller:
Lachlan is a beast on the mat. This is Lachlan's first year wrestling and he has enjoyed great success. Lachlan's current record is 6-3 and he is getting better every day. He is also a great person off the mat and makes everyone around him smile. Keep it up Lachlan!
From the Girls Basketball Coach: Ms. Arnold
In their quarterfinal match up, the Varsity Bulldogs fought through a physical game to beat
Morton 38-30. They pulled away after a close first half. Mya Tatum shined in this game, posting a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Geo Tchuehchoua and P.T. were also huge contributors in the win. Overall, the girls as a team never backed down and worked together to come out on top. They now play Tuesday in the semi-final of the city championship.
The Junior Varisity Bulldogs ended their season Tuesday with a big win at Norris. This team has noticeably improved on both sides on the game, and it shows in their record. The girls ended their season with an impressive record of 5-2!!
Beveridge Season 3 Sports Schedules
8th Grade Parents: Save the Date - 8th Grade Honors Ceremony

Omaha Public School Inclement Weather Procedures
Our district works proactively to make the best decision possible when winter weather or emergencies require us to adjust our regular learning routines.
Our toolkit of alternatives includes the following options:
- Remote Learning Day
- School Closure (no remote learning, schools are closed and district offices remain open)
- District Closure (no remote learning, schools and district offices are closed)
- Late Start (two-hour delay)
- Early Release (two-hour early dismissal)
On a Remote Learning Day, teachers will contact students through email or Teams with independent learning activities by 8:30 a.m. Teachers will have virtual office hours from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. if students and families have questions or wish to visit with the teacher about their academic progress. Attendance will not be taken on Inclement Weather Remote Learning Days.
Whenever possible, our district will announce changes to a daily routine the night before. However, we know weather conditions and other emergencies can develop rapidly and a decision the morning of a school day may be necessary. When that happens, we will communicate as early as possible in the morning.
We will follow our communication routines. If weather, power outages or other circumstances force a change to our normal day, we will communicate directly with all staff and families. That communication will be through email, text message and phone call. Families should ensure their contact information is current in Infinite Campus. We will also share the information on our website and through local media.
This information can be found at: Weather Procedures / Weather Procedures (ops.org)
Accessing Parent Portal
This application allows parents and guardians to access information about ALL of their students through one convenient website.
This is a great way for you to see what assignments your student has turned in and what assignments they haven't turned in yet. You will also be able to see the specific grade your student earned for the assignment once the teacher has entered the grade for it. Please click on the attachment below for directions on accessing the Parent Portal. If you need any support with this, please contact our front office staff at 531-299-2280.
Partnering with the school and accessing the Parent Portal for your middle school student is important. Helping your student manage their time and their schoolwork is invaluable. Supporting your student with managing 9 classes, will be of great benefit as they transition to high school with excellent study habits and homework completion.
OPS Student Safety and Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
Omaha Public Schools Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
At Beveridge, safety is always our top priority. Our district has planned and prepared in case of an emergency. Just as a family may practice sheltering for severe weather at home, we teach students and staff across our district how to respond in a range of situations. Since August 2018, Omaha Public Schools has used the Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The SRP benefits students, staff and first responders because everyone uses the same language and definitions. The five options in the Standard Response Protocol are:
- Hold
- Secure
- Lockdown
- Evacuate
- Shelter Inside
Inside Beveridge, you will see posters that include the same information. At Beveridge, students routinely participate in drills or different possible emergencies. Students learn how to react, where to assemble and what to expect were it a real situation. We encourage families to review these procedures at home with their students. It may also be a good time to discuss safety plans at home. In case of a true emergency, is important that children memorize their address and phone numbers. In an emergency during school, communication will be sent out to families. Families should follow the instructions sent via email and automated phone call. In an emergency, we ask that families not call or visit the school until asked to do so.
During an emergency, staff will be focused on student safety and may not be available to answer phones or direct traffic. Access in and near a school may be blocked for emergency personnel.
