Nominate Your Teacher Today!
Do you remember a time when a certain teacher went out of their way to help you achieve something extraordinary? How about when you were completely at a loss as to handling a situation, and a staff member took the time to walk you through it? Is there a certain teacher or staff member who stands out in your mind as truly unmatched? We would love for you to nominate them for a 2025 Douglas County Apple Award! You can nominate more than one teacher or staff member. Videos makes great nominations too!
The Foundation for Douglas County Schools is proud to honor exceptional educators and staff who are inspiring a love of learning in students and are trailblazing extraordinary innovation in our schools.
iLove High School Girls Conference
We are excited to announce the return of our iLove girls’ conference! Originally started over a decade ago by a group of teachers, this overnight, lock-in-style event fosters community and connection among high school girls. The theme for this year, "A Moment in Time," focuses on empowering students by reminding them that challenges are temporary and can be faced with patience and strength. The event will include team-building activities, workshops, reflection, and plenty of fun.
Event Details:
Dates: November 15-16, 2024
Location: SVA Library
Time: 6:00 p.m. (pick up by 8:10 a.m. the next morning)

Everyone Can Vote On This!
Are you sick of hearing about the election!?
What if we can all come together for an election that isn't about humans!? Well, we have the election for you: an election for America's Favorite Calf! Vote here.
Mrs. Siewart's class "adopted" a cow for their class over the summer. The calf's name is Clarabelle, and we would love for her to be America's Favorite Calf. Please help us, help Clarabelle win!
Athletics
Senior Shout Out!
Senior Lydia Slocum is on the varsity softball team for Highlands Ranch HS, and her senior night was on Wednesday, October 9th, against ThunderRidge HS. It was quite a memorable night indeed, as Lydia went 3 for 4, including the game-winning 3 RUN HOMERUN, as Highlands Ranch won 10-0. Lydia finished her senior year batting .377 with 26 hits, 24 RBIs, and 7 home runs! Congratulations, Lydia, on such an amazing season.
Cross Country
Middle School Cross Country: The MS State Cross Country Meet is this Saturday at Fehringer Ranch Park. Good luck to all of our runners; we are all cheering for you!
High School Cross Country: The high school cross Country team has regionals this Thursday at Lyons High School. Good luck to all of our runners; we are supporting you every step of the way!
Soccer
Middle School Soccer:A team had their playoffs the week before break, and what a couple of games it was. The A team powered their way to an amazing win over Aspen View Academy in the semi-finals in what was a very scrappy and hard-fought game. 8th grader Ashton De Lisa was in the action of everything on offense, and it seemed he was in the center of it whenever there was a threat on offense. The championship game was the next day against North Star Academy, who had beaten us earlier in the season. 8th graders Shepherd Eloe and Alex Eschmann helped lead the way on offense and defense, especially since Eloe took away North Star’s best player. It was an incredible season, with back-to-back championships for Coach Wilhoite! Congratulations to our incredible players and coaches who put in so much time and effort this season!
High School Soccer:The Varsity team had an away game on Tuesday, October 8th, against Denver Academy, winning 2-0. Sophomore Moe Estacio and Markus Lloyd each scored a goal, which propelled the team to a strong win. The Varsity team, however, lost an away game to Dawson HS that following Thursday. The Varsity boys soccer team has one final game this Thursday(10/24) against Jefferson HS. This will be senior night, and we will honor three seniors; please be there by 4 pm to watch the senior festivities. The JV game will start around 5:30 pm.
Golf
Our HS Boys Golf season concluded on October 8th as four golfers competed in the state tournament. Junior Tucker Corazzari, Senior Ryan Carr, Senior Landon Webb, and Senior Josh Reeves battled at the two-day tournament at Rolling Hills Golf Club in Golden. Eighty three golfers competed in the 2A state tournament, with Josh Reeves finishing in 9th place, Landon Webb finishing in 16th, Ryan Carr finishing in 57th, and Tucker Corazzari finishing in 66th. The team finished in 7th out of 39 teams. Josh Reeves also received 1st team all-state honors, and Landon Webb received 2nd team all-state honors. This was a truly special season for this program, and the Hawks community is beyond proud of what this program accomplished this season! Great job to all of our golfers and all of our coaches; thank you for all of your incredible work this season!

Volleyball
High School Volleyball:Unfortunately, the Varsity Volleyball team lost to Clear Creek HS on Monday, October 7th, in four sets. However, the JV team defeated Clear Creek HS excitingly and dominantly, winning in two sets. Junior Daphne Baumgartner and sophomore Lyla Kostiuk were the focal points of the offense for these two sets; Lyla was setting beautifully, and Daphne was killing everything! Unfortunately, the C team lost in two sets. All three levels unfortunately lost on the road to Heritage Christian on Thursday, October 10th. The Varsity team has a home game this Tuesday, October 22nd, at 6 pm against Sheridan HS, while the C team plays at 5 pm against Kent Denver. All three levels then play on Thursday, October 24th. This game is also senior night, and we will honor five seniors before the game. Please arrive around 6 pm for senior festivities. Good luck this week!
ESports
After several decisive victories in the first game against Dexter HS, SVA was primed and ready to take on Eldorado. After a tough first two losses, a glimmer of hope came through with Zangief, played by AJ, but it wasn't enough in Game 4 to keep the drive alive. SVA will be back on Tuesday, the 8th, for Week 3. We saw a MUCH different Overwatch team this week. SVA became a cohesive unit, securing several rounds and pulling a winning game. Unfortunately, they dropped the Series, but a vast improvement with some great plays from ALL the players that go around. Some CLOSE games for SkyView and lots of good things happening as we find ourselves with some new players looking to gel together. I saw some great glimpses of team play and command of the pitch but came up against a Cherry Creek team that was ready to PLAY last Thursday.
Basketball
Middle School Basketball: The MS Boys Basketball tryout process is complete, and the teams are set. Thank you to everyone who came out; we had over 60 players try out. Unfortunately, we cannot keep all of them, but it is a very encouraging sign to see how many students continue to be interested in MS Athletics! The first game for all three levels will be home on Monday, November 4th.
Change of Date for Basketball Interest Meeting
We will be holding a student interest meeting for HS Boys and Girls Basketball to determine the number of athletes we have for each team. This will be located in Mr. Humphrey’s computer lab on Thursday, October 24th (THIS IS A CHANGE from the last email). Girls will be from 2:00 to 2:20, and Boys will be from 2:30 to 2:50.
