Mission Statement
At Amidon-Bowen Elementary School, students will be accepted, appreciated, nurtured, and challenged according to their individual needs. Through their education at school, students will gain the skills, strategies, and desire necessary for continued learning. They will also develop a strong sense of responsibility for themselves and toward each other, their community, and the Earth's resources.
At Amidon-Bowen Elementary School, staff will use various sources of data to drive instruction and promote individual growth. We will foster collaboration among adults in service of our students. We will align resources to support our students and their needs; foster their unique identities, and create and sustain a responsive, inclusive, diverse, safe, and welcoming school community.
Message from the Leadership Team
Hello Families!
Next week we will celebrate spirit week! Below is a flier with the themes for each Spirit Day. A few reminders about Halloween next week. We are excited for students to be able to dress up but make sure that student adheres to the costume expectations. We do not allow scary or violent costumes, any weapons, props, or masks, and students must be able to independently get into and out of the costume.
We hope that all the students enjoy trick or treating (if you go as a family), but please be reminded that students should leave their candy at home to enjoy. In order to protect students with allergies and the learning environment, students will not be allowed to have candy on site. The team will collect any candy at school and return it at the end of the day.
We are also in the season where the weather changes drastically from morning to afternoon, so please make sure you are sending your child with proper attire and having discussions with them about your expectation on when they should be wearing them.
Respectfully,
Leadership Team
Key Reminders
The Essentials
Volunteering/Field Trip Chaperone - In order to volunteer on campus at events or to chaperone a field trip, all individuals need to be cleared by DCPS. Please consider getting cleared now because the process does take some time, and we are not allowed to send chaperones on trips without completed clearances (there are no exceptions here). Directions on the process can be found here. If you have an active clearance, please email the clearance letter to Ms. Green (kirstin.green@k12.dc.gov) and Principal Jackson (bruce.jackson2@k12.dc.gov) so we can ensure our records are up-to-date.
Vision to Learn - Our partnership with Vision to Learn has returned to complete the vision testing for those students who failed the screener that was conducted. If you do not want your child to be tested or if you have any questions, please reach our to Ms. Green at kirstin.green@k12.dc.gov.
Breakfast/Lunch Menu - Interested in what's for Breakfast or Lunch? Here is a link to the menu for October!
Parent Communications - This year, Amidon-Bowen is using the Remind App as our primary parent to school communication tool. If you need assistance getting started, please email Ms. Green at Kirstin.Green@k12.dc.gov.
