November 2024 Highlights
Hello Trojan Families!
Welcome to November! It's hard to believe we are over a quarter of the way through the year already. It's been a wonderful fall with our students and we loved seeing many of you during conferences last month.
FALL TITLE I MEETING:
I would like to invite you to our annual fall Title I Meeting. Based on parent feedback from our in person meeting formats in the past, we are going to try to hold this meeting virtually this time around. Please see the information below.
Each year our school holds a meeting with families to let you know about our Title I Program. At this meeting parents also have the opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions on our program and our parental involvement plans. We will be holding that meeting virtually this year and will be providing a recorded video so that you can watch it at another time if you are unable to attend.
Please join us this year for our annual meeting on November 20th at 11:00 a.m. (link below) or watch this short video. This virtual meeting or video gives some background information on Title I and discusses important documents that we ask you to review.

FALL NWEA ASSESSMENTS:
Our Kindergarten through 10th grade students took our NWEA Map test this fall. This test will be given three times per year to help our students and teachers set goals and monitor progress. Last year our district goal was to improve the percentage of students who meet or exceeded their growth score (a growth score measures a year's worth of learning for a year's worth of time)by at least 5% and we not only met that, but beat it by far!! 🙂 Congratulations to to our students and staff for all their hard work on this accomplishment. In addition, we saw gains in achievement with more students approaching, exceeding or arriving on grade level. This year we will continue our goal with hopes of improving again by another 5% or more. To learn more check out the NWEA Family Toolkit at https://www.nwea.org/family-toolkit/.
ADDITIONAL STUDENT SUPPORT AND EXTENSIONS:
We are also excited about the many opportunities we have this year to help students reach and surpass these goals through our "WIN' and "Switch" times in which we meet students where they are for additional help or extension. We are blessed with amazing teachers and staff members who go above and beyond to provide these valuable experiences for our students.
We have many other things to share with you so see below for more Homer Highlights!

CALENDAR NOTE: Updated Sports Schedules can be found on the Homer Schools Athletic page.
With the award of an English Learner (EL) grant, we were able to create a new section of our library. To start, we focused on Spanish texts with titles based on feedback we received from EL students in the county. Special thanks to Andrea McCardell for her time to organize and get these books ready to go for our students. We hope to continue to build this overtime so that our EL students as well as our foreign exchange students can have the opportunity to read for enjoyment in their native language.
