Look What's Happening in Kindergarten
Kindergarteners had an exciting month of environmental science exploration as they learned about solar eclipses and Earth Day. In addition to reading and crafts about these topics, students spent time outdoors learning how to take care of the earth in the school's pollinator garden!
We also showed our school spirit as spectators and participants in the school Castle Ball game. Thank you to all who sent in donations to help with our field day fun!

Look What's Happening in Third Grade
This month, Third Grade students had the amazing opportunity to visit the Torrington Historical Society located in downtown Torrington. This field trip was preceded by an in-house visit by Torrington Historical Society’s Susan Weston, who came to Torringford to educate third graders on the incredible history of Torrington.
At the Torrington Historical Society, students were guided through the permanent exhibit “No Place Like Home: The History of Torrington” to uncover Torrington’s story. Students got an up-close view of some of the different artifacts that were once vital to life in Torrington. Students particularly enjoyed seeing old images of Torrington and comparing them to what Torrington looks like today!
Third Graders were also provided a guided tour through the beautiful Hotchkiss-Flyer House Museum, and learned about what life was like before electricity, TV and appliances that we rely on daily like refrigerators. In addition, students engaged in a lesson all about the town’s history including important persons and places that once existed in Torrington.
If your student would like to take another look at Torrington’s history, visits are able to be scheduled through the Torrington History Society’s website.
Greetings from the ML Department
Our Multilingual Learners have been working hard all year on their English skills. While practicing reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication, students have explored a variety of topics. Some recent subjects covered include technology, folktales, holidays, communities, and history. Please remember it is important for students to continue practicing English over the summer. At the end of this update we have included links to resources and places that will help students maintain their English. As always, we encourage our families and students to continue reading in their native languages which ultimately helps students in their mastery of the English language.
LAS Links Scores
Students’ scores from the annual LAS Links assessment measuring English proficiency will be mailed home at the end of May.
Congratulations!
Our department would like to give a big shout-out to 3rd grade ML, Arantxa Cisneros-Garcia, for winning the CAPSS-LCSA Student Recognition Award for Torringford School. Arantxa is an outstanding student and an excellent role model for her peers.
