The Siegrist Star
Week of November 11, 2024
Special celebrations and learning experience this week at Siegrist
On Thursday, November 7, Siegrist Elementary students honored veterans and active-duty personnel in anticipation of Veterans Day. The 2nd graders sang to express gratitude for the service and sacrifices of veterans, active-duty members, fallen heroes, and their families. Their performance was outstanding and they had to sing again last night for their music concert. Thank you to the Student Lighthouse Team for greeting and escorting our Veterans to the assembly and to the Student Yearbook Team for helping capture this special day. We’re grateful to Mrs. Burnett, our dedicated music teacher, for all the hard work she put into these patriotic events.
To celebrate Veterans Day, MAJ Dice, Mrs. Dice’s husband who serves in the U.S. Army, gave a presentation to the 1st grade classes. Students learned about military service, food, and vehicles, and even got to try out some military-issued equipment!
Today, Congressman Graves, who is Dexter Miller’s grandson from Ms. Ditmars 2nd grade class, visited Siegrist Elementary to speak with 2nd grade students about the U.S. government. He explained the three branches of government, connecting to what students are learning in social studies, and answered their questions. A big thank you to Congressman Graves for sharing his time and knowledge with the students!
Siegrist students used our LEAD Day as an opportunity to learn about citizenship and then participated in a school-wide voting day. Siegrist Leaders were given three options for an upcoming spirit day. At our afternoon assembly last Friday, the results were revealed. Stuffie Day won!! Students brought to school their favorite Stuffie (stuffed animal) on Monday, November 4th. WIN WIN!
Thank you for helping make our fall book fair a success! With the proceeds, we will be purchasing books for the school library as well as classrooms. If your child has a remaining balance on their e-wallet, it will remain in their account and can be used at the next book fair. Thank you again for your support!

To secure a copy, make sure to place your order by March 21, 2025. If online purchasing isn’t an option for you, you can email itao.tracy@pcr3schools.org to request an envelope for a cash or check payment. Don’t miss out—there will be only a limited number of extra copies available after distribution!
No Crocs November
As Crocs are growing in popularity with our students, these shoes continue to be inappropriate footwear for PE class. Crocs (boots, sandals, slides) just are not safe to be wearing during the PE activities coaches have planned. So Siegrist is going for a NO CROCS in PE class during the month of November. Please make sure your children wear tennis shoes on their assigned PE days or put tennis shoes into their backpacks to change into before PE class. Classes that have 100% students wearing correct footwear..no boots, sandals, slides and especially CROCS will win prizes during November.
Thank you,
Coach Crawford and Coach Stapleton

With the app, you’ll get real-time updates and even bonus cash offers, so each receipt makes a difference. Thank you for supporting your school!
Winter Weather Planning
Please visit the Winter Weather Information page on the Parents Tab of the District website for information on recess and clothing considerations (there will be no outdoor recess when the wind chill is at 20 degrees or below), cancellations, two-hour delayed starts, how the District will notify families, and Y-Club info.
In the event of school cancellation or delayed start, PCR-3 will get that information out as early as possible through automated phone calls and text messages, the District website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, the District Hotline (816-858-2752), and local media. Parents: To opt in to receive texts, please text the word "YES" to 67587.
For the 2024-25 school year, PCR-3 will implement Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days for the first five canceled school days. These days will not need to be made up. Any additional canceled school days may be waived, or may need to be made up (added to the academic calendar). Click here for details on our Inclement Weather Virtual Learning Days.
Pull Together!
Dear Platte County Families,
It's time to "pull" together for a great cause! The Siegrist Student Lighthouse team is collecting pop tabs donations to support the Kansas City Ronald McDonald House. We invite you to collect aluminum tabs from any cans, place them in a ziplock bag, and send them to school with your child.
Our students will handle the rest!
We appreciate your support as we work towards our goal of collecting 100 pounds of pop tabs by the end of May. Let’s pull together and make a difference for families in need!
Thank you for your generosity!
PTA - We Need Your Help in the Siegrist Workroom!
First off, THANK YOU! We couldn’t make this program work without YOU!
One of the goals of PTA is to support our amazing teachers by helping with copying, printing, laminating, cutting, and assisting with projects. We’ve set up a simple process to make it easy for you to help:
- There will be a bin in the workroom where teachers will place their papers/projects with clear instructions on what they need and when they need it by.
- Once you’ve completed a project, please place the finished materials in the teacher’s mailbox.
If you’re available to volunteer, the Siegrist PTA has created a Sign-Up Genius for workroom help. We offer 3 slots per day, with options for both morning and afternoon shifts. You can choose to volunteer once or twice a week, or as your schedule allows—every little bit helps!
We truly appreciate your time and support. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at siegristelementarypta@gmail.com.
Thank you again for your dedication!

Friendly Parent Reminders
Visitors to the building: you will always need to bring your ID with you when you come into the building. We will scan your ID into our safety system Platte County uses to ensure the safety and security of our students.
Birthday Celebrations-Here is the district policy:
"We believe it is important for the school to recognize our students on their birthday and other special days. However, for several reasons including increased food allergies, preservation of the instructional day, and student equality, students are not allowed to bring treats from home or have flowers/balloons or other items delivered to the classroom for birthdays, going-away parties, or other personal events. Each classroom teacher will recognize the student in a special way to celebrate his or her birthday. (See Snacks for more information about opportunities to share snacks in the classroom) If a student receives a delivery at school, the student will be notified to come to the office to view the item. Parents will be responsible for transporting the item home. Birthday party invitations may only be distributed if invitations are given to every student in the class."
Transportation:
If your child has a transportation change for the day, please call the office before 2:00 PM. This ensures we can process the change in time before dismissal. You may also send a note with your child or email Anne Klopp at klopp.annemarie@pcr3schools.org.
If we do not receive a call, note, or email regarding transportation changes, we will follow the information already in our system to send your child home.
For any permanent transportation changes, please refer to the "Important Links" section below.
Additionally, please click on the "Transportation Expectations" button below to review important bus and car rider guidelines with your child.
Student Illness/Injury:
If you're unsure whether to send your child to school due to illness, please click the button below. Our nurse has provided important information on her Siegrist webpage about when to keep a sick child at home. There is also guidance on what happens if your child is injured while at school.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Heather Guzman at guzman.heather@pcr3schools.org.
