HEARING & VISION TESTING INFORMATION
Vision Screening
- Students in grades 1st, 3rd, 5th and any students referred by parents and staff will be screened on February 25th
- Screening is done by St. Clair Health Dept. technicians
- Students who already wear glasses are screened with their glasses on to determine if their prescription is still current
- Students are screened for visual acuity, muscle control and far sightedness. Any student who cannot pass the first screening is put on a rescreen list
- In 2-4 weeks, the technician will return to our school to rescreen students. If your child cannot pass the second screening, he/she is considered a referral. SCCHD technician will contact the parent and encourage them to seek an exam by an eye care professional
Hearing Screening
- Students in K, 2nd & 4th grades and students referred by parents and staff will be screened on February 26th
- The battery of hearing screening tests is administered by the St. Clair Health Dept. technicians
- Initial Screen - The child is presented with a series of sounds in both ears. If the child is unable to respond to any one or more of these sounds, he/she is put on a re-screen list
- Secondary Screen - In 2-4 weeks the, the technician will return to our school to rescreen students using a more intense hearing screening. If the child is unable to respond to any one or more of these sounds, he/she is then moved onto the next level of screening
- Threshold Screen - A threshold screening is a complete hearing screening designed to determine the exact level of a child's hearing. A child must be unable to pass all three hearing screening levels before they can be considered as having a hearing difficulty
- Parents of children who cannot pass the screening are contacted by SCCHD technician and encouraged to seek a medical evaluation
If your child is in a grade that is not scheduled for a particular screening and you would like him or her to be screened, just let his/her teacher know before the screening day.
COOLER TEMPERATURES
With colder weather on the way, we want to remind students and families to bring coats, hats, gloves and even snow pants and boots as we move into snowy weather. We want to make sure all our Bulldogs are prepared to go outside for recess!
