Goochland Reads 2025 Is Underway!

We hope you are enjoying our 2025 Goochland Reads book, A Boy Called Bat! This week we will finish the book when we read chapters 22-26. Follow the reading calendar (linked here), even if we have inclement weather. Students will answer trivia each day at school. We hope you enjoy reading!

Sign your child up to stay for the Goochland Reads after school event on Thursday, February 20 from 2:30-3:30! Forms are due by the 18th so we have time to purchase enough supplies.

Conundrum Day Rescheduled!

We experienced winter weather on the original date planned for Conundrum Day, so the event has been rescheduled!

New Date: February 22, 2025

Time: 8:45 AM to 11:30 AM

Location: Goochland Middle School

Join us for an exciting STEM Design Challenge inspired by the Goochland Reads books! Students in grades Pre-K to 8 will explore animal life and survival skills while sharpening their 21st-century skills in designing, planning, and creating!

Please note: Students must provide their own transportation.

Kids Heart Challenge Kick-off

This week our school had so much fun kicking off this year’s Kids Heart Challenge! Alongside this year’s heart heroes, we’re learning about healthy hearts and life lessons like getting active, asking for help, resting well and being kind. GCPS All-Star Week

Each year, All Star Week is a special time when we celebrate all GCPS staff members for their incredible contributions and the lasting impact they have on our students, families, and community. From teachers and bus drivers to school nurses, administrators, and support staff, every team member plays a vital role in making GCPS a great place to learn and grow!

Gifted Referral Window Open

The Gifted Referral Window is now open. Parents have until the end of February to refer their child for gifted evaluation. If they have any questions they can contact Megan Donovan (mdonovan@glnd.k12.va.us) or their teacher.

Goochland Restaurant Reading Incentive Program

The Goochland Restaurant feels passionate about encouraging reading throughout our community! They are sponsoring a reading incentive program that is similar to the BOOK-IT Program many adults loved once-upon-a-time! Goochland students will receive a bookmark to track their reading. Once students have read 8 books, then they can turn the completed bookmark into the Goochland Restaurant in exchange for a free drink AND their choice of fries, onion rings, or a cookie! The best part is that students are not limited to just one bookmark! They can complete multiple bookmarks!

BES Math Night - Coming in April!

BES will host a Family Math Night paired with the Spring Book Fair on 4/16 from 5PM-7PM (More details to come). Families, we need your help! Please sign up to help us make the night successful!

Helpful Links & Info

Please notify the office about transportation changes via email at beseagles@glnd.k12.va.us. If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. Please make sure you have all transportation changes in prior to 1:00 PM, this allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal. The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
